One firm figure for the good wool inside
East Brisbane renovations strip floors back to the original boards, and the rugs bought to sit on them are wool, Persian and designer pieces chosen with care. Those rugs deserve a process, not a promise: inspection at the door, a firm quote, a hand wash at Yatala and a dry return.

I kept noticing the wool rug whenever I walked through the front room. It was collected, immersion-washed at the Yatala facility and returned fresh, dry and easy to lay back down.

The Rug Washing East Brisbane's Old Boards Deserve
Tram-boom timber and serious renovations
East Brisbane sits barely two kilometres southeast of the CBD, folded between the river's Kangaroo Point reach and the cricket ground's shadow, and it holds one of the city's densest stocks of period timber housing: grand two-storey Queenslanders near the river, workers cottages through the middle streets, apartments filling the old industrial corners. The tramline arrived in 1897 and the suburb filled almost overnight, which is why so many of its houses share a birthday. Renovations here are thorough, floors come back to original hardwood, and the rugs match the standard of the houses.
Wool pile absorbs that moisture for months at a stretch, and it holds dust, allergens and odour where no vacuum or surface treatment reaches.
What river air does under old floorboards
Low ground near the river holds summer humidity, and the older timber homes breathe it through every board. Our process answers all of it at once: full immersion at the Yatala facility, dyes tested first, a hand wash and thorough rinse, then controlled drying so polished boards never meet a damp rug.
Busy households, honest advice
The big school on Oaklands Parade keeps this suburb's calendars full, and full calendars are how good rugs go years between proper washes. Our fix is to make the job cost you nothing but a decision: the driver picks the rolled rug up on the weekly inner-east loop, the assessment is honest, and a piece that only needs a vacuum and a rotation is told so plainly. After 29 years we would rather keep an East Brisbane household for a decade than oversell it once.

Three East Brisbane anchors
A riverside park with Brisbane's first WWI memorial, Churchie, and the 1899 brick school.
The riverside park named in 1904, holding Brisbane's earliest First World War memorial.
The streets around Mowbray Park hold East Brisbane's grandest old homes, and their rugs match the architecture. We collect them rolled from the veranda on the weekly inner-east loop.
South Brisbane's council bought Mowbray's Paddock in 1903 and named Mowbray Park in September 1904, after the reverend who once held this riverfront. Locals raised Brisbane's earliest First World War memorial here in 1916, public baths ran off the park from 1919 to 1969, their porphyry steps still descending beside the ferry terminal, and the CityCat has called since 1996 at a wharf rebuilt and reopened in December 2024.
The boys' school on Oaklands Parade since 1918, known to everyone as Churchie.
Churchie families run full calendars, and full calendars are how a rug goes years without proper care. Free pickup means the wash happens without costing anyone a Saturday.
Canon William Morris founded the school at Toowong in 1912 and moved it to East Brisbane in 1918, where it grew into one of Australia's best-known boys' schools. Officially the Church of England Grammar School from 1916 to 1985 and Anglican Church Grammar School since, the short name never changed, and its rowing sheds, ovals and boarding houses shape the whole southern end of the suburb.
The heritage-listed brick school on Wellington Road, opened 10 July 1899.
A school in its second century sits among homes of the same age, and those homes hold long-owned rugs. Every one gets an honest assessment first, because we do not profit from washing a rug that does not need it.
When the tramline reached East Brisbane in 1897 the population jumped, and the government answered with a large brick school of the newest design, opened on 10 July 1899. Still teaching more than 120 years later, it is heritage listed as a marker of how state education evolved, and it remains the civic centre of the suburb's family life.

East Brisbane owners ask
Is it safe to wash a rug that is decades old?
Age alone is no barrier; condition is what matters. The dye test and foundation check at assessment tell us whether a piece can take immersion, and if it cannot, you hear the honest alternatives instead of a hard sell.
The house is being repainted and refloored. Good time for the rug?
The best time. The rug leaves before the trades arrive, avoids the dust entirely, and lands back on the new surface washed and dry. Plenty of East Brisbane renovators plan it exactly that way.
What does rug cleaning cost here?
The price follows the rug: size, fibre, condition, quoted firm at inspection. Pickup and redelivery are free on the loop, and each extra rug in the same collection saves $20.
Do you cover Norman Park, Coorparoo and Kangaroo Point?
All three, on the same weekly inner-east loop that serves East Brisbane. One conversation can book rugs from several houses along the run.
How long is the turnaround, and what if something seems off afterwards?
Seven days standard, with a 48-hour express at added cost when a deadline demands it. If anything seems off once the rug is home, tell us within 48 hours and it goes straight back through the wash, free.
A dog accident soaked into the wool rug. Can the smell truly go?
Yes, if the source goes. Urine sinks past the pile into the rug's foundation, and that base layer is what keeps releasing odour every humid East Brisbane afternoon. Surface sprays never touch it. Full immersion at Yatala washes the residue out of the foundation itself, which is the only lasting fix, and any dye damage already done is pointed out honestly at assessment.
