Down the Steps
for You

Red Hill's streets run hard uphill and down, so the service comes to the door. The driver carries the rolled rug out on the weekly inner west run, the washing and drying happen at our Yatala facility, and the rug comes home completely dry to a house with nowhere to dry it.

  • Safe for delicate and handmade rugs
  • 48-hour express service available at additional cost
  • Steep street pickups are our weekly routine, not a special request

One firm figure at the top of the stairs

Good wool on hoop pine floors deserves a considered opinion. The driver inspects the rug where it lives, sets a firm figure from size, fibre and condition, and if the honest answer is that it only needs a vacuum and a rotation this year, that is the answer you get.

I was mainly worried about the fibres, not just the colour-run worry. The rug was valuable to us, so I wanted someone to check it before washing. The result was the kind of careful clean we hoped for.

Cottages on the contour lines

Rug Cleaning Red Hill for Tin-and-Timber Houses

Cottages stacked on the contour lines

Red Hill climbs the ridges two to three kilometres northwest of the city, named for the red soil its first roads cut through. The hills kept the blocks small and the houses close, which is why the suburb still reads as workers cottages and gabled Queenslanders stacked along contour streets, most of them protected character housing. Under the verandahs and VJ walls the renovations run deep, but the floors stay old hoop pine and hardwood, and the rugs on them are chosen to be seen: wool, Persian and flatweave pieces that soften a timber house and take the traffic of family life.

Rugs in the shaded rooms carry moisture and fine dust deep in the pile.

What the gully streets do to a rug

The ridge tops catch every breeze going, and the gully streets keep the opposite habit: they hold damp after rain, and cottages built close together get limited airflow underneath and between. Immersion washing at our Yatala facility flushes the fibre completely, and our drying rooms send the rug home dry, which a winter cottage cannot manage on its own.

The wash floor is closer than you think

The family reviving the old Skate Arena site on Enoggera Terrace also runs the drive-in a few minutes from our Yatala facility, so the connection between Red Hill and our wash floor is older than this page. The drive is about 43 kilometres down Hale Street and the M1, and the truck does it weekly on the run that covers Paddington and Petrie Terrace. Rugs ride out rolled in the morning and come home inside the week, washed by the same hands that have done nothing but rugs for 29 years.

Rug Cleaning Red Hill

Cleaning for the chosen rugs of a cottage suburb, where one good wool piece often anchors the whole front room.

Steep blocks and no flat parking stop nobody here. The rug travels rolled in the driver's arms, down whatever the street throws at the trip, and returns the same way.

  • Stairs handled as routine
  • Character housing understood
  • One firm figure at the door

Rug Washing Red Hill

Hoop pine floors deserve a genuinely clean rug on top, and only a full bath removes what years press into the pile.

Dye test, immersion, hand agitation, a rinse that runs clear, then the drying rooms. The cottage never has to host a damp rug again.

  • A bath, not a surface pass
  • Old wool handled gently
  • Dried through before return
Most popular

Stain Removal

Game nights, red wine and kids' craft sessions leave their evidence on family wool.

Coffee, wine and mud each answer to something different, so naming the mark comes before treating it. The call on what will lift is given straight.

  • Marks identified, then treated
  • Chemistry matched to fibre
  • Honest odds up front

Pet Stain and Odour

The family dog claims the coolest rug in the house all summer, and the rug keeps the evidence.

Odour and staining are dissolved at the source in the bath, not sprayed over. The cottage smells like a cottage again, not like the dog's summer.

  • Source removed, not masked
  • Safe for wool and dyes
  • The cool spot reclaimed

Odour Removal

Closed-up winter rooms hold smells in fibre, and the rug is the biggest fibre surface in the house.

A full wash empties the pile of its winter load, and controlled drying hands the rug back neutral. The room follows within a day.

  • The biggest surface, reset
  • Neutral, not perfumed
  • Winter mustiness gone

Rug Spot Cleaning

One incident on one corner does not need the full treatment, and we quote it that way.

Spot work keeps the bill and the wait small while the rest of the rug is honestly clean. When the whole piece is genuinely due, that gets said plainly and the call stays yours.

  • Proportionate treatment
  • Small jobs stay small
  • Your decision, informed

Rug Steam Cleaning

Hardy synthetics from kids' rooms and sunrooms respond well to steam extraction.

Steam suits durable fibres carrying surface grime. The inspection decides which method serves each rug, so nothing tougher than necessary touches old wool.

  • Right method per rug
  • Quick for hardy fibres
  • Wool spared the shortcut

Rug Dry Cleaning

Viscose blends and delicate weaves that cannot take a bath get the low-moisture route instead.

A test decides which pieces can bathe and which cannot, before any water appears. The gentle route works inside the fibre's limits and the piece keeps its behaviour.

  • Delicates identified first
  • Low-moisture, low-risk
  • Limits respected fully

Water Damage Restoration

A blocked gutter over a gully-street cottage can soak a rug in one storm.

Speed decides these jobs. Collected quickly, a soaked rug is dried first and washed second, so mould never gets its opening. Most come back whole.

  • Storm response, fast
  • Mould denied its start
  • Most pieces recover fully

Mould Rug Cleaning

Shaded southern rooms and under-house storage grow mould on rugs without asking permission.

When it is caught early the wash removes it entirely. When it is advanced, we look first and tell you what the rug realistically has left before you spend anything.

  • Shade-side risk covered
  • Full removal when early
  • Straight scope first

Rug Moth Treatment

Wool stored in cottage cupboards is a standing invitation, and moths rarely decline.

The wash takes out eggs, larvae and residue in one pass. Whatever has been eaten gets pointed out honestly, and we set the cupboard up so next season is safe.

  • Every stage removed
  • Damage shown honestly
  • Storage set up right

Stain Protection

A protectant coat after washing gives the family rug a head start on the next spill.

It settles invisibly into clean fibre and slows a tipped glass long enough to matter, which on a Broncos night is the whole game.

  • Reaction time, bought
  • Invisible in use
  • Earns its keep early

Brick, boots and a lost rink

Three Red Hill landmarks with long stories

A 1914 church, the Broncos' clubhouse and the rink Brisbane still misses.

St Brigid's Church

The 1914 brick landmark on Musgrave Road, visible from half of Brisbane.

A parish of modest means built something meant to last a century, then kept it standing. Good wool works on the same arithmetic: look after it properly and it outlives every cheaper thing around it.

Broncos Club

The Broncos' home club on Fulcher Road, open since the team's first season.

Game-day households are hard on floors. Spilled drinks, boots, dogs and thirty years of Friday nights all end up in the rug, and a proper immersion wash at Yatala is what gets them out again.

The Red Hill Skate Arena story

A 1920s picture theatre that became Brisbane's best-loved skate rink, lost to fire in 2002.

The family reviving this site runs the drive-in a few minutes from our wash floor, so the connection is literal: Red Hill rugs are washed just up the road from the Skate Arena's next chapter.

Glad we finally booked the clean in Red Hill
The shaggy rug had become one of those jobs I kept avoiding in the front room. The shaggy rug came back fresher, softer and ready to use again in the bedroom. I liked that the result looked clean without being overdone.

The booking was easy to fit for our wool rug
The wool rug was too noticeable in the office to ignore any longer. The team explained the wash, took the wool rug away to the facility and returned it with the colours looking clearer. The communication made the whole thing feel simple. The Red Hill pickup was handled well.

Traffic dirt sorted on our hallway runner
The allergy-triggering dust was the reason we sent the hallway runner from Red Hill. The traffic areas are lighter and the pile sits better. The job was handled about as described at the start.

We pulled the Scandi rug out of storage and it smelled too stale for the house. It now smells neutral, which was exactly what I wanted. It was a good save for a rug we still wanted to keep.

Off-site clean helped in Nathan
After a few years in the main room, the Oriental rug needed a proper wash rather than another quick vacuum. The collection made sense because the rug was too bulky for my car. It came back dry, clean and ready to put straight down. That small change made the room feel cleaner overall.

Good to know

Red Hill wants the details

Can the driver really manage our staircase?

Stairs are the job description in Red Hill. The rug travels rolled, the driver carries it down to wherever the truck fits, and on delivery day it is carried back up the steps to your door.

Is immersion washing safe for a rug that is older than the house?

Done properly, yes. Age calls for gentler handling, not avoidance: we check dye stability and the foundation first, wash to suit, and dry the rug fully before it comes home. If a piece is too fragile to wash well, we say so instead of chancing it.

How is the price worked out for our rugs?

On size, fibre and condition, fixed by the driver at inspection before anything leaves the house. Pickup and return cost nothing, and rugs after the first on one booking are $20 off each.

We have family in Paddington. Can both houses book the one run?

Easily, and it is the smart way to do it. Red Hill, Paddington and Petrie Terrace share the inner west day, so two households can combine a booking and both benefit from the multi-rug discount.

When does the rug come back, and in what state?

Seven days as standard, completely dry and wrapped for the trip. Express in two days is possible at added cost. If anything seems off, raise it within 48 hours of delivery and we repeat the wash for nothing.

Two kids, one dog, one cottage rug. Does urine odour ever really leave wool?

It does when the source leaves. Urine soaks through to the rug's foundation, so sprays and surface cleans only quieten it until the next humid week. Immersion washing at Yatala dissolves the residue where it sits and rinses it out, and if dye damage has already happened, we tell you at the door.
