Rug washing for Brisbane homes, from Queenslanders to riverside apartments

Timber floors and character homes

Brisbane keeps its rugs on timber. Nearly every pre-1946 house in the city sits under Council's character overlay, so whole streets in Paddington, Ashgrove, Coorparoo and Wilston still run polished hoop pine floors, with wool and Persian rugs doing the work carpet does elsewhere. Those rugs catch the grit that comes off the boards, and grit at the base of the pile cuts fibre every time someone walks across it. That part of the story most Brisbane rug owners already know.

Apartments and designer rugs

The other half of our Brisbane work looks nothing like a Queenslander. New Farm, Newstead, Teneriffe and the CBD are full of apartments where a single large designer rug anchors the living space, often viscose or bamboo silk, with no laundry, yard or hose that could ever deal with it. For those clients the service is the point: the driver takes the rolled rug from the lobby, and a clean, dry rug comes back the same way on the standard 7 day turnaround.

Wool, silk and inherited Persian rugs

What is on the floor varies as much as the housing. In one week our Yatala wash floor might hold a hand-knotted Kashan from a Paddington hallway, a silk piece that cannot take water and goes to low-moisture cleaning instead, a jute rug from a Samford acreage kitchen, and a synthetic play rug that just needs a proper hygienic wash. Each fibre is identified before anything is decided, because wool, silk, viscose and jute each punish the wrong method in their own way.

If the rug is a family piece and you are nervous about handing it over, that is normal. Owners of inherited Persian rugs are our most careful listeners, and they become our longest customers for the same reason: we test dyes before washing, we wash by hand rather than machine-scrub, and we tell you what we found when the rug comes home.

A hose over the fence will not fix a wet rug. It needs a full immersion wash and controlled drying.

Storm season, pets and everyday Brisbane life

Summer is the season that makes Brisbane rug work different. February is the wettest month, humidity peaks near 77 per cent, and the afternoon storms find every tired gutter in the city. A rug that cops a leak can grow mould in days, not weeks, and wool holds moisture long after the surface feels dry. Every autumn our wash floor fills with storm cases, and the earlier a soaked rug reaches us, the better its odds.

Pets and kids write the rest of the work orders. Dogs on bayside verandahs, cats in inner-city units, toddlers at dinner time. Accidents soak through to the foundation of a rug, which is why supermarket sprays only mask them, and why our enzyme treatments deal with the source before the rug is washed.

BrookfieldPullenvaleChandlerWynnumand every suburb between them

Those runs make all this possible. The routine does not change: your rug is inspected first, we tell you what we find, and you get a firm quote before anything touches water. If a rug is not worth the spend, we say that too. Pickup and delivery are free on our scheduled Brisbane runs, the facility is about 40 minutes down the M1 at Yatala, and the rug is usually home in 7 days.

Rug Cleaning Brisbane

The full service for Brisbane rugs: dusting to remove dry grit, a hand wash by full immersion at our Yatala facility, then controlled drying and a final groom. Free pickup and delivery across greater Brisbane, and every rug is inspected and quoted before we start.

Most of the damage we see in Brisbane rugs starts with grit worked into the base of the pile, and no vacuum gets it all out. Dusting first, then immersion washing, is the only way we know to remove it properly. Your rug is usually home in 7 days.

  • Wool, Persian, oriental and designer rugs
  • Inspected and quoted before any wash
  • Standard 7 day turnaround

Rug Washing Brisbane

Our signature service. The rug is fully submerged at Yatala, washed by hand, rinsed clean and dried flat under controlled airflow. It suits the rugs Brisbane homes actually hold, from wool pieces on Queenslander floorboards to hand-knotted rugs bought to last decades.

A surface clean leaves the base of the pile untouched, which is where Brisbane's grit and summer damp actually sit. Full immersion washes the whole rug, foundation included. It is the method handmade rugs were designed for, and it is all we have done for 29 years.

  • Full immersion, never surface scrubbing
  • Safe for delicate and handmade rugs
  • Free pickup and delivery included
Most popular

Stain Removal

Red wine at a New Farm dinner party, coffee on a home office rug, mud walked up a Paddington hallway. We identify the fibre first, then the stain, and match the treatment to both. We regularly shift marks other cleaners have given up on.

The wrong chemical sets a stain instead of lifting it, and can take the dye with it. That is why nothing touches your rug until we know what the fibre is and what the mark is. After 29 years of nothing but rugs, few stains surprise us, and we tell you honestly what will shift before we start.

  • Wine, coffee, ink and food marks
  • Colour-safe, fibre-matched treatments
  • An honest call on what will shift

Pet Stain and Odour

Brisbane is a dog city, and accidents soak straight through the pile into the rug's foundation. Sprays only mask the smell. Our enzyme treatments break down the organic matter itself, then a full hygienic wash carries it away, so the rug comes home genuinely clean.

Urine, vomit and general accidents each need a different enzyme to break down. Once the source is digested, the immersion wash removes it completely rather than perfuming over it. The rug comes back safe again for the kids and the dog to lie on.

  • Urine, vomit and general accidents
  • Enzyme treatment at the source
  • Finished with a full hygienic wash

Odour Removal

Musty rugs are a Brisbane specialty, usually after a humid February or years stored under a Queenslander. Trapped odours live deep in the fibre where deodorisers never reach. We neutralise them at the source during a full wash, so the rug comes back smelling of nothing at all.

Damp mustiness, cigarette smoke and stored-rug staleness each respond to a different treatment, which is why we deal with them during the wash rather than spraying over the top. Inherited and stored rugs are our most common odour jobs, and most come back fresh.

  • Damp, smoke and storage smells
  • Neutralised in the wash, not masked
  • Common for inherited and stored rugs

Rug Spot Cleaning

A fresh spill on an otherwise clean rug does not always need the full wash. Spot cleaning treats the mark directly, a quick and budget-friendly option for Brisbane households. If a full wash would genuinely serve the rug better, we say so before any work begins.

A spot clean is right when the spill is small, fresh and has not soaked through. If the mark has wicked into the foundation or already been through a supermarket cleaner, a full wash usually does more for the rug. We tell you which is which up front.

  • Single spills and marks
  • A targeted, budget-friendly option
  • Honest advice before any work starts

Rug Steam Cleaning

Hot-water extraction is the right tool for hard-wearing synthetics and busy family rugs, the sort that live in Brisbane's rental units and kids' playrooms. Heat and strong extraction lift ground-in grime and sanitise deep in the pile. Delicate fibres never see steam.

Immersion washing is our gold standard, but some synthetics and latex-backed rugs respond better to hot-water extraction. We assess fibre, construction and condition before choosing, so each rug gets the method it can safely handle.

  • Hard-wearing and synthetic rugs
  • Deep sanitising clean
  • Never used on delicate fibres

Rug Dry Cleaning

Viscose, some silks and fragile antiques cannot take water. Brisbane's designer apartments are full of viscose pieces, and we treat them with low-moisture dry cleaning that refreshes the rug safely, with no shrinkage, dye bleed or water-marking.

Twenty-nine years of nothing but rugs means we can tell viscose from silk at a glance. If you are not sure what your rug is made of, do not guess. Send it in for an honest assessment and we will match the method to the fibre.

  • Viscose, silk and antique rugs
  • No shrinkage or dye bleed
  • Chosen after a fibre assessment

Water Damage Restoration

When a February storm gets through a Brisbane roof, speed decides what survives. Mould, browning and dye migration set in fast in a wet rug. We collect quickly across greater Brisbane, then rinse, sanitise and dry the rug under controlled airflow before the damage becomes permanent.

Every day a rug stays wet, the damage compounds. In Brisbane's humidity mould establishes within days, dyes migrate and browning sets in. The earlier a storm-soaked rug reaches Yatala, the more of it we can save, so get in touch as soon as the water stops.

  • Leaks, floods and storm-soaked rugs
  • Rinsed, sanitised and properly dried
  • The sooner we collect, the better

Mould Rug Cleaning

Brisbane's wet season puts mould into rugs every year, and a musty smell is usually the first sign. We kill the spores rather than cleaning over them, remove staining where possible, and dry the rug properly so the mould does not come back.

Mould returns if a rug is not dried right, which is why controlled-airflow drying at the facility matters as much as the treatment itself. If a rug smells musty after rain or a damp room, that is the early warning. Caught early, it usually washes out.

  • Musty smell or visible mould
  • Spores killed, not cleaned over
  • Dried properly so it stays gone

Rug Moth Treatment

Moth larvae eat wool from the base of the pile, usually under a couch in a quiet Brisbane lounge room, and the bare patches appear long after the damage began. Our treatment clears eggs and larvae, and a full wash removes the residue they leave behind.

If a wool rug is headed for storage, treat it first. Larvae sealed away with a rug do their worst undisturbed. We treat, wash out the residue, and can advise on storing the rug so it comes out of the cupboard the way it went in.

  • Wool and natural-fibre rugs
  • Stops the damage spreading
  • Smart before long-term storage

Stain Protection

Applied fresh after a wash, protection coats each fibre so spills bead on the surface instead of soaking in. That buys you time to blot before a mark becomes a stain. A smart finish for dining rugs, hallway runners and any high-traffic piece in a busy Brisbane home.

Protection bonds best to clean fibre, which is why it is the finishing step after a wash rather than a stand-alone job. It does not change how the rug looks or feels. It simply gives you a window to reach a spill first, and makes the next clean easier.

  • Applied fresh after a wash
  • Spills bead instead of soaking in
  • Good for dining and hallway rugs

Our home town

The Brisbane we collect from

Six Brisbane landmarks, and where our pickup runs fit around them.

Story Bridge

Brisbane's steel landmark, linking Fortitude Valley to Kangaroo Point since 1940.

Our pickup drivers cross it regularly on the inner-city run, collecting rolled rugs from apartments in Kangaroo Point and New Farm on the same loop.

South Bank Parklands and Streets Beach

17 hectares of riverside parkland on the old Expo 88 site, with Australia's only inner-city man-made beach.

The apartment towers around South Bank and South Brisbane are a regular stop on our inner-city collection run, and lift-and-lobby pickups suit a rolled rug.

Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA)

Australia's largest gallery of modern and contemporary art, on Kurilpa Point at South Brisbane.

A city that files through GOMA appreciates handmade work. A hand-knotted Persian or Turkish rug is the same idea underfoot, and we wash them by hand at Yatala the way they were made.

Brisbane City Hall

The 1930 sandstone civic building on King George Square, with its 87-metre clock tower.

We have been washing Brisbane's rugs for 29 years, long enough to have cleaned rugs from homes in every suburb the tower overlooks.

Howard Smith Wharves

Restored 1930s wharves under the Story Bridge, reopened in 2018 as a riverside dining precinct.

Restoring something old and well-made instead of throwing it out is exactly our line of work. Petrie Bight and the New Farm end of the wharves are minutes from our regular inner-city pickup stops.

Roma Street Parkland

16 hectares of subtropical garden on the old Roma Street rail yards, at the western edge of the CBD.

Spring Hill and Petrie Terrace homes around the parkland are part of the same inner-city run our driver covers when collecting rugs from the CBD fringe.

Good to know

Rug cleaning in Brisbane, answered

Which Brisbane suburbs do you collect from?

All of them. Our runs cover the inner city, the north side, the south side, the eastern suburbs out to the bayside at Wynnum and Manly, and the western corridor through Ipswich. Wherever you are in greater Brisbane, pickup and delivery are free on a scheduled run.

How long does rug cleaning take in Brisbane?

Standard turnaround is 7 days from pickup to delivery. If you need a rug back sooner, a 48 hour express service is available at an additional cost.

Do you clean rugs in the home, or do they travel?

They travel, and that is deliberate. A proper wash means full immersion, and no machine can do that in a lounge room. Our driver collects the rolled rug, it is washed by hand at our Yatala facility about 40 minutes down the M1, and it comes back fully dry.

Can you save a rug that grew mould after a storm?

Often, yes, and the sooner it reaches us the better the odds. February and March storms keep our wash floor busy with mould jobs every year. We inspect the rug first and tell you honestly whether it is worth saving before you spend a dollar.

What does rug cleaning cost in Brisbane?

It depends on the rug's size, fibre and condition, so we quote each rug individually after inspecting it. The quote is free with no obligation, and every extra rug in the same pickup is $20 off.

Is hand washing safe for Persian and antique rugs?

It is the method they were made for. We test dyes before washing, wash by hand rather than machine-scrub, and dry rugs flat under controlled airflow at Yatala. That is why owners of hand-knotted rugs send them to us rather than to a carpet cleaner.
