The suburb came late. This land sat inside the agricultural reserve Governor Bowen marked out in 1861, and a military survey map drawn in 1922 found just four houses standing in the entire area. Mould Rug Cleaning

Stretton is named for George Stretton, who kept the post office and a hotel at Browns Plains in the 1870s, when this whole district was farm blocks and timber tracks. The name went onto the map officially in 1972, a full century after his day. Before the estates, the land had formed part of the agricultural reserve Governor Bowen set aside in 1861, and a 1922 military map recorded just four houses in the entire area.

Stretton State College opened for the 2006 school year and grew quickly into one of the southside's big campuses, teaching around 2,590 students from Prep through Year 12 with close to 200 teachers.
