A quote that respects what the rug is
Some rugs deserve the full treatment and some do not, and with inherited pieces the difference matters. Send the size and story through, we inspect it properly, and the quote you get reflects what the rug actually needs rather than what we could charge.

The shaggy rug was too noticeable in the entry to ignore any longer. The shaggy rug came back fresher, softer and ready to use again in the front room.

Rug Washing Norman Park: Old Floors, Older Rugs
Prime Queenslander country
Norman Park is prime Queenslander country, barely 4 km from the city: high-set timber homes with verandahs and hoop pine floors on the slopes, interwar bungalows below them, and a renovation market that has run hot for twenty years. Farmers worked the creek flats here from the 1850s, the Norman Park Estate went to auction in 1887, and the suburb filled out once the low ground was drained between the wars.
Rugs with provenance
The rugs match the houses. Large wool and Persian pieces chosen to sit on original timber are often the most valuable soft furnishing in the home, and many arrived by inheritance or a posting overseas rather than a showroom. Rugs like that earn a considered wash.
Twenty-nine years of this work has taught us exactly what creek-side living leaves in a rug, and how to take it out again.
The creek in the story
Ours happens at our own Yatala facility, where each piece is inspected, tested and washed by hand in full immersion, then dried under controlled conditions until it is dry to the foundation. Norman Park's setting argues for it too: the creek corridor keeps the low streets damp, the suburb went underwater in 1893 and 1974 and locals have not forgotten, and even an ordinary humid summer loads wool with moisture that air conditioning only disguises.

The Norman Park our truck knows
A heritage school, a rugby institution and the creek that named the suburb.
The heritage-listed 1900 brick school that has taught the suburb for five generations.
School-gate households anchor our Norman Park round: usually one good living room rug under constant family traffic, rolled and waiting on the verandah for the driver.
The school opened on 9 July 1900 with 52 students, a principal and three teachers, on land first cut up as the Norman Park Estate in the 1880s. Its original 1900 brick building still stands alongside a 1915 open-air annexe and two Depression-era brick blocks from 1934, and the core complex joined the Queensland Heritage Register in 2017.
The Tigers' home ground since the late 1940s, sitting right where Norman Park runs into Coorparoo.
Winter Saturdays at Bottomley Park finish with mud in the hallway and grass stains where they should not be, which is to say they finish with work for our wash floor.
Easts Rugby Union formed in 1947 from past students of Brisbane State High and took the Eastern Districts name in 1949. From Bottomley Park, which straddles the boundary between Norman Park and Coorparoo, the Tigers have lifted the Hospital Cup five times and won the Australian Club Championship in 2009 and 2021, with a junior program now fielding more than a thousand players.
The tidal creek behind the suburb's name, first bridged in 1856 and edged with parkland paths today.
We are straight with creek-side owners: a rug that has taken floodwater or long damp needs full immersion washing and controlled drying, and that is precisely the service we run.
Norman Creek carried a bridge as early as 1856, and its flats made this a farming district and then a picnic destination through the 1870s before the houses arrived. The creek draws the suburb's western boundary and its park spine, and it has delivered the suburb's hardest days too, breaking its banks across the low streets in 1893 and again in 1974.

Norman Park rug care, question by question
Is it safe to wash a Persian rug that is decades old?
Generally yes, and old Persians usually respond better than modern machine-made pieces. We test dyes and check the foundation before committing to a wash method, and if a rug is too fragile for immersion we tell you rather than risk it.
Our rug went through damp under the house. Is it recoverable?
Often, if it reaches us before mould establishes deep in the foundation. Norman Park's creek streets produce this question regularly, and the honest answer always starts with an inspection at Yatala.
What will it cost to have our rug washed?
Size, fibre and condition set the price, so we quote after looking rather than guessing over the phone. The number is fixed before washing begins, and an uneconomical wash gets called out as exactly that.
Can rugs from Coorparoo or Camp Hill travel with ours?
Yes. Coorparoo, Camp Hill, Seven Hills and Morningside share the Norman Park collection day, and combining rugs works in your favour: each one past the first is $20 less.
How long are we without the rug, and what if the result disappoints?
Seven days is the standard round trip; a 48-hour express can be arranged for an additional fee. On return you have 48 hours to raise any concern and the rug is washed again without charge.
Dog urine on an inherited Persian: is it a lost cause?
Rarely. Urine has to leave the foundation, and the immersion bath is what carries it out; the odour ends when the deposits go. Old accidents can mark antique dye, so we inspect, test and show you precisely what to expect before the rug is committed to the wash.
