Water Damage Restoration

"Serving Homes Across Southeast QLD and Northern NSW"

Emergency Restoration for Water-Damaged Rugs

A burst pipe, a failed washing machine, or another summer storm cell rolling through the Gold Coast can saturate a rug in minutes. The clock starts ticking immediately. In the heat and humidity common from Brisbane to Byron Bay, trapped moisture creates the perfect breeding ground for mould and mildew, which can become established within 24-48 hours.

Our work isn’t just about cleaning; it’s about immediate, decisive action to prevent irreversible fibre damage, delamination, and microbial growth. We have over 29 years of experience providing this specialised service to homes across Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

Responding to Southeast Queensland & Northern NSW's Climate

Restoring a water-damaged rug in our subtropical climate is a different challenge than in drier parts of Australia. High atmospheric humidity fights against the drying process. A rug that isn’t dried with industrial-grade dehumidification and high-velocity air movers will retain moisture deep in its foundation, leading to musty odours and rot, even if it feels dry to the touch.

Queensland’s climate is characterized by its history of floods and droughts. These severe weather events, from tropical cyclones to intense thunderstorms, are a known feature of the region. This means water damage often involves more than just clean water; it can involve contaminants that pose a health risk.

Assessing Water Contamination Levels

Our first critical step is to identify the category of water damage. This determines the entire restoration and sanitisation protocol.

From a burst supply line or overflowing bath. While initially sanitary, it can degrade to Category 2 quickly if not addressed.

Discharge from a washing machine or dishwasher. Contains detergents and biological contaminants. Requires thorough cleaning and decontamination.

This is grossly unsanitary and often involves floodwaters. Local floodwaters across the Northern Rivers and SEQ can contain everything from sewage and agricultural runoff to soil and chemical contaminants, posing a significant health risk. Rugs impacted by black water require a stringent decontamination process to be made safe for your home.

Our Water Damaged Rug Cleaning Process

Based on the water category and your rug’s specific fibres (wool, silk, viscose, or synthetic), we adapt our certified process.

On-Site Assessment & Extraction

We first assess the damage at your property, providing a clear evaluation. We then use high-CFM extraction units to remove the bulk of the water from the rug and underlay.

Specialised Cleaning & Decontamination

At our dedicated rug facility in Yatala, the rug undergoes a full immersion cleaning. Depending on the contamination level, this may involve specialised treatments to neutralize bacteria, followed by a flush with pure, pH-balanced water to remove all residues.

Controlled Drying & Dehumidification

The rug is moved to a climate-controlled drying room. We use industrial low-grain refrigerant dehumidifiers and directed air movers to safely and thoroughly remove every last bit of moisture, preventing the risk of mould that is so common in our humid environment.

Final Grooming & Inspection

Once verifiably dry with a moisture meter, the rug’s pile is groomed, and the fringes are detailed. A final inspection ensures the texture, colour, and structure are restored before it's cleared for delivery back to your home.

Signs of Water Damage You Can't Ignore

If you suspect your rug has been affected, look for these signs:

The first and most obvious sign of microbial growth.

Indicates water has brought soils up to the surface of the fibres or caused dye bleed.

The rug may feel stiff, or the backing may begin to separate (delamination).

Often appears as black, green, or white spots on the surface or, more dangerously, on the backing.

If you see any of these signs, contact us. Quick action is the most important factor in a successful restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Water can penetrate deep into the rug’s fibres and foundation, leading to issues such as staining, odours, fibre weakening, and potential mould or mildew growth if not treated promptly.

In many cases, yes. Prompt professional cleaning and drying can help restore the rug and prevent long-term damage. The outcome depends on the extent of the water exposure and how quickly it is treated.

Rugs can be affected by clean water (e.g. leaks), grey water (e.g. washing machines), or contaminated water (e.g. floods). Each type requires different cleaning approaches.

As soon as possible. Delays can allow mould, mildew, and odours to develop, making the rug more difficult to restore.

Yes. Moisture trapped in rug fibres can lead to mould or mildew growth, especially in humid environments. Proper cleaning and drying are essential to prevent this.

Some rugs, especially those with natural dyes, may be at risk of colour bleeding. Professional cleaning includes testing and controlled methods to minimise this risk.

Yes. Professional cleaning can help remove musty or damp smells by targeting the source of the odour within the fibres.

The process can take several days depending on the severity of the damage, treatments required, and drying time.

Surface drying may help initially, but professional cleaning is recommended to ensure moisture and contaminants are fully removed from deep within the rug.

Yes. Pickup and delivery services are available so rugs can be safely transported to and from the cleaning facility.
