Bulimba owners tend to know their rugs, where they were knotted, what they cost, what a bad clean would do. Send the size and fibre, tell us the trouble, and we answer with a firm price and an honest opinion, including when a wash is not worth it.

Boats built by hand, rugs washed by hand

Rug Cleaning in Bulimba, the Craft Version

A suburb that respects the trade

Bulimba still builds boats on its riverbank, and that says something about the suburb: it values work done slowly by people who know their trade. The homes here match, pre-1946 timber protected by character rules, polished floors through every room, and rugs bought once and kept for decades. Hand-knotted Persians, kilims, serious wool pieces.

When one of those needs washing, a van with a spray wand is the wrong answer.

The right answer for serious rugs

The right answer is the way we have done it for 29 years: dye testing, dusting, immersion washing at Yatala, and controlled drying that matters double in Bulimba, because the low ground near the river keeps under-floor air damp most of the year and a wool backing that stays moist will grow mould.

On the inner-east mornings

The driver covers Bulimba, Hawthorne and Balmoral on the same inner-east mornings, so pickup is rarely more than a few days away. The rug travels rolled, and it comes home dry through the foundation, usually inside the standard week.

What we do for Bulimba

Twelve services, one craft underneath

A suburb that still builds boats by hand understands our approach. Each service below runs on the same craft: inspect, quote honestly, wash by hand at Yatala, dry completely.

29 years rug-onlyIICRC certifiedYatala wash facility

Showing all 12 services

Rug Cleaning Bulimba

Cleaning for rugs bought once and kept for decades: hand-knotted Persians, kilims, serious wool pieces on polished pre-1946 floors. Each is assessed on its construction and washed as an individual piece, never batched.

Bulimba owners ask sharper process questions than most, which suits us fine. The answer to nearly all of them is the same: by hand, at our own facility, with the dyes tested first.

  • Never batched, always individual
  • Persians and kilims routine
  • Process questions welcome

Rug Washing Bulimba

Immersion washing at Yatala, the method serious rugs get everywhere in the world. Riverside grit and years of settled dust rinse from the foundation, and the colours come up the way the weaver intended.

The inner-east mornings cover Bulimba, so the logistics are simple: rolled at your door, logged by the driver, and usually home again within the standard week.

  • The world-standard method
  • Colours revived, not stripped
  • Inner-east mornings weekly
Most popular

Stain Removal

Dinner-party wine on the flatweave, coffee dropped on the way to the deck, the slow shadow where the dog naps. Stain work on quality fibre is careful chemistry first, then a complete wash for an even finish.

We treat old and valuable rugs conservatively, because protecting dye and fibre beats chasing a perfect mark. Whatever will not fully lift is named before we start.

  • Careful with fine fibre
  • Wine marks a weekly job
  • Even finish, no bright patch

Pet Stain and Odour

Pets pick the warmest rug in the house, and in Bulimba that is usually the best one. Accidents on wool or silk need the source flushed from the foundation fast, before urine gets to work on the dyes.

The immersion bath removes what sprays only mask, and the rug dries right through so the odour has nothing to restart from. Dye risk is assessed and explained first.

  • Fast action protects dyes
  • Foundation flushed clean
  • Nothing left to smell later

Odour Removal

The earthy smell under the couch is Bulimba's river ground talking. Low-lying blocks keep under-floor air damp, the backing absorbs it, and the smell arrives by stealth. A full wash with complete drying resets the rug.

If the smell keeps returning each summer, the rug has never been truly dry. Controlled drying at Yatala finishes what a breezy verandah cannot.

  • River-damp smell removed
  • Backing dried completely
  • A reset, not a masking

Rug Spot Cleaning

A single fresh mark can often be treated on its own, and on a well-kept rug that is the sensible first step. Where spot work would leave a clean island on a dusty rug, we say so and let you choose.

Fresh is everything with spots on natural fibre. Send a photo the day it happens and the odds move firmly in your favour.

  • Sensible first step
  • Photo the mark early
  • Your call, fully informed

Rug Steam Cleaning

Steam extraction has its place, and that place is not a hand-knotted rug with vegetable dyes. We use it on hardy synthetics where it works well, and protect everything else with the immersion method.

If a cleaner offers to steam your Persian in the driveway, close the door. Construction dictates method, and the inspection sorts that out per rug.

  • Right tool, right rug
  • Synthetics only
  • Persians go to the bath

Rug Dry Cleaning

Silk, viscose and antique pieces with fragile dyes get low-moisture care that lifts soil without asking delicate fibre to survive a soaking. Slower, more manual, and the only responsible route for some rugs.

Bulimba's collections include genuinely old pieces, and age changes the rules. The inspection decides, and we explain the reasoning in plain terms.

  • Silk and antiques protected
  • Low moisture, high care
  • Reasoning explained plainly

Water Damage Restoration

Storm water finds low riverside ground, and a soaked rug starts losing colour and growing mould within days. Called early, we can dry, wash and dry again in the sequence that saves it.

Wet wool should never be rolled and left, and never dried flat on concrete. Ring first, we will tell you exactly what to do before the driver arrives.

  • Ring before you improvise
  • Sequence saves the colours
  • Days matter, not weeks

Mould Rug Cleaning

Bulimba's low ground makes rug mould more common than owners expect. Caught while it sits in the fibre, it washes out fully. Once it reaches deep into the foundation, we tell you honestly what is left to save.

After washing, the rug dries until the backing itself is dry, because returning a clean rug to the same damp habit invites the same mould back.

  • Common on the low ground
  • Early growth fully washable
  • Honest verdicts, always

Rug Moth Treatment

Moths love a quiet wool rug in a formal room, and character homes have those rooms. Treatment plus a full wash removes activity, eggs and residue, and the rug returns protected and safe to keep down.

If a rug has been stored in a cupboard between houses or renovations, have it checked before it goes back on the floor. Ten minutes of inspection beats a season of grazing.

  • Formal rooms at risk
  • Checked before re-laying
  • Removed at every stage

Stain Protection

An even protectant coat after washing keeps the next spill sitting on the fibre where a cloth can catch it. On pale wool in an entertaining room, that pause is the whole game.

Protection does not change the hand or look of good fibre. It is quiet insurance, and the rugs that host the most dinners appreciate it most.

  • A pause to reach the cloth
  • Look and feel unchanged
  • Best on entertaining rugs

The working river history on our route

Three sites that tell Bulimba's story, all inside our weekly collection area.

Bulimba Memorial Park

The heritage-listed park on Oxford Street, opened in 1919 for Bulimba's WWI servicemen and women.

The Queenslanders around the Memorial Park are the core of our Bulimba pickup work, streets where a good wool rug on polished boards is standard furnishing rather than a luxury.

Bulimba Barracks and HMAS Moreton

The Apollo Road defence site, from 1880s candle works to WWII barge depot to navy base.

The barracks end of Bulimba is turning into new riverside homes on our existing weekly run, and new floors plus old river damp is exactly when a properly washed rug matters.

Norman R Wright & Sons shipyard

The family shipyard building Brisbane's boats on the Bulimba riverbank since the 1930s.

A suburb that still values proper craft done by hand understands what happens on our wash floor: rugs washed individually by people who have done one thing for 29 years.

Good to know

Bulimba rug owners usually ask

Why hand washing instead of steam cleaning?

Steam machines are built for wall-to-wall carpet, not for a hand-knotted rug with vegetable dyes and a cotton foundation. Immersion washing controls water, chemistry and drying at every step, which is why serious rugs are washed this way everywhere in the world.

Is it safe to send away a rug worth thousands?

That is our everyday work. The driver logs the rolled rug at pickup, it is washed individually at our Yatala facility by IICRC-certified hands, and it comes home usually within seven days. We have been trusted with valuable pieces for 29 years.

The rug smells earthy under the couch. Mould?

Possibly, and Bulimba's low riverside ground makes it more common than people expect. Caught early, mould washes out. We inspect it, tell you exactly how far it has gone, and quote only if a wash will genuinely fix it.

Do you cover Hawthorne and Norman Park as well?

Yes, both share Bulimba's collection mornings, along with Balmoral and Morningside. It is one run, so add a second rug from anywhere on it and take $20 off that rug and every one after.

What does it cost to wash a Persian?

Every Persian is different, so the price comes from the inspection: construction, dyes, size and what the rug has been through. The number we give you is firm, costs nothing to get, and comes with a straight recommendation, wash or not.

The cat had an accident on the kilim. Can that come out?

Almost always, and a kilim is worth the effort. Urine has to be flushed from the foundation, not blotted at the surface, which is exactly what full immersion does. We dye-test first because urine and some dyes are a bad mix, then wash the source out.
