A firm figure before the rug leaves the valley
The rug is inspected and quoted once, and that figure is the one invoiced. If a piece is not worth the wash, you will be told that instead of being sold something.

Rug washing Upper Brookfield, for houses at the end of the road
The deep end of the valley
Upper Brookfield covers 36.5 square kilometres of ridge and forest country 22.5 kilometres west of the Brisbane CBD, in the City of Brisbane's Pullenvale Ward. Moggill Creek rises in its western hills and winds southeast toward Brookfield, and sections of D'Aguilar National Park close the north and northwest. Just 857 people lived here at the 2021 census, which we will state plainly rather than pretend this is a busy suburb. It is bush and acreage country with one long road in, and we service every property on it. That is the whole offer and there is nothing complicated about it. Rugs have been washed by hand at Premier Rug Cleaning for 29 years, and the pieces that come down this valley are among the largest on our books, which is exactly why somebody else has to move them.
The name was in use for sixty-five years before anyone wrote it down. This valley has never needed much paperwork.
Homesteads, sheds and rugs that will not fit in a car
The housing is acreage homesteads, farmhouses and architect builds on big forested blocks, with horse paddocks, sheds and long gravel drives between them. Interiors run generous, and the rug that anchors a homestead living room over timber floors is usually well beyond what any domestic method can handle. The daily load is genuine country: dust off the gravel, dogs in and out, boots that were meant to come off at the door and did not, and paddock gear that gets carried through because there is nowhere else to put it down. All of that is fixable and none of it is unusual to us. What is unusual out here is the logistics, and that is the part we take on. The driver rolls the rug, carries it, and brings it back. Nobody is folding a four metre wool piece into the back of a wagon.
Forest country keeps its moisture
Mornings arrive misty in the valley folds, the gullies hold damp air for days after rain, and houses are shut up through cold winter nights with the fire going. Between the wet spells the gravel roads grind dust fine enough to travel indoors on anything. Wool collects the lot, and it holds it at the base of the pile where no vacuum reaches. The result is a rug that looks tired and smells faintly of last winter. An immersion bath strips the valley's seasons back out of the fibre, and controlled drying at our Yatala facility means the rug goes back down completely dry rather than dry on top, which matters in a house where the floors are timber and the air is already damp. The run out is honest about itself, down the valley to Kenmore and onto the motorway network, and the western run already comes past Brookfield and Pullenvale.

The long way down and back
Even the drive is ours rather than yours. Upper Brookfield is a stop on the scheduled western run, collection and return travel with the job, and the window is settled when the day is.
A name that waited, a fruit-farm auction, and a school that came back
A one-road district that has always sorted itself out.
In use from about 1910, official on 11 August 1975.
A district that ran on plain understanding suits how we deal: an honest assessment, a firm quote before any work, and a rug back at the door completely dry.
Upper Brookfield is named for its position up the valley from Brookfield, and the name came into local use about 1910, when the district's farms needed telling apart from the settlement downstream. Officialdom took its time. The suburb was not formally named and bounded until 11 August 1975. For 65 years the name worked perfectly well without paperwork, which says a lot about how this valley operates.
Twenty-three fruit-farm blocks were auctioned along Upper Brookfield Road in 1914.
Blocks drawn for fruit farms became today's acreage homes, and their oversized rugs are why our driver comes up the valley. There is no rug too big for the wash floor.
In 1914 the valley was sold as orchard country. Twenty-three fruit-farm blocks around Upper Brookfield Road and its junctions with Kittani Street and Pacey Road went to market as the Brookfield Fruit Farms Estate, promoted as ground for bananas, pineapples and vegetables. The orchards have mostly gone back to paddocks and bush, but the road pattern and the long narrow blocks of that sale still shape who lives here and how.
Opened 1916, closed 1921, reopened 1923, still teaching.
A school kept alive by a small district's stubbornness is our kind of institution. We give the same effort to every rug, whether the suburb has 857 residents or seventeen thousand.
Upper Brookfield State School opened in 1916 for the fruit-farm families, closed in 1921 when the valley could not fill it, then reopened in 1923 and has taught ever since. A one-road district that lost its school and won it back within two years clearly wanted it badly, and more than a century later the little school is still the deep valley's one public institution.

Upper Brookfield questions, answered plainly
How much does rug cleaning in Upper Brookfield cost?
Even a rug the size of a room is priced the same way, by looking at it. Dimensions, fibre and condition settle the figure, and it is given once. Even with the drive, collection and return stay part of the western run. And even a favourite gets an honest no when it has finished.
Our rug is enormous. Is there a size you cannot handle?
Not in practice. Room-sized acreage pieces are routine work at the Yatala facility, which has the tub space and the floor space that a house does not. The driver rolls and carries the rug at your end, so nothing has to be dragged out to a vehicle or folded into anything.
Will you actually come this far up the valley?
Yes. The western run already reaches Brookfield and Pullenvale, so an Upper Brookfield collection slots onto the same scheduled day. The drive is 55 to 65 minutes each way and that is our problem, not yours. Pickup and delivery stay part of the job on the scheduled run.
The dogs have urinated on the big wool rug. Will the smell come out?
Yes, even on a rug the size of a room. Urine passes the pile and lodges at the foundation, so nothing applied to the surface will finish the job. The bath flushes the foundation, enzymes then break down the source, and the drying is completed so valley damp cannot revive any of it.
Do you also collect from Brookfield, Pullenvale and Kenmore?
Yes, even though the valley road is a detour in its own right. Brookfield, Pullenvale and Kenmore are on the same western day, as are Anstead, Moggill, Bellbowrie and Lake Manchester. Combine with a neighbour and $20 comes off each rug after the first.
Can a rug come back faster than the standard week?
Yes, although the run day is the real constraint out here. Seven days door to door is the usual, and express handling inside 48 hours can be added at additional cost. Even then, nothing is delivered before it is dry all the way through the backing.
