Tennyson is a small riverside suburb of 1.3 square kilometres, 9.4 kilometres southwest of the Brisbane GPO, in the City of Brisbane, sitting on the southern bank directly across the water from Graceville and Sherwood. The housing stock is small and well held. Older timber homes sit on the quiet streets, substantial riverside builds line King Arthur Terrace, and townhouses arrived with the redevelopment years around the tennis ground. An old dog on a good rug, and one accident that went straight through the pile and settled in the foundation where the smell is actually made.
There is nothing mysterious about why it returns. River air revives it every humid week because nothing has ever reached the layer it sits in. The wash empties that layer at the base, an enzyme stage removes the source, and complete drying takes away the conditions it depends on.

Odour Removal
The musty note a riverside house picks up over a long warm season, when the air off the water never really dries out and the rooms stay closed.

A suburb that traded a stone name for a poet's understands that some things deserve better than the plain option. So do good rugs: hand washing, not a machine.
This bend of the river was known as Softstone, a plain name for its soft riverside stone, and the district carried it into the 1880s. The change came from a compliment: a settler is said to have proposed the name Tennyson in honour of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the poet laureate, and the railway station took the new name in 1887. The suburb has answered to a poet ever since, which is a grand name for a very quiet place.
Queensland's home of tennis opened here on 2 January 2009.

The Queensland Tennis Centre opened on 2 January 2009 on the riverbank ground where the Tennyson power house once stood, a site that had earlier grown sugar cane and arrowroot and milled the cane on the spot. Yes, and there is no mystery to it. The urine is not sitting on the rug, it is lodged beneath the pile at the backing, where no spray reaches. A bath flushes that layer, an enzyme stage removes the source, and complete drying leaves the river air nothing at all to reactivate.

Do you need to move furniture to collect the rug?
Usually not, since most collections are simply a rolled rug handed over at the door. Where a lounge suite or a heavy table genuinely has to be shifted, a two-person team can be arranged on request at an additional charge, and that is agreed when you book rather than raised on the day.
