Rug Washing Arana Hills Across the Whole Catalogue
The full post-war catalogue
Arana Hills climbs the ridges 11 kilometres northwest of the CBD, just inside the City of Moreton Bay where the hills district begins. It was the first modern suburban subdivision in the old Pine Rivers Shire, carved out of timber country in the 1950s, and it still reads that way: steep streets, tall gums, and homes stepped down the slopes. The housing runs the full post-war catalogue, chamferboard and brick from the original estates, high-sets catching the breeze on the ridge lines, and renovated family houses on blocks big enough for a trampoline and a dog. The rugs are family workhorses: lounge room wool, hallway runners and the good rug that only comes out when guests do.
Shaded southern slopes keep floors cool and rugs slow to dry, while open windows let in bush pollen and fine dust off the slopes.
Gullies hold the damp
The hills take the full force of summer storms, and the gullies running down toward Kedron Brook hold damp air long after rain. Immersion washing at our Yatala facility clears the pile completely, and the rug comes back dry no matter what the week's weather did.
Named by people who checked
This suburb renamed itself in 1962 after a public meeting, which tells you the kind of households the hills attract: people who look into things before committing. We work well for them. Ask what the wash involves and you get the actual process, dusting, dye testing, full immersion, controlled drying, not a brochure line. Ask whether an ordinary family rug is worth washing and you get a straight answer at the door, including the times the honest answer is no. The run through Arana Hills, Ferny Hills and Keperra makes the 62 kilometres to Yatala a weekly routine.

Where your rug is washed
Three stories from the hills district
The estate that renamed itself, an all-abilities playground and a club built by working bees.
The 1956 estate that renamed itself, and picked a word that meant the moon.
Assumptions are easy to buy and hard to check, with names and with rugs. Our assessment tells you what your rug actually is, wool or blend, handmade or machine, before we quote a cent.
Willmore and Randell opened the first modern suburban subdivision in Pine Rivers Shire here in 1956, selling blocks at prices that made the Camden Park estate a phenomenon. With too many Camden Parks in Australia, residents met in March 1962 to choose a new name, and the progress association put forward Arana, an Aboriginal word they understood to mean welcome. The name was gazetted in December 1962; only later did research show Arana refers to the moon. The suburb kept it, and made the welcome true anyway.
The Dawson Parade parkland with the hills district's all-abilities playground.
A playground built for every child matches how we treat rugs: wool or synthetic, handmade or machine loomed, each one is assessed honestly and washed to suit its build.
Leslie Patrick Park strings playing fields, clubs and a bike track along Dawson Parade, and at its centre sits the Hills District All-Abilities Playground: fully fenced, with sensory gardens, misting totems, swings and cubbies designed so every child can play. The local library runs story time sessions in the park, and the bike track links into the surrounding bikeways, which keeps the place busy seven days a week.
The club that local parents founded in 1969 and built with their own fundraising.
This club exists because families did the work properly and kept at it. Same principle at our Yatala facility: hand washing, full drying, no shortcuts, for 29 years.
On Australia Day 1969 a group of parents founded the West Arana Hills Junior Rugby League Football Club, and by 1972 the growing club had moved to its Dawson Parade home, which technically sits on the Keperra side of the city boundary, a detail locals happily ignore. Construction of the clubhouse began two years later, paid for by community fundraising and working bees, and the Arana Leagues Club has anchored hills district sport and Friday dinners ever since.

Hills district questions
What does the 62 kilometre round trip cost us?
Nothing. Free pickup and delivery is part of the service, with hills district jobs grouped on one weekly run to keep it that way. The price you pay is the wash price the driver fixes at your door.
Why does our rug smell musty every February?
Storm season humidity sits in the gullies, and slow-drying rooms feed moisture into rug pile until it sours. A full immersion wash with proper drying resets the rug, and a spot in the sunniest room afterwards helps it stay that way.
Our rugs are ordinary, not heirlooms. Do you still take them?
Of course. Most of what we wash is ordinary family rugs, and the honest assessment works in your favour: if a rug's replacement would cost less than its wash, the driver says so and you decide.
Can Ferny Hills grandparents add their rug to our booking?
Yes, and it happens often. Ferny Hills, Everton Hills and Keperra share the district day with Arana Hills, so one booking can collect from two houses, with $20 off each rug past the first.
What is the timeline once the driver has the rug?
Seven days standard from collection to return, dried through before it travels. An express 48-hour option exists and costs more, and the guarantee is simple: query anything inside 48 hours of delivery and we put it back through the wash, free.
Old dog, favourite rug, years of accidents. Is the urine beyond washing out?
Usually not. Even years of urine is residue, and residue rinses out when the whole rug is immersed and the source dissolved, which no surface treatment manages. We assess honestly at the door: most rugs come back neutral, and if the backing has genuinely broken down, you hear that instead.
