The west's rugs are older than its cars
The west is old rug country. Ashgrove, Bardon and The Gap run streets of pre-1946 timber homes, and the riverfront houses at Chelmer, Graceville and Sherwood hold wool and Persian rugs bought decades ago. Rugs in houses like these were made to be washed properly, and after 29 years we still do it by hand at our Yatala facility.
When the river gets in
The river writes its own chapter out here. Chelmer, Graceville, Oxley and Milton carry real flood history, and when water gets into a house the rugs are among the first things soaked. We will tell you honestly whether yours is worth the work, because the assessment comes before the quote and the quote comes before anything else. What we need from you is speed: off the wet floor, rolled, and booked.

Family rooms and acreage dust
Away from the river the work changes again. Kenmore, Chapel Hill and the Centenary suburbs are family homes with big living-area rugs, and the acreage from Brookfield out to Moggill adds horses, dogs and fine dust that grinds into the base of the pile where no vacuum reaches. An immersion wash resets all of it, pile and foundation together, and the rug comes home dry all the way through.
How the western run works
The Centenary and Logan motorways run straight to Yatala, 40 to 60 minutes from most of the west. The Lockyer towns from Gatton to Withcott are batched onto set days so the long leg stays efficient. Wherever the van stops, the routine holds: rolled rug collected at the door, washed by hand at the facility, delivered back fully dry with pickup and delivery free on the scheduled runs.

Stain Removal
Coffee in a Toowong study, beetroot at a Kenmore dinner, red mud walked in at Anstead. The fibre is identified, the dye is tested, and then the mark gets the treatment both can handle. You hear first if something will not fully lift.
Old rugs out west often carry old repairs and vegetable dyes, and both change what chemistry is safe. That is knowledge you only get from decades of handling these pieces, and it is why careful owners send their rugs to us.

Pet Stain and Odour
Acreage dogs at Pullenvale, school-run dogs at Chapel Hill, cats in St Lucia flats. When an accident reaches the rug foundation, sprays only rent the smell away. Our enzymes digest the source and the immersion wash removes it for good.
A rug that smells fine in July and sour in January still has the source in it, releasing with the humidity. Removing it takes enzymes plus a full wash, in that order. After that, warm weather has nothing left to find.

Odour Removal
Closed-up Queenslanders after a wet summer, rugs stored under western houses, winter fireplaces at Bardon. Smells settle deep into wool and wait. We remove them in the wash water itself, so the rug comes back smelling of nothing.
Under-house storage is the western classic: cool, dark and never quite dry, and the rug absorbs all of it. The full wash releases what the fibre holds, and controlled drying makes sure the smell has no way back.

Rug Spot Cleaning
One fresh mark does not always justify a full wash, and when it does not, we say so. Spot treatment handles contained surface spills at a smaller cost. If the inspection finds soak-through, we explain why the wash is the better spend.
The judgement call is free: we look, we tell you which treatment the rug actually needs, and the quote follows the finding. Nobody gets talked into a full wash a spot clean would have handled.

Rug Steam Cleaning
Rumpus rooms in the Centenary suburbs and rentals near UQ run tough synthetic rugs, and hot-water extraction suits them: heat, agitation and a deep sanitising rinse. Heritage and hand-knotted pieces never see the machine.
The construction decides the method. Latex-backed and machine-woven rugs are built for extraction; wool, silk and antique pieces are not, and they go to the immersion floor. We sort one from the other at inspection.

Rug Dry Cleaning
Viscose and delicate silk pieces from Indooroopilly apartments and renovated Milton homes are wrecked by wet cleaning. Our low-moisture process lifts the soil without shrinkage, watermarks or a stiffened pile.
If a label says silk but the price said bargain, it is probably viscose, and viscose forgives nothing wet. Do not test it at home. The fibre assessment tells us what it really is, and the rug gets the method that fits.

Water Damage Restoration
This is the flood group. Chelmer, Graceville, Oxley, Goodna and Karalee have all had water through houses in living memory, and we have washed the rugs that came out. Fast collection, rinse, sanitise, controlled drying. Speed decides what survives.
After a flood the insurance list is long and the rug drops down it. Move it up. A soaked rug reaching us inside days usually recovers; one found rolled in a garage a month later usually does not. We give you the verdict straight either way.

Mould Rug Cleaning
Mould finds western rugs two ways: floodwater and under-house damp. Either way the treatment is the same, spores killed in full immersion, staining lifted where dyes allow, and drying that leaves mould nothing to restart on.
The musty smell always comes before the visible spots, and it is the cheap stage to fix. If a room in a closed-up Queenslander smells of damp after summer, check the rug first. Caught early, most wash out completely.

Rug Moth Treatment
Heritage homes from Ashgrove to The Gap hold wool rugs that have not moved in years, and moths know it. We clear the eggs and larvae, wash the residue out of the pile, and tell you how to store wool so it stays safe.
The west's older homes send us some of the oldest rugs we treat, and moth damage on pieces like that gets expensive to repair. A treatment and wash before storage is the cheap insurance. Wrapped right, the rug outlasts the cupboard.

The Summit lookout is the standard first view of Brisbane, city to bay on a clear day, with a heritage-listed kiosk precinct behind it. Below, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha hold more than 200,000 plants and draw around 1.4 million visitors a year, alongside the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, opened in 1978.

Fig Tree Pocket, Kenmore and Chapel Hill are mid-loop on our western run, and homes here are exactly the family-plus-pets mix our odour and wool washes exist for.
Claude Reid opened Lone Pine in 1927 as a refuge for sick and injured koalas in the era of the koala fur trade, starting with two animals named Jack and Jill. The name comes from a single hoop pine planted by the site's first owners, and the 18-hectare sanctuary now keeps more than 130 koalas among roughly 80 Australian species.

St Lucia's professorial-belt homes and Taringa's flats both feed our western pickups; a campus this careful about craft sits well with a trade that still washes rugs by hand.
The Great Court's cloisters carry more than 1,200 carvings in Helidon freestone, telling Queensland's story in coats of arms, grotesques and native plants and animals, and the stone's mixed purples, creams and browns colour up after rain. The sandstone came from Helidon in the Lockyer Valley, which sits inside this same service group.
The 1936 river bridge with apartments inside its towers, the Southern Hemisphere's only inhabited bridge.
Our vans cross the river here regularly, linking the Indooroopilly side with Chelmer and Graceville on a single western loop.
Contractor Walter Taylor built the bridge in 1936 and the tollkeeper's family lived inside the Indooroopilly tower, with the bridge supervisor in the southern one. Three generations occupied the pylon apartment for over 70 years, until 2009. It remains the only habitable bridge in the Southern Hemisphere and still carries traffic between Indooroopilly and Chelmer.
Brisbane's first arboretum, opened in 1925 with an avenue of 72 Queensland kauris.
Sherwood, Graceville and Corinda are old wool-rug suburbs on our riverside loop, and after every wet season this stretch produces the water-damaged rugs we rescue.
The arboretum opened on World Forestry Day, 21 March 1925, with the planting of 72 Queensland kauri pines along Sir Matthew Nathan Avenue, named for the state governor. The 15-hectare riverside site was Brisbane's first dedicated collection for studying Australian native trees and is now heritage-listed.

Because it is a long leg, the valley towns are batched onto set days rather than dropped into a normal western route. That keeps the run efficient and it is the reason a Gatton or Laidley pickup is booked ahead rather than offered on the spot.
West of Ipswich the group keeps going into the Lockyer Valley, where Gatton, Laidley, Plainland, Grantham, Lowood, Helidon and Withcott sit along the Warrego Highway on the way up to the Toowoomba Range. It is genuine farming country rather than an outer suburb, and it is the longest leg on any western run at roughly 90 to 110 kilometres from our wash floor, an hour and ten minutes and up.

The dog had an accident on the good wool rug. Is it ruined?
Almost never, if it reaches us reasonably soon. Urine soaks into the foundation, so surface sprays only hide it for a while. Enzyme treatment digests the source and a full immersion wash removes it, and we tell you at inspection if the dyes have taken any damage.
Can you wash a big acreage rug?
Yes. Size is not the obstacle at a purpose-built wash floor the way it is in a lounge room. Brookfield and Moggill rugs come in carrying fine dust and animal traffic, and they leave clean, dry and groomed.
How does pickup work from the Lockyer towns?
The same as anywhere on the western run, with one difference: the valley leg is batched onto set days to keep the long drive efficient. Book through the form, the van comes out on the scheduled day, and the driver collects the rolled rug from your door. Delivery back is free too.
Is an old wool rug worth restoring after years of wear?
Often it is, and sometimes it is not. That is exactly what the assessment settles: we look at foundation, pile and dye condition and give you a straight answer with a firm quote, before anything is washed.
