Boundary Street's traders survive by doing the job properly year after year. We run the same way: a family rug business built on honest assessments and repeat West End clients.
The street follows the boundary surveyors drew for Brisbane's first land sales in the 1840s, and the name carries a hard history: by the 1850s that line was used to exclude Aboriginal people from the town at night, a past the suburb now acknowledges openly. The Boundary Hotel was licensed in 1864, and the street has been West End's centre ever since, today running cafes, vintage shops and restaurants under the old awnings.

A riverside suburb learns what water does when it rises. When rugs cop flood, leaks or storm damage, we assess honestly, wash what can be saved at Yatala, and say plainly when a piece is beyond it.
The 1893 flood washed away almost every house on the old Orleigh Estate, and in 1914 the Hill End Progress Association petitioned the council, 292 signatures strong, to turn the river flat into a park. It opened in August 1917 and has been West End's riverfront ever since, home to the sailing and rowing clubs, a Stolen Generations memorial since 2012, and a jacaranda line that is among the most photographed in Brisbane.
Teaching on Vulture Street since 1875, now 150 years old and 1,400 students strong.
Five generations have walked through the same school gates. Plenty of West End rugs hold similar service records, and washing a rug so the next generation inherits it too is exactly what 29 years of practice is for.
The school opened on 16 August 1875 with 236 pupils in a brick building designed by Richard Suter, and it has grown with every wave of arrival the suburb has welcomed since. Its Depression-era brick building from 1936, the 1930 Memorial Fountain and the old retaining walls earned it a Queensland Heritage Register listing in 2018, and it marked its 150th anniversary with more than 1,400 students enrolled.

My yiayia's rug came from Kastoria. Would you know how to treat it?
We would, and it would not be our first. Greek family pieces, like Persian and tribal rugs, are hand washed at Yatala with dye testing first and gentle handling throughout. If a rug is too fragile for water, we say so and explain the alternatives.
The house flooded years ago. Could the rugs still carry silt?
Yes. Flood silt drops to the bottom of the pile and stays there until the rug is washed right through, so if your rugs have only ever been surface cleaned since, an immersion wash will likely pull out more than you expect.
What does the assessment cost?
Nothing. The driver looks at the rug when collecting, sets the firm price then, and you can decline with no charge. The same honesty applies mid-wash: if we find something that changes the job, you hear about it before we continue.
Are Highgate Hill and South Brisbane part of the same round?
They are. The three peninsula suburbs share one pickup day, and rugs from different addresses can join a single booking, which puts $20 off every rug after the first.
How long will the rugs be gone?
Seven days is the standard, and the 48-hour express costs extra. Everything comes back completely dry, and anything you query within 48 hours of delivery is washed again free.
The cat picked the inherited rug, of course. Will urine lift out without harming it?
Almost always. Urine sits in the foundation, not just the pile, so the honest fix is a full wash: dyes tested first, the residue dissolved and rinsed at the source, then complete drying. If an old dye looks likely to move, we say so before deciding anything with you.
