A suburb built in fifteen years

Rug washing for Parkinson's first generation of rugs

Everything here arrived at once

Parkinson takes in 8.2 square kilometres roughly 23 kilometres out along the southern side, and the 2021 census put its population at 11,148. What makes it unusual is the timing: almost the entire suburb was built between the mid 1990s and 2008, which means the housing is remarkably consistent. Large brick family homes on curving estate streets, tiled living areas, media rooms, and big rugs doing the soft work in all of them. First owners are still in many of those houses, so a great many of the rugs we collect here were bought new in the 2000s and have been carrying twenty years of family life ever since. Pets are in most yards, parkland dust is on every paw, and the rug takes all of it.

The first estate rugs are turning twenty, and twenty is exactly when the honest answer matters.

Soil or wear, and the difference is everything

Two decades is the point at which a rug either has years left in it or does not, and telling those two situations apart is the useful part of our job rather than the washing. Because fine soil settles at the same rate everywhere, a rug never reads as dirty, only as tired, and all the colour is still down there waiting. Worn pile is a different matter entirely. Fibre that has been walked flat and abraded away cannot be rebuilt by water, by us or by anybody else. Most Parkinson rugs at this age turn out to be the first case, which is good news delivered honestly. Where a rug genuinely falls into the second group, that is said at the assessment and no money changes hands, because charging for a wash that cannot deliver is not a business worth running.

Dry months, then February

Parkinson knows what this corridor's storms can do, and between the big events the ordinary cycle grinds along regardless. Months of dry heat work dust down into the pile, then February humidity arrives and binds the whole accumulation in place. A rug that looks tired and smells faintly musty is holding both of those at the same time, which is why airing a room never fixes it. The soil is at the foundation, well past anything a vacuum reaches, and the smell is a substance inside the fibre rather than something floating above it. Immersion at Yatala clears both of them together, and the drying stage that follows is what makes the result last through a whole summer rather than a month. Rush that part and the rug will tell on you by autumn.

Rug Cleaning Parkinson

Everything a twenty-year-old estate rug needs. Dry material is drawn off first, the piece then goes into the water at Yatala under a pair of hands, and it dries flat before the surface is set.

First owners rarely see the change, because it happened at the rate of about one shade a year while they were living on top of it. What comes out at the foundation is what makes the difference. One inspection produces one figure and that figure is final.

  • Suited to large estate rugs
  • One figure, and it is final
  • At the door again in a week

Rug Washing Parkinson

Full immersion means exactly what it says. All of the rug is beneath the water, hands do the work using a solution chosen for that fibre, and rinsing runs on until nothing further comes away.

Big rugs in tiled rooms hold their soil in the last third of the pile, hard against the foundation, where suction has never managed to reach. That is the whole reason water is used here, and across 29 years no other approach has been needed.

  • Beneath the water, not on it
  • Solution matched to fibre
  • Rinsed until nothing more comes
Most popular

Stain Removal

Something spilled in the media room years ago, a mark by the front door of unknown age, cordial from when the children were small. Fibre and mark are read together before anything is used.

Old marks and fresh marks respond very differently, and a stain that has had two decades to settle sometimes cannot be fully lifted. Testing happens somewhere out of sight on the piece itself, and then you get it plainly: this one goes, this one lightens, this one is now part of the rug.

  • Old and fresh marks differ
  • Tested on a hidden part
  • Set out plainly, either way

Pet Stain and Odour

Most yards along these streets have a dog in them and most of those dogs have had a moment indoors. What landed on the rug carried straight on down and settled in at the base.

That depth is precisely why supermarket products disappoint people. Immersion reaches it and moves the residue away, an enzyme stage takes apart the rest, and a piece going home with no moisture whatsoever in it leaves a humid February nothing to reawaken.

  • It went down and stayed
  • Enzymes take apart the rest
  • February finds nothing there

Odour Removal

Months of dry heat working dust into the pile, then February humidity binding the whole lot in place. A rug that looks tired and smells faintly musty is holding both at once.

Airing the room and vacuuming the surface will not touch it, because that smell is a physical deposit held inside the fibre, not something drifting about the room. The bath takes it into solution, the rinse removes it, and nothing scented is applied to paper over the gap.

  • Holding dust and damp at once
  • Taken into solution and out
  • Nothing scented applied

Rug Spot Cleaning

A single problem area on a rug that is otherwise standing up well does not warrant the full bath. The dye is tested where it sits, the mark is drawn up gradually, and the pile is combed level again.

The instinct to work hard at a spot is what turns a small problem into a permanent one. Pressure widens the mark and crushes the pile beneath it, and that crushed pale area never quite recovers. If local treatment cannot finish it, we say so at the outset.

  • Not everything needs the bath
  • Crushed pile never recovers
  • Said at the outset

Rug Steam Cleaning

Hot water extraction, sensible for machine made pieces: the rug in the media room, the runner along a hallway, the hardwearing synthetic that lives near the back sliding door.

Where construction allows it, steam is fast and inexpensive and it is the right recommendation. Wool and hand knotted rugs belong in the bath instead, so the rug decides and not the invoice, and the reason for any redirection is explained rather than simply charged.

  • Sensible on machine mades
  • Fast and inexpensive
  • The rug decides, not the invoice

Rug Dry Cleaning

Occasionally a test comes back saying no water at all. Where dyes refuse to hold or a foundation has grown fragile, dry compound is pressed down among the fibres by hand and drawn away again carrying the soil.

It is a small part of what happens on our floor, because immersion cleans better on almost everything else. But a real constraint deserves respect instead of an argument, and nothing except a test result ever sends a rug this way.

  • A small part of the work
  • Compound in, soil out again
  • The test result sends it there

Water Damage Restoration

This corridor knows what its summer cells can deliver. Once water gets indoors the rug wears the first of it, and the following two days settle the outcome one way or the other.

Warm damp fibre grows mould in a matter of days, so the question is how quickly the rug can be out and drying under control. Book straight away and tell us the timing, and the piece is read the moment it lands with us, and a verdict reaches you before any cost is agreed.

  • Two days decide it
  • Out and drying quickly
  • Verdict before agreed cost

Mould Rug Cleaning

A wet season under a bed or out in a garage leaves grey bloom behind, along with the musty strip beside a wall in a room where air has never really circulated.

The colony lives in the foundation and what shows on top is a small share of it, so cleaning the surface achieves little beyond scattering spores. An antimicrobial bath removes growth and the soil it feeds on together, and a rug leaving here with no moisture in it cannot host a second attempt.

  • The surface is a small share
  • Growth and food removed
  • No second attempt possible

Rug Moth Treatment

Beneath a bed in the spare room, behind a lounge that has not shifted in a decade, or rolled into a garage after redecorating. Moth grubs need wool and stillness and nothing else at all.

The treatment closes the whole infestation off at once, and the debris departs with the soil in the wash water. Advice on keeping wool safely stored travels home with the rug so nothing else is exposed, and a chewed patch is shown to you instead of folded out of the way.

  • Closed off at every stage
  • Leaves with the soil
  • Chewed areas shown to you

Stain Protection

The optional last step for a clean, fully dried rug. A spill then hesitates before going anywhere at all, and in a house with children that hesitation earns its keep quickly.

On a large rug that has already lasted twenty years and is expected to last twenty more, this is a small cost against a real risk. Colour, texture and the way the pile feels underfoot are all unaffected, and one rescued accident generally justifies it.

  • Optional, and applied last
  • Texture unaffected
  • One rescue justifies it

Three Parkinson stories

An engineer, an empty map and a day of hail

A suburb that existed on paper long before it existed in brick.

Named for a railway engineer

Henry Parkinson's name went on the map in 1972, beside the rail line.

An engineer's name suits a suburb this precisely built. Our process earns the same kind of trust: assessed honestly, washed by hand at Yatala, dried out completely, and back inside about a week.

Bushland until the nineties

The whole suburb went up in barely fifteen years.

A suburb built in fifteen years is now watching its first rugs turn twenty. That is exactly the age at which an honest assessment matters, and you are told plainly whether a bath will bring a rug back before any work begins.

The day it hailed like snow

The 13 October 2011 storm left Parkinson banked with hail.

When storm water gets into a home, the rugs take it first. A rug that has been wet needs full immersion and complete controlled drying rather than a surface treatment, and that is precisely what our facility is set up to do.

Good to know

Parkinson questions from the estate generation

Our rug is about twenty years old. Is it worth washing or should we replace it?

That is the right question to ask at this age, and it is exactly what the assessment answers. If the rug has flattened in colour, the pile is almost certainly intact and full of soil, and it will come back a long way. If the pile itself has worn through in the traffic lanes, washing cannot rebuild it and we will tell you so.

What does washing a large Parkinson rug come to?

The rug sets it: dimensions, fibre, construction and its condition on arrival. Estate rugs tend to be large, which is part of the calculation. One figure comes out of the inspection and stays there, both legs of the trip are already covered by the scheduled day, and nothing is added later.

Is a faster turnaround possible than the usual seven days?

Yes. Where a sale inspection, a family event or a house move refuses to wait, express turnaround inside two days can be arranged at additional cost, against the usual 7 days. Drying is never trimmed for either, because a damp rug undoes the whole wash within a month.

The dog has urinated on the large rug in our living room. Can that be removed properly?

Yes, as long as the work goes down as far as the urine did. Surface products never make that distance, which is why a spray buys a few weeks before humid weather undoes it. Under water the residue leaves the rug, enzymes settle the remainder, and a bone-dry piece has nothing left to bring back.

Do you also collect from Algester, Calamvale and Drewvale?

Yes, and Pallara and Larapinta with them. All of it happens across one scheduled day out this way, so relatives or neighbours nearby can share a single booking. There is $20 off each subsequent rug in that collection.

A storm left water through our house. How quickly do you need the rug?

As soon as you can manage it. Warm damp fibre begins growing mould inside a few days in this climate, so the gap between a wet rug and a mouldy rug is short. Book straight away and let us know how long it stayed wet. The rug is looked at on the day it arrives and the verdict follows before anything is agreed.
