A hill in a bend of the river
Mount Ommaney sits on a hill inside a bend of the Brisbane River, 15.8 kilometres by road south-west of the CBD. The hill rises to 82 metres, most homes sit on its slopes, and a forested section of the upper ground is protected from development by the council. It is one of the Centenary suburbs, it faces Pinjarra Hills across the water, and the 2021 census counted 2,503 residents. For a small population it produces an unusually high proportion of the good rugs we collect on this side of Brisbane, which has everything to do with when and how these houses were furnished.

McLeod Country Golf Club, founded here in 1968, is recorded as Australia's first golf club administered by women.

In February 1968, 163 women signed on as inaugural members of a new club on Mount Ommaney Creek, named for Gertrude Evelyn McLeod, a lifelong advocate for women's golf. It is recorded as the first golf club in Australia to give women members equal rights and one of few in the world administered entirely by women, though men have always played here too. Joan Fletcher, one of the state's leading golfers, struck the first ball in September 1969, and the full 18 holes were in play by September 1971.
The hill is recorded as named for J. M. Ommaney, a young settler who died here in 1856.

The name is recorded as honouring John Mansell Ommaney, a nephew of Dr Stephen Simpson, the district's Crown Lands Commissioner. In March 1856, aged twenty, Ommaney was thrown from his horse while riding in this district and died of his injuries, and the hill came to carry his name. The suburb that grew on its slopes a century later kept it, which is how a young man from the 1850s came to name one of Brisbane's most comfortable addresses.
Mount Ommaney's shopping centre opened in 1979 and has anchored the Centenary suburbs since.

How much does rug cleaning in Mount Ommaney cost?

Our Persian has never been professionally washed. Is that a problem?

Will washing take the patina off an old rug?
No. Patina lives in the dye and the fibre and is not going anywhere. What leaves is soil, which is the thing dulling the colour you were trying to protect. If any area is genuinely worn rather than dirty, that is pointed out at the assessment so there are no surprises when it comes home.
Is there a quicker option than about a week?

The dog has urinated on a rug we have had for forty years. Is it finished?

Aged dye can shift under urine, so if that has already happened you are shown exactly where before any decision.
