Named after the reserve, not the other way round
Redwood took its name in 1981 from Redwood Park, the 2,243 hectare bushland reserve that dominates this stretch of the city's eastern escarpment. The proportions are worth sitting with. The reserve is 2,243 hectares. The locality named after it is 4.3 square kilometres. So the park is many times the size of the suburb carrying its name, which is why this reads as bushland with a few houses in it rather than a suburb with a park attached to one side. The land itself runs along the ridge of the Great Dividing Range at about 650 metres and falls away to roughly 360 metres at the eastern boundary, a real change in elevation across a short distance. Neighbours are Mount Lofty, Prince Henry Heights, Withcott, East Toowoomba and Rangeville.

The census count went 17 in 2011, then 170 in 2016, then 159 in 2021. That is the smallest population anywhere in this stretch of our research, at roughly 37 people to the square kilometre, and there is no version of it that turns into a growth story. What there is instead is Glen Alpine, a heritage listed villa at 32 to 36 East Street, standing as one of very few substantial residences in a locality otherwise defined by bush. No school operates inside the boundary, so families travel to Withcott State School, Toowoomba East State School or Rangeville State School depending on which way they are heading. Houses like these are exactly where the good wool is. Somebody built a substantial home on a ridge with a view and furnished it accordingly, and the pieces that went onto those floors were generally chosen to last.
Cold, exposed, and what that does to a rug
Redwood gets Toowoomba's winter with the exposure turned up. The city already runs four genuine seasons at seven hundred metres, with July frosts as a matter of routine, and a ridge line adds wind to that. Three things follow for the rugs. Fires and heaters run hard from around May to September, and the fine soot they produce works its way down below the surface of a wool pile where it dulls colour from underneath rather than from above. Wind blown grit arrives from every direction rather than off one street, and it lodges in the weave because a pile holds material much the way a filter does. And rugs pushed against cold external walls collect condensation into the wool repeatedly across the season, which is where growth starts. None of that responds to a vacuum. All of it comes out in a full immersion bath, where the water reaches the bottom of the weave, carries the load off the property entirely, and takes the moth treatment through every part of the rug in the same pass.

Stain Removal
Ash and ember marks near a fireplace, mud off an unsealed driveway, and plant matter walked in from the reserve.
Ash is alkaline and mud is not, so treating the two of them the same way is guaranteed to make one of them worse. Testing separates out what we actually have, treatment is then chosen accordingly, and once the rug has dried you are told which marks went completely, which faded and which are now part of the rug's history.

Pet Stain and Odour
Farm and house dogs that spend the day outside on the slope, and cats that own one warm patch by the fire.
What owners see is a stain and what owners smell is something else entirely, sitting underneath it in the backing where topical products never arrive. The bath deals with both at once because water goes everywhere the deposit went. Enzymes then finish the odour chemistry, and controlled drying stops it reappearing on the first humid day.

Odour Removal

Wood smoke is a physical residue rather than a mood, and it accumulates in a wool pile month by month through the cold season. Rug Spot Cleaning

What ruins a rug is usually the rescue attempt. Pressure drives wool out of its woven direction, spreads the mark past its own boundary and leaves a pale zone that no later work brings back. Rug Moth Treatment

Yes. Redwood sits on the scheduled escarpment day alongside Mount Lofty, Prince Henry Heights and East Toowoomba, so the van is on the ridge anyway. A locality of a hundred and fifty nine people is not a reason to skip it and we have never treated it as one.
How do you set the price for a rug collected here?
Off the piece itself. Its construction, its dimensions and the state the foundation is in produce one figure with both driver trips already inside it. That figure is given once and does not move. Where a wash will not achieve anything worth paying for, we tell you and charge nothing for saying so.
The house is on the ridge and it gets genuinely cold. Does that affect rugs?
It does, in two ways. Fires and heaters run hard for months, and the fine soot from them settles well below the surface of a wool pile. And rugs get pushed against cold external walls, where condensation collects into the wool week after week. Both come out in a bath, neither comes out with a vacuum.
There is dog urine on a wool rug in front of the fire. Can it be sorted?
Nearly always. The visible mark sits in the pile, but the urine itself has gone through to the backing, and no surface product reaches that far down. Immersion takes the source out with the water, enzymes break down the odour chemistry, and controlled drying keeps the problem from returning in humid weather.
