Rug washing Upper Brookfield, for houses at the end of the road

The deep end of the valley

Upper Brookfield covers 36.5 square kilometres of ridge and forest country 22.5 kilometres west of the Brisbane CBD, in the City of Brisbane's Pullenvale Ward. Moggill Creek rises in its western hills and winds southeast toward Brookfield, and sections of D'Aguilar National Park close the north and northwest. Just 857 people lived here at the 2021 census, which we will state plainly rather than pretend this is a busy suburb. It is bush and acreage country with one long road in, and we service every property on it. That is the whole offer and there is nothing complicated about it. Rugs have been washed by hand at Premier Rug Cleaning for 29 years, and the pieces that come down this valley are among the largest on our books, which is exactly why somebody else has to move them.

The name was in use for sixty-five years before anyone wrote it down. This valley has never needed much paperwork.

Homesteads, sheds and rugs that will not fit in a car

The housing is acreage homesteads, farmhouses and architect builds on big forested blocks, with horse paddocks, sheds and long gravel drives between them. Interiors run generous, and the rug that anchors a homestead living room over timber floors is usually well beyond what any domestic method can handle. The daily load is genuine country: dust off the gravel, dogs in and out, boots that were meant to come off at the door and did not, and paddock gear that gets carried through because there is nowhere else to put it down. All of that is fixable and none of it is unusual to us. What is unusual out here is the logistics, and that is the part we take on. The driver rolls the rug, carries it, and brings it back. Nobody is folding a four metre wool piece into the back of a wagon.

Forest country keeps its moisture

Mornings arrive misty in the valley folds, the gullies hold damp air for days after rain, and houses are shut up through cold winter nights with the fire going. Between the wet spells the gravel roads grind dust fine enough to travel indoors on anything. Wool collects the lot, and it holds it at the base of the pile where no vacuum reaches. The result is a rug that looks tired and smells faintly of last winter. An immersion bath strips the valley's seasons back out of the fibre, and controlled drying at our Yatala facility means the rug goes back down completely dry rather than dry on top, which matters in a house where the floors are timber and the air is already damp. The run out is honest about itself, down the valley to Kenmore and onto the motorway network, and the western run already comes past Brookfield and Pullenvale.

Rug Cleaning Upper Brookfield

Dry material is worked out of the base before water is introduced, and there is a great deal of it out here. Then the bath is done by hand at Yatala, the dry is finished properly, and the pile is brought back upright.

Gravel drives are the local difference. What comes off them is coarse, mineral and heavy, and it drops straight through pile to sit at the foundation. Left there it cuts fibre every time someone crosses the rug in boots, which on an acreage block is most of the day.

  • Built for gravel-drive households
  • Coarse mineral grit removed
  • Pile brought back upright

Rug Washing Upper Brookfield

Big wool and Persian rugs are lowered right in, hand worked at the pH that particular fibre wants, and rinsed until the tub water stops colouring.

If a rug is too big to move, it is too big to clean at home, and that is the honest position rather than a sales line. Room-sized pieces need a tub and a floor with space around them. Ours has both, and the driver handles the rolling and the lifting at your end.

  • No size limit on the wash floor
  • Acidity matched to the fibre
  • The driver does the lifting
Most popular

Stain Removal

Mud off boots, hoof oil, wood ash from the fire, and the wine that went over during a dinner nobody was driving home from.

Country marks are usually oil-based or mineral, and both behave differently from a household spill. We identify the fibre and test the dye before anything is applied, then say plainly which marks will disappear and which will only lighten. Nothing gets promised that cannot be delivered. Hoof oil and wood ash are the two most people attempt themselves first.

  • Country marks read correctly
  • Dye tested before treatment
  • Nothing promised in advance

Pet Stain and Odour

Working dogs with the run of a house, and one accident that soaked past the pile and settled in the foundation where the smell is genuinely produced.

Even after a dry fortnight, the next wet spell brings it back, which is why people decide a rug is beyond help. The tub flushes the residue out through the backing, an enzyme stage neutralises the source, and drying the piece right out removes exactly what it needs to return.

  • Treated in the foundation
  • Enzymes neutralise the source
  • Wet spells stop reviving it

Odour Removal

The wood-smoke and closed-room note a valley house carries by the end of winter, when the fire has been going most nights for months.

Smoke particles are fine enough to settle deep and stubborn enough that vacuuming never lifts them. Even a rug aired outside keeps them. The bath dissolves the residue that holds the smell, the rinse takes it away, and the drying stage removes the damp underneath it. Valley houses run the fire from May through August.

  • Wood smoke is the local problem
  • Dissolved and rinsed, not masked
  • Returns smelling of nothing

Rug Spot Cleaning

One fresh mark on a rug that is otherwise sound can often be treated where it lies, which saves a trip down the valley and back.

Even though it costs less, it is only offered where it honestly applies. Even a rug in good order carries an even coat of valley dust, which means the treated patch can finish brighter than the mark ever was. Even then, you are told before anything starts rather than afterwards.

  • Saves a trip when it works
  • Contrast raised before starting
  • Your decision from there

Rug Steam Cleaning

Hot water extraction for the machine made pieces doing hard duty: the mud room mat, the runner at the back door, the rug in a shed office.

Even on acreage, plenty of what a household owns was built to take it and comes back sooner. Anything hand knotted or antique is kept out, because that mechanical action is what a century-old foundation cannot survive. Even so, each rug is placed at the assessment and you are told the reason.

  • Right for the hard-duty pieces
  • Faster return where it suits
  • Kept away from hand knotted work

Rug Dry Cleaning

Low moisture cleaning for rugs whose dyes will not survive water, and for old homestead pieces with foundations that have gone brittle.

Even a swab takes only two minutes, and it settles what a tub would settle much too late. Rugs that fail go through the dry process instead, compounds in sections with the piece supported flat. Homestead pieces handed down through the fruit-farm families are the usual case. Even a rug held since the fruit-farm years gets the same two-minute test.

  • Common on homestead pieces
  • Answered by swab in minutes
  • Supported flat, never soaked

Water Damage Restoration

A tank pump failure, a hot water service in a shed, or storm water running off a hillside straight through a low door.

Even with a scheduled run, we are the better part of an hour away, so the first response is yours. Ring the same day, get the rug up off the floor, and say what the water was. Stabilising and drying come before washing, and the verdict comes before any cost.

  • Get it off the floor first
  • Stabilised and dried, then washed
  • Verdict before any cost

Mould Rug Cleaning

The bloom that forms under a rug on a cool homestead floor, and the musty stripe in a room that stays shut through a wet fortnight.

Even between wet spells the gullies hold moisture and the mornings arrive misty, which is the condition growth wants. A treated bath flushes out the colony with the damp residue supporting it, and even then the result depends on finishing the drying stage properly. Rooms on the southern side of a valley house meet it first.

  • Valley mist is the usual cause
  • Antimicrobial bath and rinse
  • Drying finished, not rushed

Rug Moth Treatment

Moth grubs go for wool that never moves, under a heavy homestead table or beneath a lounge that has not shifted in a decade.

Even a rug that looks entirely sound can be thinning underneath, because that is where the eating happens. One treated cycle covers eggs and grubs, the tub flushes the casings and debris out of the pile, and the true extent is shown to you with a plain view on repair.

  • Eggs and grubs in one cycle
  • Casings carried out of the pile
  • True extent, plainly shown

Stain Protection

A clear finish goes on as the wash ends, so the next spill sits at the surface for a few seconds instead of dropping straight into the fibre.

Even on a room-sized rug that takes an hour to get out of the house, those seconds are worth paying for. Colour and hand stay exactly as they were, nobody visiting will know, and most accidents become a job for a towel. Out here the alternative is another trip up the valley.

  • Worth it on room-sized pieces
  • Colour and hand unchanged
  • A towel instead of a collection

Three Upper Brookfield stories

A name that waited, a fruit-farm auction, and a school that came back

A one-road district that has always sorted itself out.

The name that waited 65 years

In use from about 1910, official on 11 August 1975.

A district that ran on plain understanding suits how we deal: an honest assessment, a firm quote before any work, and a rug back at the door completely dry.

The fruit farms of 1914

Twenty-three fruit-farm blocks were auctioned along Upper Brookfield Road in 1914.

Blocks drawn for fruit farms became today's acreage homes, and their oversized rugs are why our driver comes up the valley. There is no rug too big for the wash floor.

The school that closed and came back

Opened 1916, closed 1921, reopened 1923, still teaching.

A school kept alive by a small district's stubbornness is our kind of institution. We give the same effort to every rug, whether the suburb has 857 residents or seventeen thousand.

No more musty room in Upper Brookfield
I noticed the mildew along the backing on the jute rug and did not want to put it back inside. I liked that they talked about drying as much as cleaning. It came back smelling fresh and dry. For our house, a clean, dry rug mattered more than making it look artificially new. I was less worried about perfection than getting practical advice and a clean result.

Good to know

Upper Brookfield questions, answered plainly

How much does rug cleaning in Upper Brookfield cost?

Even a rug the size of a room is priced the same way, by looking at it. Dimensions, fibre and condition settle the figure, and it is given once. Even with the drive, collection and return stay part of the western run. And even a favourite gets an honest no when it has finished.

Our rug is enormous. Is there a size you cannot handle?

Not in practice. Room-sized acreage pieces are routine work at the Yatala facility, which has the tub space and the floor space that a house does not. The driver rolls and carries the rug at your end, so nothing has to be dragged out to a vehicle or folded into anything.

Will you actually come this far up the valley?

Yes. The western run already reaches Brookfield and Pullenvale, so an Upper Brookfield collection slots onto the same scheduled day. The drive is 55 to 65 minutes each way and that is our problem, not yours. Pickup and delivery stay part of the job on the scheduled run.

The dogs have urinated on the big wool rug. Will the smell come out?

Yes, even on a rug the size of a room. Urine passes the pile and lodges at the foundation, so nothing applied to the surface will finish the job. The bath flushes the foundation, enzymes then break down the source, and the drying is completed so valley damp cannot revive any of it.

Do you also collect from Brookfield, Pullenvale and Kenmore?

Yes, even though the valley road is a detour in its own right. Brookfield, Pullenvale and Kenmore are on the same western day, as are Anstead, Moggill, Bellbowrie and Lake Manchester. Combine with a neighbour and $20 comes off each rug after the first.

Can a rug come back faster than the standard week?

Yes, although the run day is the real constraint out here. Seven days door to door is the usual, and express handling inside 48 hours can be added at additional cost. Even then, nothing is delivered before it is dry all the way through the backing.
