An honest quote for the town centre and the hill
Whether the rug came from a cottage, a letting unit or behind a counter, the process is the same: inspect it, name one figure, and hold to that figure.

Rug washing Caloundra, on the headland town's own streets
The town the rest of the group grew around
Caloundra is the southern Sunshine Coast's original township and the suburb this whole group is named after, sitting about ninety kilometres north of Brisbane on the headland between the open sea and Pumicestone Passage. The suburb proper, as distinct from the wider district, centres on the Bulcock Street shopping precinct a short walk back from the passage foreshore. Kings Beach, Shelly Beach, Moffat Beach, Dicky Beach, Battery Hill, Golden Beach, Caloundra West and Aroona ring the town centre on every side, all members of the same group and all collected on the same scheduled run. For a rug washer that central position is genuinely useful, because everything on the loop passes through here on collection day. It also means this page has to stay off a good deal of material that belongs to the beaches around it, and it does. What is left is the town itself: the survey, the street and the racecourse out on Caloundra Road.
Work out what is actually in front of you first, then do the job properly. That is how the town was surveyed too.
Four kinds of rug on one street plan
The town centre mixes older Queenslander-style cottages on the hill behind Bulcock Street with unit blocks from every decade since the 1960s boom, holiday letting stock sitting alongside owner-occupied homes, and a CBD apartment scene that has grown steadily as the town filled in. The rugs follow that exactly. Long-held family pieces come out of the older cottages, newer fit-outs come out of the apartments, letting-stock rugs come through with heavy seasonal turnover and no history attached, and the shopfront businesses along Bulcock Street add their own commercial matting and entry mats to the list. Four different jobs, one collection day, and no shortcut that works across all of them. Each piece is assessed on what it is rather than on what the address suggests.
Salt from two directions at once
Sitting on a headland with open sea on one side and the calmer passage water on the other, the town centre takes salt air from both directions on most days of the year. The pattern then splits by elevation. The older Queenslanders on the hill catch the breeze and dry out quickly, so their rugs carry salt but not much trapped damp. The lower streets and the shaded units nearer Bulcock Street hold humidity for far longer, and that is where the musty note and the mould risk sit. A full immersion wash handles both patterns the same way, flushing salt and moisture out of the base of the pile, and the piece is then finished in a controlled drying room rather than in whichever room it came from.

Premier Rug Cleaning Sunshine Coast
There is no shopfront in town to bring a rug to. The Sunshine Coast listing describes the area we work across, the driver comes to your street, and all of the washing happens at Yatala.
Out of town and onto the wash floor
That is our drive, not yours, and it does not change the terms. Caloundra anchors the run day that also takes in Kings Beach and Golden Beach, with the window confirmed once the day is set.
A land purchase, a Sunday market and a racecourse on a paddock
A town that was surveyed carefully and has grown to that plan ever since.
Robert Bulcock bought 277 acres here in 1875, and the first allotments were auctioned on 28 August 1883.
A town built from one family's purchase and a careful survey rather than from random growth runs on the same principle we apply to a rug: work out what is actually there first, then do the job properly.
Robert Bulcock purchased 277 acres of what would become central Caloundra in 1875, and the government surveyed the township through the 1870s, with the first allotments auctioned on 28 August 1883. In 1917 Bulcock's son subdivided a further 404 lots, and those land sales shaped the streets running down toward the water today. The town's own name comes from the Gubbi Gubbi language, most likely from Cullowundoor, combining words for beech tree and place.
The Caloundra Street Fair has filled Bulcock Street with more than 120 stalls every Sunday since 2002.
A main street that fills every single week is a community that shows up consistently, which is exactly what we aim to be for a Caloundra household with a rug that needs looking after.
Bulcock Street and its side streets carry the bulk of Caloundra's shops, cafes and cinemas, and every Sunday since 2002 the Caloundra Street Fair has closed two blocks of the fig-tree-lined street for the Sunshine Coast's largest weekly street market. It is run by the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce and carries more than 120 stalls of local food, produce and crafts, drawing the same stallholders and the same regulars week after week rather than working as a one-off event.
Corbould Park held its first race meeting on 25 July 1985, the first major Queensland course outside Brisbane in over fifty years.
A venue that turned one grazier's paddock into a fixture on the state racing calendar shows what steady, well-planned work does over decades. It is the same patience that goes into a rug washed by hand rather than rushed.
Land facing Caloundra Road owned by the grazier Edward Corbould was identified as a potential site, a contract was signed in February 1980, and the Sunshine Coast Turf Club held its first race meeting at Corbould Park on 25 July 1985, drawing a crowd of 14,000. It was the first major racecourse built outside greater Brisbane in more than fifty years, and the venue has since added an all-weather synthetic track and a lighting upgrade allowing meetings to run after dark.

Caloundra questions, answered plainly
Do you handle commercial matting as well as household rugs?
Yes. Shopfront entry mats and runners from Bulcock Street businesses go through on the same collection as household pieces, though usually by a different method, since matting is machine made and suits hot water extraction. It is quoted the same way: looked at first, one figure, no movement afterwards.
How is the price for a Caloundra rug worked out?
From the rug rather than from the postcode. What it is made of, how large it is and what state it turned up in decide the number. It is set at inspection with both driver trips counted inside it, and it does not move afterwards. Where a wash will not repay itself, we say so rather than quietly taking the work on.
We let the unit out. Can a rug be turned around between bookings?
That is a large part of what we do here. Standard turnaround is about 7 days and a 48-hour express service is available at additional cost for a tight changeover. Tell us the booking date at the outset and the collection is scheduled backwards from it rather than forwards from the call.
The dog urinated on the rug in our apartment. Can it be fixed?
Usually, and in a unit it tends to get reported early, which helps a great deal. Urine reaches the backing on the first day and stays there, so surface products never touch the cause. Immersion clears that layer, enzymes handle the chemistry, and any colour loss is explained at the assessment.
Do you also collect from Kings Beach, Golden Beach and Moffat Beach?
Yes, along with Shelly Beach, Dicky Beach and Caloundra West on the same scheduled day. Neighbours or a household with rugs at two addresses can send them on one collection, and every rug after the first is $20 off.
Our cottage rug has been on the hill for forty years. Is it worth it?
Frequently yes, and that is the question this town asks us most. Old wool that has been kept reasonably well usually has a lot left in it, and the inspection tells you what a wash brings back and what four decades on a headland have taken permanently. You get both halves of that answer.
