Prepare Your Rug for Pickup
General Preparation For All Rug Types
- Remove Debris
Give the rug a gentle shake or a light vacuum on a low-suction setting. This dislodges loose particles, pet hair, and grit that can get ground into the fibres during rolling and transport. Do not use a beater bar or high-powered vacuum, especially on delicate or fringed rugs.
- Rolling Direction
Always roll the rug with the pile facing inwards. For hand-knotted Persian or Oriental rugs, roll from the bottom end of the rug towards the top (the direction of the pile). This protects the delicate fibre tips from being crushed. If you’re unsure, feel the pile with your hand; one direction will feel smooth, the other will be rough. Roll with the smooth direction.
- Secure the Rug
Use simple string or fabric strips to tie the rolled rug in three places (both ends and the middle). Avoid using adhesive tapes like packing or duct tape, as they can leave a sticky residue that attracts soil and may even pull out fibres upon removal.
Material-Specific Instructions
- For Silk, Viscose, or Art Silk Rugs
These fibres are notoriously delicate and susceptible to bruising. Roll them as loosely as possible and tie them gently.
- For Antique or Fragile Wool Rugs
If your rug has worn areas or moth damage, which we often see, be extra careful. Roll the rug around a soft, supportive core like a rolled-up blanket to prevent creasing the foundation.
- For Cowhide or Sheepskin Rugs
Do not roll these tightly. A gentle, loose fold is better to prevent permanent creasing. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight while awaiting collection.

Once your rug is rolled and secured, if you’re not home, please leave it in a safe, undercover area such as a front porch or garage. If this isn’t possible, please advise our operator and our team will be happy to assist. Upon collection, each rug is carefully labelled with your details to ensure accurate identification at our facility.
