A firm figure for a settled house on the ridge
Nothing gets priced through a doorway. The rug travels down on the run, opens flat at Yatala under real light, and the figure comes from what can genuinely be done with it.

Rug washing Middle Ridge, on ground named for being in between
Where the bullock teams were turned loose
Middle Ridge takes its name from the 1860s, when this was the ridge of open ground between East and West Creeks where bullock teamsters turned their teams loose to graze. It is a working name for a working purpose, given by people who needed somewhere in the middle of a hard trip. The district ran as its own Shire of Middle Ridge from 1880 to 1917 before folding into the wider city. Middle Ridge State School opened on 27 May 1884, making it one of the district's oldest, and it is now joined by OneSchool Global, formerly Agnew School, serving years 3 to 12 from Gerrard Street. The suburb sits between 420 and 670 metres, which is a considerable range inside eight and a half square kilometres, and it means the cold sits differently on one street from the next.
Most rugs are neither fine nor finished. Somebody has to tell you honestly which part of the middle yours is in.
A golf course, a homestead, and what settled means
Gabbinbar homestead, heritage-listed on Ramsay Street, is one of the suburb's oldest surviving buildings, and the Toowoomba Golf Club runs an 18-hole course from Rowbotham Street. Echo Valley Motor Sport Complex adds a further recreational thread, and between 1958 and 1961 Middle Ridge hosted motor racing events timed to coincide with the city's Carnival of Flowers, which is a piece of local sporting history now several decades past. What all of that describes is a settled suburb rather than a new one, and settled suburbs send us a particular kind of work: rugs that have been in the same room, in the same position, for fifteen or twenty years. Those pieces almost never look as bad as they are and almost never are as bad as they look, which is the whole reason we quote from the wash floor and not from a photograph.
High enough for a real winter
Population grew from 7,141 in 2016 to 7,595 in 2021, sitting at 873 people per square kilometre, which makes this one of Toowoomba's larger southern suburbs and a fully established one rather than a corridor still filling in. It borders the city's busiest southern retail area without carrying that commercial identity itself, so it draws steady family traffic and keeps residential streets. At this elevation the winter is the thing that shapes a rug's year. Frosts, nights near zero and houses closed up for months mean wood-fire soot settling as a fine film, damp collecting in the base of anything lying on a cold floor, and moths getting a long undisturbed run at wool that nobody moves between May and September. All three are handled in one pass at Yatala, and the drying room is what stops the damp being taken straight back on.

Directions from Middle Ridge to our Yatala facility
Hardly any Middle Ridge customer makes that trip themselves. The rug goes down and comes back at no charge as part of the southern run, collected rolled from wherever suits you at the house, and you get the timing once the day has been sequenced.
A teamsters' name, a heritage homestead, and motor racing at Carnival time
A suburb that was its own shire before it was part of the city.
Middle Ridge takes its name from the 1860s, when this was the ridge of open ground between East and West Creeks where bullock teamsters turned their teams loose to graze. The district ran as its own Shire of Middle Ridge from 1880 to 1917.
Somebody named this ridge for the practical job it did on a long haul, and a hundred and sixty years later it still does one: it is where the southern half of our Toowoomba collection day turns around.
Middle Ridge State School opened on 27 May 1884, one of the district's oldest schools, and is now joined by OneSchool Global, formerly Agnew School, serving years 3 to 12 from Gerrard Street.
Gabbinbar homestead, heritage-listed on Ramsay Street, is one of the suburb's oldest surviving buildings, while the Toowoomba Golf Club runs an 18-hole course from Rowbotham Street, a fixture of the city's sporting calendar.
A suburb built around a heritage homestead and a genuine golf course looks after its established character, which is the same standard we hold a heritage wool or Persian rug to.
Echo Valley Motor Sport Complex adds a further recreational thread, and between 1958 and 1961 Middle Ridge hosted motor racing events timed to coincide with the city's Carnival of Flowers, a piece of local sporting history now decades past.
Population grew from 7,141 in 2016 to 7,595 in 2021, a genuine rise for one of Toowoomba's larger southern suburbs, now sitting at 873 people per square kilometre across 8.7 square kilometres.
A suburb this settled and growing this steadily brings the reliable, unspectacular demand our Toowoomba run was built around.
That density reflects a fully established suburb bordering the city's busiest southern retail corridor, close enough to draw steady family traffic without carrying a commercial identity of its own.

Middle Ridge questions, answered plainly
The rug is twenty years old and has never been washed. Too late?
Usually not, and pieces like that are the bulk of what comes off this ridge. Two decades in one position means soil packed hard into the base and colour dulled above it rather than fibre destroyed. The honest answer arrives once it is flat at Yatala, and it is given before anything is committed to.
How is the price arrived at?
By the piece, never by the room it came out of. Construction, size and condition are the inputs, and getting it down the range and back again is inside the figure rather than added afterwards. It is set once, at inspection, and does not move. If we cannot improve a rug, it comes home with nothing to pay.
What is the honest best case for a wine mark on wool?
Often a large improvement rather than complete removal, and we would rather say that at the start than surprise you at the end. Fresh wine on wool usually lifts well. Wine that has been through a summer has bonded to the fibre, and a rug that comes back significantly better is a good outcome, not a failure.
Our cat has urinated repeatedly on one end of the rug. Is it beyond help?
Rarely beyond help, though a repeat offender is a bigger job than a single accident. The trouble is depth. Urine ends up against the backing while the spray goes on the face, which buys a few days and then the smell is back. Submersion brings the deposit up and out, enzymes deal with the odour, and the piece is dried under control.
Do you cover Rangeville, Centenary Heights and Top Camp too?
All three are on the same southern run day as Middle Ridge, along with Kearneys Spring next door. Two houses on one street booking together is worth arranging, since every rug after the first on a booking gets $20 off.
Why does it take a week?
It depends on drying, not on us being busy. A rug has to lose its water evenly, from the foundation as well as the pile, and pushing that stage is how pieces come back stiff, shrunken or smelling of the room they dried in. Where a date is fixed, there is a 48 hour express option available at an additional cost.
