Gumdale answered to Mossdale and then Grassdale before a postal clash in 1942 saw the schoolchildren asked for a new name, and theirs stuck. The suburb has guarded its scale ever since: half-acre blocks and bigger along New Cleveland Road, large single-storey family homes set well back, a fading fringe of old farmhouses, and no shopping centre to speak of.

Our answer is the same for both, a top-to-bottom immersion wash at the Yatala facility, half an hour away through Capalaba, with controlled drying before the rug travels home. Collection is free, the driver takes the rug rolled from the verandah, and most Gumdale jobs are two or three rugs at a time.

Pet Stain and Odour
Gumdale keeps more dogs per household than nearly anywhere in Brisbane, and the rugs prove it. Urine, hair and coat oil come out at the foundation in a full immersion wash.
A suburb with its own pet resort understands the problem. The fix is flushing the source out of the weave, then drying deep enough that no smell wakes in February.

Odour Removal

Rug Dry Cleaning
Delicate viscose and silk-mix rugs are cleaned low-moisture, soil lifted while the fibre is spared. Not common on acreage, but we see them, and they get their own method.
Usually it is one special piece among the workhorses. It travels in the same pickup and comes back by its own gentler road.

Water Damage Restoration
Tank overflows, pump failures and February cells all end the same way, water across a floor and a rug soaked through. Reached inside a few days, most survive complete.

Mould Rug Cleaning
A rolled spare in the shed is Gumdale's classic mould case. Fresh growth lifts out of the fibre completely; advanced growth gets an honest verdict instead of a promise.

Rug Moth Treatment
Moths find the quiet ends of big rugs under furniture that never shifts. Treatment stops the activity and the full wash takes out eggs, grubs and residue.

A suburb without a shopping centre still has its gathering points, and our run passes each.
Opened in 1935 as Grassdale State School with two rooms and 32 pupils, and the reason the suburb has its name.
The school gate is where Gumdale's acreage families intersect, and their wide-set homes along the road are where our driver collects the biggest multi-rug pickups on this run.
Locals lobbied for a school through the early 1930s and won it on 26 August 1935. Seven years later, when the district needed a new name, the headmaster put the question to his pupils, and Gumdale was the winning suggestion. The school still occupies almost seven hectares at 677 New Cleveland Road, one of the roomiest primary campuses in Brisbane.

Swim-season households know the routine of wet towels and dripping feet across the lounge floor, and that half-year of moisture traffic is precisely what we wash out of Gumdale rugs.
The Plantation gives Gumdale learn-to-swim classes and lap lanes without a drive to Chandler or the bayside, set among the big blocks like everything else here. In a suburb with no mall and no strip, the pool is one of the few places the whole district crosses paths in a single afternoon.

Our main rug is huge. Can you even take it?
Almost certainly. Oversized rugs are normal work for us, and where a piece genuinely needs two lifters, a two-person crew is available on request for an extra charge. It travels rolled in the van like everything else.
What does pickup cost this far out?
Nothing, because Gumdale is not far out for us. New Cleveland Road sits directly on our eastern run between Capalaba and the Tingalpa end, so collection and redelivery are free.
Can the dog smell really come out of wool?
In most cases, completely. The smell survives home treatment because it sits far below the surface, down in the base of the weave. Full immersion washing flushes it out. Where urine has attacked dye or backing, we tell you the truth about what is recoverable first.
Do you do Wakerley and Ransome on the same run?
Yes, along with Tingalpa, Belmont and Chandler on the same stretch. Neighbouring households sometimes line their collections up for the same day, which suits everyone's scheduling.
When do I get the rug back?
