An honest assessment before any rug is washed
Balmoral owners usually know what their rugs are worth, and they ask good questions. Send us the size and fibre, tell us the problem, and we will tell you exactly what a wash will fix, what it will not, and what it costs.

Rug Cleaning in Balmoral, Done the Slow Way
Persians on polished hoop pine
Balmoral holds the high ground of the inner east, and its pre-1946 homes have kept their bones: high-set timber, wide verandahs, polished hoop pine underfoot. Floors like that carry good rugs, hand-knotted Persians in the front rooms and big wool flatweaves where the family actually lives, and we wash more serious pieces per street here than almost anywhere else in Brisbane. People who have spent real money on a rug want it treated as what it is.
What a raised Queenslander does to a rug
The hill that named the old Balmoral Shire still catches the breeze, but a raised Queenslander traps damp air underneath, and fine dust from the under-floor space works up through the boards into rug pile.
A wool rug holding that moisture at the backing is where mould gets its start.
The slow answer, 29 years running
Our answer has not changed in 29 years: complete immersion on the Yatala wash floor, then controlled drying until the backing itself is dry, before the rug goes back on your boards. Dyes are tested before water touches the pile, because a hand-knotted rug deserves the caution its maker built into it.

The Balmoral we drive through every week
Three places that mark out our inner-east collection mornings.
The hilltop park gazetted in 1916, with a WWI memorial avenue of weeping figs and a WWII gun site.
The character homes around Balmoral Park are core territory on our inner-east pickup run, and the weeping figs drop exactly the fine leaf litter that walks inside onto wool rugs.
Balmoral Park has been the suburb's green centrepiece for over a century. It was gazetted for recreation in 1916, a memorial avenue of weeping figs was planted after the First World War, and during the Second World War the hilltop carried an anti-aircraft battery. Today the park holds the Balmoral Bowls Club and the Scout and Guide halls, a tree-covered rise ringed by busy roads and the railway line.
A 1939 concrete water tower on the hill, converted into one of Brisbane's most unusual homes.
Homes with this much design thought put into them tend to hold rugs chosen just as carefully, and Balmoral owners lean on our honest assessment before committing to a wash.
The tower was built in 1939 as one of a series of gravity-fed reservoirs serving the surrounding suburbs, 12 metres high and 22 metres across with walls up to a metre thick at the base. It was decommissioned in the late 1980s, sold to a private buyer, and converted into a residence by architect Robert Riddel's firm. It remains a landmark and a favourite of architecture watchers.
The low-key strip of cafes, salons and stores that serves as Balmoral's daily village.
Our driver collects rolled rugs from the streets off Riding Road most weeks, and the walk-everywhere, dog-at-heel lifestyle here puts steady honest wear into good wool rugs.
Riding Road is the spine that carries locals between Balmoral, Hawthorne and the river, and the Balmoral end holds a handful of popular cafes, salons and lifestyle stores. It is deliberately small-scale, no big anchors, just the places people walk to with the dog before the day starts, which suits a suburb that trades on quiet streets and character homes.

Straight answers for Balmoral rug owners
Can you wash a hand-knotted Persian safely?
Yes, that is the core of what we do. Dyes are tested first, the rug is washed by hand at our Yatala facility, and drying is controlled so the foundation never sits wet. We have handled hand-knotted pieces for 29 years and hold IICRC certification.
Is pickup really free in Balmoral?
It is. The inner-east run comes through most weeks, the driver collects the rug rolled, and delivery back to your door costs nothing either.
My rug smells musty after summer. What is going on?
Almost always damp. Raised timber homes breathe underneath, and humid air held under the house settles into the rug's backing. A complete wash with proper drying removes the smell and the moisture behind it, and we will tell you if mould has gone too deep to fix.
Do you also collect from Hawthorne and Bulimba?
Yes, Balmoral shares its pickup mornings with Bulimba, Hawthorne, Morningside and Norman Park, so the truck is close by most weeks. Book more than one rug and each one after the first is $20 off.
How fast will I get the rug back?
Standard turnaround is about a week. If you have a deadline, a 48 hour express service runs at additional cost, and if anything is not right when the rug comes home, tell us within 48 hours and we rewash it.
A dog accident soaked into the Persian. Is it ruined?
Usually not, if we get to it before the urine sits too long. Urine attacks natural dyes over time, so the sooner the rug reaches the bath the better. Immersion washing removes the source completely, and we check the dyes first and warn you of any risk.
