Tingalpa's name is usually translated as the place of fat, meaning a place of plenty, and the land lived up to it: dairy cattle, sugar cane and clay for the brickworks all came off these flats before the houses and warehouses did. Today the suburb splits its effort, a working industrial estate across the northern half and post-war brick and timber homes on flat, generous blocks through the rest, with plenty of tradies among the owners.
The 1873 school up the road was paid for by local farmers who wanted the job done right the first time, and that remains the operating principle here.

When locals hand us that rug, it goes up the on-ramp at the Wynnum Road interchange and is at our Yatala facility about 30 minutes later, where it gets what we have given every rug for 29 years: a full immersion hand wash to IICRC standard, a complete rinse, and controlled drying until it is dry through the backing. The pioneer chapel on Wynnum Road has been kept immaculate by volunteers for decades; keeping good things going is a local habit, and it is also our entire trade.

Three Tingalpa institutions, 150 years apart
The suburb keeps its pioneer history and its weekend chaos within a few streets of each other.
The heritage-listed 1886 timber chapel and God's Acre burial ground on Wynnum Road, in use since 1868.
Tingalpa's pioneer families are buried in their own suburb and their descendants still live here, which is why inherited wool rugs turn up regularly on our Tingalpa pickups.
The first Christ Church rose here in 1868 to a Richard Suter design, was destroyed by the cyclone of December 1885, and was rebuilt in 1886 as the chapel still standing at 1341 Wynnum Road. God's Acre beside it holds more than 300 graves dating from 1868, the first belonging to Susannah Weedon of Cannon Hill. Heritage listed in 1998, the chapel now hosts weddings, and volunteers have kept the grounds immaculate since 2002.
Teaching since 1 August 1873, on two acres the farming community bought with its own money.
A school the farmers paid for themselves tells you how this suburb judges value, and it is the judgement we invite: one proper wash beats three cheap ones and costs less than replacing the rug.
Local farmer W. Wood wrote to the Board of Education in 1870 asking for a school, and the community raised the funds itself, buying two acres at 1546 Wynnum Road. The school opened under head teacher Bernard McGouran with 50 pupils and nearly doubled within a year; a new building followed in 1923. It remains the suburb's oldest working institution.

What if the finished job is not up to scratch?
Flag it inside 48 hours of the rug getting home and it goes around again at our cost. Twenty-nine years in, that promise still costs us almost nothing, because the first wash is done properly.
Puppy accidents on the lounge rug. Can the smell be fixed for good?
Almost always. Urine settles into the base of the rug where no spray or scrub reaches, which is why the smell keeps winning on muggy days. Immersion washing removes the source itself. If the accident has damaged dye or backing beyond a wash, we tell you straight at the inspection instead of taking the job.
