Read at the door, quoted on the spot
Which estate you are in makes no difference to a quote. The driver reads the rug where it lives, gives a single figure, and that is what appears on the invoice at delivery. Where a rug is not worth the money you will hear it said plainly at the same visit.

Rug washing Pottsville, across all four estates
The town changed its name to stop a mix-up
The first house here belonged to Bill Potts and the place was named Potts Point after him, which worked perfectly well until it did not, because Sydney already had a Potts Point and that one was considerably better known. Rather than live with the confusion the town changed its name to Pottsville and the matter was closed. It is a small piece of history and a fairly telling one: a practical place solving a practical problem instead of putting up with it. What followed was growth on a scale that is genuinely unusual. The 1971 census counted 245 residents. The 2021 census counted 7,209, including a jump of 73.9 per cent between 2011 and 2016 alone. That is a town assembled inside a single lifetime.
Two hundred and forty five people in 1971. Seven thousand two hundred and nine in 2021. Same town.
Four estates, each with its own generation of floors
Pottsville was not built all at once and it shows. Pottsville Waters, Koala Beach, Seabreeze and Black Rocks Estate each carry their own character within the one town, and the community is served by two schools, Pottsville Beach Public School and St Ambrose Primary School. For us that variety is the most useful thing to know about the place before arriving. An older beach house from the town's earlier decades holds a completely different sort of rug from a recent build in one of the newer estates, and the advice we give differs accordingly. Wool bought thirty years ago and never washed usually comes back looking like a different object. A recent machine-made piece off a hard-floor living room calls for a franker discussion about what can actually be achieved with it, and the doorstep is the right place for that discussion rather than the delivery.
Salt, sand, and why a coastal rug smells
Living this close to the water puts two things into a rug continuously and neither of them is dirt in the way people picture it. Sand drops through the pile quickly, settles at the base and then acts as an abrasive under every footstep, which is why a beach house rug wears from underneath rather than on the surface. Salt does something else entirely. It is absorbent, so it draws moisture out of coastal air and holds it against the wool, which is exactly why a rug can feel faintly damp in a room that is completely dry and why a musty note appears with no visible cause. Neither responds to surface cleaning. Both come out fully in an immersion wash with a proper rinse, and the drying afterwards is what keeps them out for a season rather than a fortnight.

The listing sets out an area we service rather than a place open to callers. It shows where we work, a driver comes to your door, and every rug is washed at Yatala.
North along the coast road
The distance is on us. Pottsville is collected alongside Hastings Point and Cudgera Creek, and the window is confirmed once that coastal day is booked.
A rename, a lifetime of growth, and four named estates
A coastal town that has done most of its growing inside living memory.
The locality's first house belonged to Bill Potts and the place was originally named Potts Point after him, later becoming Pottsville specifically to end confusion with Sydney's far better known Potts Point.
Straightforward towns tend to want straightforward answers about a rug, which is the only kind we give at an inspection.
That kind of practical, plain-spoken decision making turns up more than once along this stretch of coast, a place solving its own problem rather than living with it.
The population has grown from just 245 in 1971 to 7,209 at the 2021 census, including a particularly sharp jump of 73.9 per cent between 2011 and 2016 alone.
A town that grew this fast holds rugs of every vintage at once, and a brand new piece and a thirty year old one need genuinely different advice.
That growth shows in the town's named estates, Pottsville Waters, Koala Beach, Seabreeze and Black Rocks Estate, and in the two schools now serving the community, Pottsville Beach Public School and St Ambrose Primary School.
Pottsville Waters, Koala Beach, Seabreeze and Black Rocks Estate each carry their own feel within a single town, served by Pottsville Beach Public School and St Ambrose Primary School.
Knowing which estate an address sits in, rather than just the postcode, is what gets a collection and a return done without a phone call.
A coastal town built up estate by estate rather than all at once carries in miniature the same variety of housing stock our facility sees across the whole Tweed Coast.

Pottsville questions, answered straight
Do you cover all the estates or just the older part of town?
All of them. Pottsville Waters, Koala Beach, Seabreeze and Black Rocks are on the same southern coast run, and which estate an address sits in has no effect on the timing or the price. The driver works from the street address.
What sets the cost of a Pottsville rug?
The rug and nothing beyond it. Construction, size, fibre and condition produce the figure between them. Your estate and your street make no difference, and what is quoted at the door is what gets invoiced on delivery.
How often should a rug this close to the beach be washed?
Roughly every eighteen months to two years for anything in a main living area, which is a shorter cycle than an inland house needs, and salt rather than sand is why. The practical test beats the calendar: if the rug feels cool and slightly heavy underfoot in a room that is dry, the salt is doing its work and the rug is due.
One corner has had the dog urinate on it more times than we would like to admit. Anything you can do?
Usually. The urine has gone through the pile into the foundation, under the level any bottled product acts at, which is why the smell keeps returning. Immersion reaches it and takes it out, enzyme work handles the odour compounds, and if the dye beneath has suffered we show you at the assessment.
Do you collect from Hastings Point and Cudgera Creek on the same day?
Both, along with Bogangar, Cabarita Beach and Mooball. If a neighbour has something ready at the same time it makes a better stop for everyone, and there is $20 off on every additional rug in the load.
The rug is in a holiday house we only use sometimes. Anything we should do?
Lift it or roll it before a long empty stretch, and leave a window vented if you safely can. A rug left flat in a closed-up coastal house holds salt and moisture together for months, which is the combination that causes trouble. If it already smells closed-in when you arrive, that is worth a call before the next visit.
