A firm price for the rug the house came with

Every Coorparoo rug is inspected before a price is set, because a 1970s Kashan and a flat-woven kilim are different jobs. If washing is not in the rug's interest, we will say so and hand it straight back.

Old suburb, older rugs

Rug Washing Coorparoo, for the Homes That Kept Their Floors

A shire's worth of character homes

Coorparoo ran its own shire council from 1892 until Greater Brisbane absorbed it in 1925, and the housing still reads that age: Queenslanders on the ridges, California bungalows off Cavendish Road, post-war brick in the gullies and new apartments around Coorparoo Square.

Polished timber floors are nearly universal in the older stock, and on those floors sit more genuine Persian and vintage wool rugs per street than almost anywhere else we collect.

Rugs that arrived with the house

Many arrived with the house. Rugs in this class are the reason we still wash by hand after 29 years. At the Yatala facility each piece is dusted, dye-tested and immersion washed with methods matched to its construction, then dried under controlled airflow so the foundation dries as thoroughly as the pile.

Humidity, shade and uneven wear

Inner-Brisbane humidity settles into wool overnight through summer, and old homes shade their floors unevenly, so a proper wash also evens out the soiling patterns a Coorparoo rug collects. The M1 does the commuting, and your rug is back in about 7 days.

Rug Cleaning Coorparoo

Cleaning matched to the age of the rug and the home around it. Coorparoo hands us more genuine Persian and vintage wool than nearly any suburb, and the method respects that.

A rug that arrived with the house deserves better than a rented machine. We treat each piece as the individual it has become over the decades.

  • Vintage wool a specialty
  • Individual treatment plans
  • Respect for provenance

Rug Washing Coorparoo

Full immersion washing at Yatala, dye-tested first, dried under control. It is the wash Queenslander owners choose once they understand what surface cleaning leaves behind.

Coorparoo to Yatala is motorway nearly the entire way. Collected one week, back on the boards well inside the next.

  • Dye-tested before wet
  • Motorway door to door
  • Back inside the week
Most popular

Stain Removal

Tannin rings from tea, wine edges, the ghost of a party from years back. Stain work on vintage rugs is slow chemistry, tested on a hidden corner before it touches the visible one.

Some marks on old wool have become part of the rug. We tell you which ones those are before you spend anything.

  • Slow, tested chemistry
  • Hidden-corner trials first
  • Truth about old marks

Pet Stain and Odour

Cats and dogs in character homes choose the best rug every time. Urine reaches the foundation within minutes, and only a full wash reaches it there.

We flush the deposits out of the weave, neutralise the odour at its source and dry the rug through. Dye risk from old accidents is assessed and explained first.

  • Foundation-deep removal
  • Dye risk explained
  • Dried right through

Odour Removal

That closed-in smell in an older home usually lives in the rug, not the walls. Years of absorbed humidity leave in one immersion bath.

Coorparoo's ridge-and-gully streets shade floors unevenly, and rugs absorb at different rates room by room. Washing takes them all back to the same neutral.

  • The rug, not the walls
  • Absorbed years released
  • Back to neutral

Rug Spot Cleaning

One fresh stain does not automatically call for the full bath. Where isolated treatment will honestly do, that is what we quote.

Photograph the mark and the rug's label if it has one. Two photos usually get you a straight answer fast.

  • Honest triage
  • Two photos help
  • Straight answers fast

Rug Steam Cleaning

Steam extraction is right for the synthetic rugs in Coorparoo Square's newer apartments. The Persians and vintage pieces never see it; they are hand-wash territory.

One household often runs both kinds. The inspection splits the fleet and each rug takes its correct path.

  • Right for apartment synthetics
  • Never for the Persians
  • Each rug its path

Rug Dry Cleaning

Viscose and bamboo-silk pieces need cleaning without saturation. Low-moisture methods lift the soil while the fibre keeps its structure and sheen.

These rugs punish enthusiasm and reward restraint. Ours is a restrained process by design.

  • Saturation avoided
  • Sheen preserved
  • Restraint by design

Water Damage Restoration

Storm water through a Queenslander's floorboards soaks rugs from below, and gully streets see it first. Fast action saves most soaked pieces.

Get the rug up, rolled and off the boards, then call. Days matter far more than products do.

  • Soaked from below
  • Up, rolled, off the boards
  • Days matter most

Mould Rug Cleaning

Mould on a vintage rug is urgent because the growth feeds on the fibre itself. Early bloom washes out completely with the right sequence of treatment and drying.

Under-house storage is the usual culprit here. If a rolled rug has wintered under the Queenslander, unroll it and look before summer does.

  • Growth feeds on fibre
  • Early bloom removable
  • Check under-house storage

Rug Moth Treatment

Moth grubs eat wool in the quiet rooms, under furniture that never moves. Treatment ends the activity and the wash removes every stage of the lifecycle.

Inherited rugs that came out of storage deserve a precautionary look. Bring the history and we will read the rug against it.

  • Quiet rooms, hungry grubs
  • Lifecycle fully removed
  • Storage history read

Stain Protection

After the wash, protection buys reaction time against the next spill on pale vintage pile. It sits invisibly in the fibre and earns its keep at the first accident.

Most useful on the rugs that host the entertaining. The formal-room Persian usually needs the wash more than the shield.

  • Reaction time bought
  • Invisible in the fibre
  • For the entertaining rugs

Coorparoo keeps its history

Three corners of a suburb that saved its landmarks

Our inner-east run passes all three more weeks than not.

Coorparoo Square

The cinema and dining precinct on the site of Queensland's first Myer store.

Square-side apartments and the renovated homes behind them book us steadily, and a rolled rug handed over in a lobby is the easiest pickup our driver makes.

Villanova College

The Augustinian boys' school on Sixth Avenue, at Coorparoo since 1954.

The school-run households that fill these streets run their timber floors hard, and the family rugs that soak up that traffic are our regular Coorparoo cargo.

Coorparoo School of Arts and RSL Memorial Hall

The 1892 shire hall on Cavendish Road, still standing and still busy.

A suburb that never knocked down its 1892 hall does not throw out its grandmother's rug either, and around Cavendish Road we wash some of the finest old wool in Brisbane.

A better cowhide rug after red wine spill in Coorparoo
A red wine spill on the cowhide rug looked awful against the lighter pattern. They were honest about what might remain, but the mark is barely noticeable now. The Coorparoo pickup was handled well.

Good to know

Persian rug questions from Coorparoo

Will washing fade my Persian rug?

Not when it is done correctly. We test every dye before washing and adjust the process to the rug. Fading comes from sun and harsh chemistry, not from a careful hand wash, and most Persians leave our floor visibly richer in colour because years of grey dust are gone.

Steam cleaners quote much less. What is the difference?

A steam machine works the surface of the pile in your lounge room. We remove the rug, beat the dry soil out, wash it through in full immersion at Yatala, rinse, and dry it under control. One is maintenance; the other is the reset a good rug needs every few years.

How much does pickup cost from Coorparoo?

Nothing. Collection happens on the inner-east run, the rug travels rolled, and redelivery is free as well. It is part of the service, not an extra.

Do you take rugs from Camp Hill and Norman Park too?

Both, plus Greenslopes and Holland Park nearby. Rugs from the same street or family collected together each earn the $20 multi-rug discount after the first.

How quickly will I have the rug back?

Standard turnaround is 7 days. If there is a deadline, ask about the 48-hour express option, which carries an additional cost.

A cat has been marking the vintage rug. Is it saveable?

Usually, yes. Cat urine is concentrated and hard on old dyes, so we dye-test before committing, then flush the deposits out of the foundation in the immersion bath rather than masking them. You get a plain answer about any staining that will remain before we wash.
