Latrobe Terrace is the spine of Paddington's retail life, and its landmark is the Plaza Theatre at number 163, built in 1929 as an atmospheric cinema with a ceiling of twinkling stars and moving clouds. The screen went dark in 1961, and since 1985 the heritage-listed building has traded in antiques and homewares, currently as Empire Revival, which suits a suburb that collects the past for a living.

The tower went up because hilltop homes needed proper infrastructure, not improvisation. Rug care is the same: a facility with wash floors and drying rooms beats any driveway process, and ours is 40 minutes down the M1.
Opened in 1927 to push water to the houses on Paddington's high ground, the tower on Garfield Drive holds 100,000 gallons on a frame of twelve columns at one of the highest points in the inner city. It has outlived its original job but remains one of Brisbane's best-known landmarks and the suburb's fixed point on the skyline.

Ithaca Pool on Caroline Street is one of Brisbane's charming small pools: a 25-metre heated outdoor saltwater pool with six lanes, hidden below street level at the eastern edge of the suburb. The rug is 70 years old. Is immersion safe for it?
Usually, but the assessment decides. Dyes are tested, the foundation is checked, and if full immersion is not safe we say so and offer what is. Old wool that passes the checks comes out of the wash looking decades fresher.
Would you actually tell me it needs nothing?
If that is the truth, yes. Some pieces only need surface dusting and a rotation, and we say exactly that at the door. Overselling wash jobs is how cleaners lose suburbs like this one.
What does rug washing cost in Paddington?

What if we are not satisfied with the wash?
Say so inside 48 hours of the rug's return and we run the wash again for nothing. Standard turnaround is seven days, and the 48-hour express is there at extra cost when a deadline demands it.
Pet urine on an antique rug: is immersion still safe?
Usually, and it is the only treatment that actually ends the problem. Urine residue sits in the foundation, and on antique pieces it threatens old dyes as well as the air in the room, so speed matters. We test dye stability first, wash the source out in full immersion where the piece allows it, and dry the rug completely. Where age or dye damage limits what is safe, you hear exactly that before any work begins.
