An honest quote for Stretton's finest rugs
Silk and hand knotted pieces deserve a considered figure, not a guess over the phone. The rug is inspected, the quote is set, and it does not move afterwards.

Rug washing Stretton, for pieces bought to keep
The plateau's finest rug population
Stretton is the prestige corner of the Sunnybank plateau, 4.5 square kilometres of large modern homes on generous blocks about 17 kilometres south of the city, hills across the northern half and quiet bushland edges to the south. Only 4,686 people lived here at the 2021 census, yet the suburb holds one of the densest concentrations of serious rugs we collect anywhere on the southside. Thirty-eight per cent of residents recorded Chinese ancestry in that count, and the households we visit own hand knotted silk, fine wool and viscose pieces chosen as long term investments, rugs intended to outlast the furniture around them and often the house itself. Ownership like that deserves a cleaner who thinks in decades too, which is the standard Premier Rug Cleaning has kept for 29 years.
A rug bought to last generations should never be cleaned in a hurry.
Late built streets, hard floors, working rugs
The suburb came late. This land sat inside the agricultural reserve Governor Bowen marked out in 1861, and a military survey map drawn in 1922 found just four houses standing in the entire area. The estates arrived through the 1980s and 1990s, a century after George Stretton kept his post office up the road at Browns Plains, which means the housing stock is young: tiled and timber floors throughout, formal lounges, big open living spaces. Hard floors put rugs to work in every room, softening tile in winter and catching the traffic of school mornings year round. Even the finest piece gradually takes on a film of grit that dulls its colour years before it ever looks dirty, and most of what we wash out of Stretton rugs was invisible on the day the booking was made. The owners are rarely careless people. The change is simply too slow to see.
Inland heat, storm damp and what they do to wool
Stretton sits on Brisbane's inland flank, past the reach of any bay breeze. Summer parks itself over the plateau, and the storm cells of late spring and midsummer usually announce themselves from this side of the city first. The southern streets back onto bushland that adds fine dust and leaf litter to the air. Long dry months grind that dust down into the pile, the humid weeks then bind it in place, and wool remembers the whole sequence as a smell that no amount of vacuuming reverses. A full immersion bath at Yatala takes the whole cycle back to zero. The motorway makes the logistics easy: collection and return ride our scheduled southside run, and the rug arrives back dry all the way through the foundation.

The postmaster, the college and the empty map
A suburb a century in the making keeps its history close.
The suburb carries the name of an 1870s settler, postmaster and hotelier.
A suburb a century in the making suits a trade that thinks long term. A good hand knotted rug outlasts its first house, and an honest wash every few years is what keeps it doing so.
Stretton is named for George Stretton, who kept the post office and a hotel at Browns Plains in the 1870s, when this whole district was farm blocks and timber tracks. The name went onto the map officially in 1972, a full century after his day. Before the estates, the land had formed part of the agricultural reserve Governor Bowen set aside in 1861, and a 1922 military map recorded just four houses in the entire area.
The Prep-to-12 college that gave the suburb its own school in 2006.
College-run mornings are hard on hallway and living room rugs. They ride our van rolled, take their bath at Yatala, and land back in about a week, completely dry.
Stretton State College opened for the 2006 school year and grew quickly into one of the southside's big campuses, teaching around 2,590 students from Prep through Year 12 with close to 200 teachers. For a suburb that had no school of its own within living memory, going from zero to a full college in one step says how fast this corner of Brisbane filled with families.
In 1922 the army mapped this suburb and found four houses.
Late-built suburbs mean newer homes with hard floors, and hard floors mean good rugs doing real work. When they dull down, the colour is usually still there under the grit. A proper wash brings it back.
Stretton stayed farmland longer than almost any of its neighbours. The 1861 agricultural reserve running down from Eight Mile Plains put the land under timber-getters and then farmers, and the 1922 military survey map shows just four houses standing here. The change came late and fast: acreage estates from the 1980s and 1990s, then the larger homes that now make Stretton one of the southside's most sought-after addresses.

Stretton questions, answered straight
How much does rug cleaning in Stretton cost?
The rug itself sets the price through its size, fibre and state, so inspection comes before any figure exists. From that point the quote is fixed, pickup and delivery are included on the southside run, and a piece that does not justify professional washing gets named as such at the inspection rather than after the invoice.
Can you wash a hand knotted silk rug without damaging it?
Yes, provided it is done the slow way. The dyes are tested first, the wash runs at the correct pH for the fibre, and every part of the process happens by hand. Machines are the danger to silk, not water, and no machine touches a fine rug at our facility.
Can a Stretton rug come back faster than the standard week?
Yes. The 48-hour express service is available at additional cost when a settlement, an inspection or a family event will not wait. The standard turnaround is about 7 days, and both finish with the rug completely dry.
A cat urinated on our wool rug. Will the smell ever fully leave?
Yes, because the treatment goes where the urine went. It soaks through to the foundation, so sprays only quieten it between humid spells. Immersion washing flushes the residue out through the backing and an enzyme treatment neutralises the rest. If the dye has been affected, you hear it at the assessment, before any money changes hands.
Do you also collect from Calamvale, Kuraby and Sunnybank Hills?
Yes. One scheduled southside run covers Stretton and its neighbours, so family a few streets over can share the date. Every piece beyond the first is $20 off, which rewards sending the whole household's rugs at once.
Our rug looks dull rather than dirty. Is a wash actually worth it?
Nine times out of ten a wash is the right call, and the tenth time we say so. Dullness is most often months of fine dust sitting through the pile rather than wear, and the colour underneath is intact. An immersion wash lifts the grit out of the foundation and the depth comes back with it.
