The southside is our own backyard
One motorway, and it runs the whole way
Our facility sits at Yatala, south of this territory and on the same motorway as most of it, so the southside run works north in one clean line: over the Sunnybank plateau, through the Mount Gravatt suburbs and Wishart, and up to Annerley, Greenslopes and Stones Corner on the inner edge, with the south west at Inala, Darra and Forest Lake collected off the Logan Motorway. Sunnybank, Mount Gravatt and Wishart sit 30 to 34 kilometres out, 25 to 30 minutes; Annerley and Greenslopes about 38 kilometres.
Brick-belt wool and Sunnybank silk
The rugs change as the run goes. Holland Park and Tarragindi have interwar timber homes with decent wool rugs, the Mount Gravatt belt is 1960s to 1980s brick family houses with a good rug in the front room, and the Sunnybank corridor holds some of the finest silk and fine wool rugs we collect in Brisbane. Silk never sees a machine here. It is dye-tested, washed by hand and dried flat, and if a rug is not worth the spend we say so before you commit to anything.
The southside, street by street
This territory runs from the inner ring at Annerley, Greenslopes and Stones Corner, across the Mount Gravatt suburbs and the Sunnybank plateau, and out through Inala, Durack and Forest Lake in the south west. They are hardworking family suburbs with pets in plenty of yards, and the acreage at Burbank and Rochedale adds shed dust and animal traffic, the base-of-pile dirt that immersion washing exists to remove. Rugs from these streets are often collected, washed and home inside the same week's runs.
A rug that got damp in February and still smells in April needs a wash, not a spray.
Storm season starts on this side
The southside is the inland side of the city. There is no bay breeze to take the edge off summer, the heat sits harder over the Sunnybank plateau, and the November to February storm cells tend to roll in from exactly this direction, with the south west at Inala and Forest Lake copping the first of it. Months of dust and dry heat followed by a burst of storm damp is the exact cycle that sets smells into wool, and a full immersion wash resets it.
That is the southern run, south to north. Pickup and delivery are free on the scheduled runs, the quote comes before the wash, and the rug is usually home in 7 days.

Where your rug is washed
The southside we know from the van
Six places we pass between the wash floor and the city.
The southside's own summit, 193 metres above the city with views to the bay.
The brick family homes ringing the mountain at Mount Gravatt, Wishart and Mansfield are the backbone of our southside pickup run, twenty-five minutes up the M1 from the wash floor.

Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve rises above the southside and its lookout gives a wide sweep over the city; on a clear day you can pick out the Moreton Bay islands, the D'Aguilar Range and even the Glass House Mountains. There is a cafe on the summit deck, and walking tracks run down from the top toward Griffith University below.
The open-air eating precinct at the centre of Brisbane's best Asian food neighbourhood.
Sunnybank and Robertson homes hold some of the finest silk and wool rugs we collect anywhere in Brisbane, and hand washing is the only safe way to clean them. This precinct sits mid-route on our southside mornings.

Sunnybank became Brisbane's standout Asian dining district after families began settling in the area through the 1980s, and Market Square on Mains Road is its original heart: an outdoor maze of Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Malaysian and Chinese restaurants, grocers and dessert bars opposite the bigger Sunnybank Plaza. Food crowds fill it every night of the week.
The bushland belt the southside's inner suburbs are built around.
Bush-edge streets send leaf litter, pollen and fine dust indoors all year, and it settles at the base of a rug rather than on the surface. That is precisely the load a full immersion wash removes and a vacuum only moves around.

Toohey Forest runs behind Nathan, Tarragindi, Salisbury and Holland Park West, with Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve rising out of its eastern end and Griffith University sitting below it. Walking tracks cross the whole reserve and link the summit down to the forest picnic grounds, which is why so many southside households live within a few streets of genuine bush without ever leaving the suburbs.
The southside's transit spine, running station to station beside the motorway.
The busway corridor is the middle of our southside pickup run. The suburbs around its stations sit on the same scheduled loop, rugs collected rolled at the door and returned within the standard turnaround.

The busway opened in stages: Queen Street to Woolloongabba in September 2000, then the 13.2-kilometre run out to Eight Mile Plains in April 2001. It stitched the southside together, with Buranda, Greenslopes, Holland Park West, Griffith University, Upper Mount Gravatt and Eight Mile Plains all sitting on its stations, and buses moving between them on their own roadway, clear of the traffic alongside.
Seventeen kilometres of dedicated bikeway from the city to Eight Mile Plains.
A suburb that rides to work still walks on wool at home. The streets either side of the V1, through Greenslopes, Tarragindi and Holland Park West, sit inside the free southside pickup area on set runs each week.
The V1 runs beside the Pacific Motorway from the edge of South Brisbane out to Eight Mile Plains: a cycleway with no cars to share, built in five stages, with the final link at Tarragindi opening in mid-2020. It gave the southside something few corridors anywhere in Brisbane have, a completely separated ride from the suburbs to the city.
The lake at the centre of Brisbane's first master-planned community.
Forest Lake and the suburbs around it run on family routines, and our pickup model suits them: book the form, leave the rolled rug ready, and it is back in about a week.

Forest Lake was launched in 1991 as the first master-planned community in Brisbane, a Delfin development of about 7,700 house lots wrapped around a purpose-built lake and 120 hectares of parks. The 2.5 kilometre lake circuit, its birdlife and the weekend crowds at the shore parklands are now simply part of south-west Brisbane life, and the design won a string of planning awards along the way.

Southside rug questions, answered straight
Which suburbs count as the southside run?
Everything from Annerley, Greenslopes and Stones Corner out through Holland Park, the Mount Gravatt suburbs and Sunnybank, the acreage at Burbank and Rochedale, and the south west through Inala, Durack and Forest Lake. Pickup and delivery are free across the lot.
How close are you, really?
Our facility is at Yatala, one clean motorway run from the whole territory. Sunnybank is 25 to 30 minutes down the motorway and Annerley about 38 kilometres, which keeps southside pickups simple to schedule.
Can you clean a silk rug from the Sunnybank corridor?
Yes, and only by hand. Silk is dye-tested first, washed gently at the facility and dried flat. No machine touches it. If a piece is too fragile or the damage will not recover, we say so before you spend anything.
The dog keeps going back to the same spot on the rug. Why?
Because the urine is still in the foundation, even when the surface smells clean to you. Dogs re-mark what they can smell. Enzyme treatment digests the source, the immersion wash removes it completely, and the habit usually stops once the trace is gone.
The rug still smells weeks after storm season. Will a wash fix it?
Almost always, because the smell has a source: damp that got into the pile and stayed. A spray masks it for a day. A full immersion wash removes it, and the rug comes back properly dry.
Do you collect from acreage out at Burbank or Rochedale?
Yes, the run covers the southside's acreage belt. Big rugs with shed dust and animal traffic are normal work for us; that base-of-pile dirt is exactly what immersion washing exists for.
