An agricultural reserve of 5,500 acres was declared over the plains in 1864, the first school followed in June 1869, and the flat farm country carried crops for a century before the estates arrived. Even the local pub keeps the long view: a licence was taken on the Logan Road corner in 1865, though the hotel's own promotion says 1863, and from 1875 coach horses were changed there on the southern road.
