Built to last another decade, not to look new for a week
The point of a proper wash is the ten years after it, not the photograph on the day. That means we go for what is in the base of the weave rather than what shows on top, and we tell you honestly if a rug has reached the end of what washing can do for it. One figure, given after the inspection.

Rug washing South Toowoomba, close in and long settled
A hundred and sixty years in the same streets
St Patrick's Catholic Primary School opened here in 1863 and is still teaching. St Patricks Cathedral stands on James Street. Toowoomba South State School ran from 1865 until it closed on 31 December 2013, which is 148 years of state schooling inside one small suburb, and St Saviour's Primary School and St Saviour's College continue from James Street and Stephen Street today. This is traditional country of the Giabal people, known also as Paiamba or Gomaingguru, a fact worth naming plainly alongside the rest. Toowoomba Hospital sits on Pechey Street and is the city's principal public hospital, Lake Annand supplies open water and parkland within walking distance, and Downs Shopping Centre and City Golf Club cover the everyday. For 3.7 square kilometres holding 5,512 people, that is a remarkable density of long lived institutions, and it shows in the housing.
Anybody can make a rug look good for a fortnight. The question we care about is what it looks like in ten years, and that gets decided in the base of the weave.
Close to town, close to the street, close together
South Toowoomba starts 1.8 kilometres from the CBD and runs into Toowoomba City, Newtown, East Toowoomba, Rangeville, Centenary Heights, Kearneys Spring and Harristown, which is seven neighbours for one small locality. Density sits near 1,490 people to the square kilometre and the count went from 5,224 in 2016 to 5,512 in 2021, so it is still adding households despite having very little land left. What that means practically is short front paths and small yards. Street grit gets walked in with almost no distance to shed it on the way, and unlike household dust that material is angular and heavy, so it drops through the pile and settles at the bottom of the weave. That is where it does its damage, out of sight, working against the fibre every time somebody crosses the room.
Four seasons, and a suburb that closes up for two of them
Toowoomba runs four genuine seasons at seven hundred metres, which is unusual for Queensland and changes what a rug has to put up with. Winter nights come close to zero, July frosts are routine, and heating runs from roughly May through September with the windows shut for the duration. In a compact inner suburb that produces three effects at once. Fine soot from the heating works down into the pile and takes the life out of the colour from beneath, where nobody thinks to look. Anything already held in the weave has nowhere to disperse to, and smaller rooms mean less air to dilute it, so a loaded rug announces itself here sooner than the same rug would in a larger house. And moths get exactly the conditions they need, which is warmth, dry air and months without the furniture moving. None of that responds to a vacuum, because none of it is on top. A full immersion bath answers all three at once, since the water reaches the bottom of the weave, the rinse carries the load away from the property, and the moth treatment arrives dissolved in the same water and reaches everywhere the water does.

No customer needs to make that trip. Collection and return are free on the inner south run, and the rolled rug goes from the door straight into the van.
A school from 1863, a hospital, and a lake worth the walk
Three and a half square kilometres immediately south of the city centre.
St Patrick's Catholic Primary School opened in 1863 and St Patricks Cathedral stands on James Street, anchoring a Catholic presence that runs longer here than almost anywhere else in the city.
A hundred and sixty years of the same institutions in the same streets produces households that keep things, and things that get kept are the things worth washing properly.
Toowoomba South State School operated from 1865 until it closed on 31 December 2013, which is 148 years of state schooling inside one small suburb. St Saviour's Primary School and St Saviour's College continue to serve local families from James Street and Stephen Street today.
Toowoomba Hospital sits on Pechey Street inside this suburb and is the city's principal public hospital, while Lake Annand gives residents genuine open water and parkland within walking distance of the CBD.
Hospital shift patterns mean somebody is usually home, which makes this one of the easier suburbs on the schedule for arranging a collection that actually suits.
This is traditional country of the Giabal people, known also as Paiamba or Gomaingguru, which is worth naming plainly alongside the suburb's more recent civic history. Downs Shopping Centre covers daily needs and City Golf Club gives the suburb a sporting anchor close to town.
Population grew from 5,224 in 2016 to 5,512 in 2021 at a density near 1,490 people per square kilometre, which is real growth inside one of the city's smallest and most central localities.
Dense inner suburbs give a run day predictable volume, which is why South Toowoomba holds a fixed place on the inner south schedule rather than being fitted in.
Neighbours are Toowoomba City, Newtown, East Toowoomba, Rangeville, Centenary Heights, Kearneys Spring and Harristown, so almost everything is a few minutes away in any direction. At 3.7 square kilometres there is not much land left to add.

South Toowoomba, answered honestly
We work hospital shifts. Can collection be arranged around that?
Tell us the pattern when you book and we will do what the run allows. The day gets set in advance and the window firms up once the route is loaded, so we can usually work around a night shift. What we will not do is promise an hour we cannot hold to, because that helps nobody.
What goes into the figure you quote?
Construction, dimensions and the actual condition of the foundation. Those three produce one number that already has collection and delivery inside it, and it is given once. If a rug has reached the point where washing will not achieve anything worth paying for, we tell you and there is no charge for that.
Our house is old and close to the street. Does that show up in the rugs?
Consistently. Short front paths mean street grit gets tracked in with very little chance to fall off on the way, and it is angular material that drops to the bottom of the pile and stays. That is where it grinds against the wool. Suction never reaches it, a full bath does.
There is dried urine on a rug from an elderly dog. Is it worth trying?
Nearly always worth an inspection at least. Urine sits in the backing rather than the pile, so how old the mark is matters less than whether the dyes around it have shifted. That gets tested first. Immersion takes the source out, enzymes handle the odour, and you get a straight answer on any remaining stain.
Do you also collect at Newtown, Harristown and Kearneys Spring?
All three sit on this day, along with Toowoomba City, East Toowoomba and Centenary Heights. Because the suburb is compact, neighbours often put two or three rugs together, and it pays to, since every rug beyond the first has $20 off.
How long is the rug away?
Around 7 days from collection to delivery. 48 hour express is on offer for an extra amount when a date is fixed. Raise it at the outset, because the inner south is covered on a set day rather than whenever a van is free.
