A careful figure for a carefully chosen rug
A hand-knotted silk and a machine-made polypropylene deserve different answers, and pretending otherwise is how rugs get ruined. The driver identifies the piece at your door, quotes it firmly, and books it onto the peninsula run only if the work is genuinely worth doing.

I wanted the woven rug cleaned properly the first time. The woven rug is softer now, with the traffic areas much less obvious. I liked that the result looked clean without being overdone.

Rug Washing New Farm, Done as the Maker Intended
Considered interiors, chosen rugs
New Farm mixes some of Brisbane's most loved housing: grand Queenslanders and Federation homes on the quiet streets, art deco flats from the interwar years, and riverfront apartments from every decade since. It is a suburb of considered interiors where the rug is chosen to match the home, hand-knotted wool and silk in the character houses, designer pieces in the towers.
Owners here know what they have and expect it handled correctly.
Peninsula air and deep verandahs
The river rings the peninsula, so the air stays moist, and the sheltered streets hold summer humidity under thick tree canopy. Deep verandahs keep rugs out of the sun but not out of the damp, and wool absorbs it quietly over months until the pile feels heavy and smells faintly wrong. Our full immersion wash at Yatala flushes the fibre completely, and controlled drying returns the rug genuinely dry rather than surface dry.
A century of adapting, underfoot
The picture house on Brunswick Street has screened since 1921 by changing with every era without losing its character, and that is precisely the trick a good rug has to manage: three generations of the same family, four different living rooms, one unbroken piece. Washing old wool and silk without harming either is the craft our 29 years have refined. We identify what you have, say plainly what it needs, and treat a deco flat's flatweave with the same respect as a tower's silk.

Where your rug is washed
Three constants on the peninsula
Where New Farm shops, watches and catches the boat, and has for the best part of a century.
The suburb's own shopping village on Merthyr Road, New Farm's daily centre of gravity.
Village suburbs prefer service that comes to them. Our driver collects the rolled rug at your door on the weekly peninsula run, and the booking takes two minutes on the form.
Anchored around its supermarket and surrounded by cafes, delis and specialty shops, Merthyr Village is where the peninsula does its everyday business. The name reaches back to Merthyr, the estate of Sir Samuel Griffith, whose land holdings shaped this end of the suburb and left the name on the road, the village and the parkland nearby.
The Brunswick Street picture house, screening since 1921 under one name or another.
A cinema that has adapted for a century without losing its character is very New Farm. So are rugs that have passed through three generations of one family, and washing those without harm is exactly our trade.
The building opened around 1921 as the Merthyr Picture Palace, was remodelled in 1938 into the Astor, and in 1970 became the Village Twin, Queensland's first twin-screen cinema and one of Australia's earliest multi-screen houses. Heritage listed and still running as New Farm Cinemas, it has outlasted a century of competitors, including the suburb's own open-air rivals.
The peninsula's CityCat stop, keeping New Farm connected by water as it always has been.
New Farm has always trusted things that arrive on schedule. Our pickup runs work the same way: a confirmed day, a driver who collects the rolled rug, and a rug returned washed and dry from Yatala.
The wharf at the end of Sydney Street serves CityCat and CityHopper services on the river's northern bank, rebuilt in 2015 and busier than ever. River transport is old habit here: ferries carried New Farm's residents to work and home again long before the suburb's apartments arrived.

New Farm asks, we answer
Who actually washes the rug?
Our own people at our own Yatala facility, under IICRC certification. Nothing is subcontracted, and the rug is hand washed in full immersion rather than surface cleaned and sent back.
Can you handle silk and antique pieces?
Yes, they are a large part of our work. Dyes are tested first, fragile foundations are flagged at assessment, and where immersion is not safe we explain what is. Honest assessment protects the piece before anything else does.
What will rug cleaning cost in New Farm?
Priced rug by rug: size, fibre, condition. The driver gives a firm figure at the door before collection, pickup and redelivery cost nothing on the peninsula run, and each rug after the first saves $20.
Can Teneriffe and Newstead rugs join our pickup?
Same truck, same day. The peninsula and its neighbours make one weekly loop, so a single form can book rugs from more than one address.
How dry is the rug when it comes back?
Completely dry, through the foundation, out of a controlled drying room. On a humid peninsula that matters, because a rug returned damp starts its next problem immediately. Standard turnaround is seven days; the paid express does it in 48 hours.
Can urine damage on a silk or fine wool rug be reversed?
The odour can, and often the mark can too. Urine residue settles into the foundation, which is why it outlasts every surface product, and on silk and fine wool it can also disturb dye. The wash removes the source in full immersion after dye testing, complete drying follows, and where colour has already shifted you hear an honest account of what treatment will and will not restore before we begin.
