A figure that holds, and no guessing beforehand
Large coastal rugs are the easiest thing in this trade to underquote and then revise upward. We do not work that way. The rug is opened out, read, and priced once. That number is what you pay, and if a wash will not achieve what you are hoping for, we say that instead.

Rug washing Casuarina, in the middle of the coastal loop
Drawn first, lived in second
Casuarina was released as a purpose-planned beachside housing estate in 2002 on a stretch of coast that had been open land before it. That order of events, the plan first and the houses afterward, is unusual on the Tweed and it shows in the place. The streets and lots were laid out from the outset for the way people actually wanted to live on this coast, with large beach houses alongside holiday and residential resorts, and Casuarina Public School arrived with the estate rather than being retrofitted into it years later. The population reached 3,256 at the 2021 census at a median age of 41, which makes this one of the larger settled communities on the coastal strip rather than a holiday enclave that empties in winter.
A house that was designed rather than accumulated still fills up with rugs nobody planned for, and that is where we come in.
Hard floors, and the rug doing all the work
Planned coastal housing means tiles and timber rather than wall-to-wall carpet, which changes what a rug is for. It is no longer decoration laid over something soft; it is the soft thing. It defines the living area, absorbs the traffic, catches the sand and takes every spill that happens in the middle of the house. A rug in that position ages at a rate that surprises people who bought it four years ago and have vacuumed it faithfully ever since. Vacuuming is not the problem, it is simply not enough: it reaches the upper part of the pile and leaves the sand at the base, which is where the wear actually happens. Nothing short of immersion gets that out, which is the honest reason these rugs need to leave the house occasionally.
Salt in the air, sand in everything
Being this close to open water puts two things into a house continuously. Salt arrives on the air and settles into everything textile, where it holds moisture against the fibre and keeps a rug slightly damp even in dry weather. Sand arrives on feet, on dogs and on towels, and works downward until it reaches the knots. The two together are worse than either alone, because damp fibre grips sand and holds it in place. What that produces over a few seasons is a rug that looks flat rather than dirty, and whose owner assumes it has simply worn out. Very often it has not. A bath removes the salt and the sand at once and returns colour everybody had given up on, and the honest assessment tells you in advance whether yours is that kind of rug or genuinely finished.

A service area listing rather than premises you can visit. It shows the coast we cover, a driver comes to the house, and the wash itself happens in Queensland.
North up the coast road
The driving belongs to us and does not reach your quote. Casuarina is collected alongside Kingscliff and Cudgen, and the window is confirmed once the coastal day is set.
A 2002 release, a school that came with it and a place in the middle of the run
A coastal suburb that was designed as a whole rather than grown a street at a time.
Casuarina was released as a purpose-planned beachside housing estate in 2002, with large beach houses alongside holiday and residential resorts on a stretch of coast that had been open land.
A suburb built to a plan still fills with the same wool and designer pieces our hand wash process is built for, and they arrive with sand in them like everywhere else.
The settled, master-planned character sets it apart from the older organic river towns further inland, since the streets and lots were laid out from the outset for the coastal living the area is now known for rather than adapted to it afterwards.
Casuarina Public School anchors a genuinely family-oriented stretch of the coast, alongside the older established schooling options in nearby Kingscliff.
A family suburb means rugs in daily use, sand, spills and all, which is quite different from a holiday strip where a rug sits untouched for months.
That infrastructure arriving with the estate's 2002 release rather than years afterward reflects a place built from the outset for young families as much as for holiday buyers, which is why the suburb does not empty out in winter.
The population reached 3,256 at the 2021 census at a median age of 41, making Casuarina one of the larger settled communities on the Tweed Coast strip.
Being mid-run means a Casuarina rug goes down and comes home on an ordinary schedule rather than requiring a trip arranged around it.
Bordered by Cudgen, Kingscliff, Kings Forest, Tanglewood and Cabarita Beach, the suburb sits at the centre of our coastal loop rather than at either end of it, which is a practical advantage rather than a description.

The ones we get most often from Casuarina
The rug is enormous. Is that a problem?
No. Large open plan pieces are routine for us and they are washed whole rather than in sections, which is the only way to get an even result. Size affects the figure because it affects the bath time and the drying space, but it does not affect whether we will take it on.
What actually sets the price?
Fibre, construction, size and condition. The figure is set with the rug opened out in front of us and it does not move afterwards. The drive down the coast road is ours to make and it is not part of the number.
We vacuum it twice a week and it still looks flat. Why?
Because vacuuming reaches the top of a pile and the sand lives at the bottom of it. That sand is what dulls the colour and cuts the fibre, and it does not come up under suction. A bath floats it out. Most people are surprised by how much colour comes back, and the inspection will tell you in advance whether yours is likely to.
The dog comes in off the beach onto the rug. Can that be dealt with?
Yes, and it is one of the more satisfying jobs on this strip. Damp fur carries salt and sand down into the pile where they hold moisture against the fibre. Immersion clears all of it in one pass, along with any urine sitting at the base where a spray cannot reach, enzyme work finishes the odour, and controlled drying stops the smell returning.
Do you collect from Kingscliff, Cabarita Beach and Kings Forest as well?
All of them, on the same coastal leg, along with Cudgen and Tanglewood just inland. If neighbours send rugs on the same morning it works better for everyone, and each rug after the first has $20 off applied.
The holiday house is shut for months at a time. What should we do before locking up?
Lift the rug off the tiles if you can, or at minimum roll it loosely rather than leaving it flat against a cold floor. Flat on tiles in a closed house is the exact condition that starts growth. If it already smells when you come back, ring us then rather than waiting for the mark, because at the smell stage a normal wash still fixes it.
