Round Mountain borders Bogangar and Hastings Point directly and sits inside the same wider cluster as Kings Forest, Cabarita Beach and Tanglewood, which puts it at a genuine junction between the coastal strip and the farming country behind it. Practically that means residents are close enough to the beach towns for daily errands while keeping rural blocks and a quieter road. For our work the consequence is a particular kind of rug. Houses that have not changed hands in a long time tend to hold wool that came in with the family and has been on a timber or tiled floor ever since, walked over daily, vacuumed weekly and never once washed. Being this close to the beach, does salt actually do damage?
It does, but not the way people expect. Salt is not abrasive, it is absorbent, so it holds moisture in the wool and keeps a rug slightly damp long after a room has dried. That is what produces the closed-in smell and eventually the growth. A full wash removes the salt itself, which is why rinsing properly matters here more than anywhere inland.
