The big rug handled without you lifting it
Between the river boundary and the tree cover, Bunya homes hold their damp, and the big rug in the open-plan living area holds most of it. Book by form and the rug leaves rolled from your front door on the northside day. The wash itself happens by hand at Yatala, the drying goes to the core, and the rug is carried back up the same driveway.

Rug Washing Bunya, Scaled for the Big Rooms
Acreage living inside the city limits
Bunya covers a generous 14.5 square kilometres and holds fewer than 2,000 residents, which tells you everything about the block sizes. This is acreage living inside the city: long driveways, homes from the 1970s onward set well back on big treed blocks, pools, sheds and the occasional horse paddock, with the South Pine River as the northern boundary. Interiors run large, and the rugs match, oversized wool pieces, good hand-knotted rugs bought to anchor a big room, and hallway runners that meet boots and dogs daily. Premier Rug Cleaning washes all of them at Yatala, and the oversized ones are routine for the wash floor rather than a complication.
Morning moisture sits in the gullies, summer humidity does the rest, and a rug in a shaded acreage home can hold damp for weeks with nobody noticing until it smells.
Gully air finds the biggest thing in the room
The river and the tree cover keep Bunya's air damper than the open suburbs east of it. An immersion wash clears everything the moisture has been feeding, and full drying in our rooms makes sure the problem stays behind.
Named for a pine, schooled for ninety years
Bunya takes its name from the Kabi word for the bunya pine, and its history runs on quiet persistence. The valley's one-room school opened in 1875 and taught farm children for ninety years before better roads closed it in 1965, the ford at Bunya Crossing still crosses the South Pine without a bridge, and winter Saturdays still fill the car park at the James Drysdale fields. Nothing here is showy and everything lasts, which is the standard we work to as well. The driver makes the trip up the long driveways on the northside day shared with Albany Creek and Eatons Hill, and 29 years of hand washing at Yatala does the rest.

Where your rug is washed
The ford, the name and the fields
A river crossing without a bridge, a school that served ninety years and the reserve that hosts the district's weekends.
The old ford on the South Pine, still a crossing without a bridge.
River-flat air and wet dogs both finish their day in the living room rug. A full immersion wash at Yatala rinses out the damp, the dander and the river mud, and the drying rooms send the rug home ready.
Bunya Crossing is where the road meets the South Pine River the old way, as a ford rather than a bridge, and the reserve around it is one of the quietest riverbank spots on the northside. Locals swim the dogs here, kids skip stones, and after decent rain the crossing runs too deep to use, exactly as it has for generations. It is standing proof that Bunya stayed country while the suburbs filled in around it.
A Kabi name for the bunya pine, and a school that ran ninety years.
Ninety years of service from one small school is the local standard for doing a thing properly. Twenty-nine years of hand washing rugs at Yatala is us holding to the same idea.
Bunya takes its name from the Kabi language word for the bunya pine, the great cone-bearing tree that mattered enormously to Aboriginal people across this region. The farming district got its school early: Bunya State School opened on 25 January 1875 and taught the valley's children for ninety years before closing on 21 February 1965, once cars and better roads made the bigger schools nearby an easy run. The name stayed on the map long after the school gate shut.
The sporting reserve that outweighs the suburb around it.
Sporting weekends travel home as mud on boots and grass in the pile. A proper wash every year or two keeps the family rug comfortably ahead of the fixture list.
The James Drysdale Recreation Reserve is the busiest corner of a quiet suburb, with playing fields hosting football, AFL and cricket for clubs that draw players from across the northside hills. For a locality of under 2,000 people it is an outsized piece of sporting infrastructure, and on winter Saturdays the reserve's car park holds more people than the rest of Bunya combined.

Asked from the acreage
The rug is enormous. Is that going to be a problem?
No. Size stops mattering once the rug is rolled: the driver manages the pickup, the Yatala wash floor is built for oversized pieces, and the drying racks take rugs no domestic room could air. Oversized is a normal week at the facility.
How often should a rug be washed if it lives under shade trees?
Every year or two, sooner if it starts smelling closed-in. Shaded acreage homes hold moisture longer than open suburban blocks, and the rug is usually the first thing in the room to show it.
Do you really come out this far for one rug?
We do, on the scheduled northside day. Bunya sits on the same run as Albany Creek and Eatons Hill, so the driver is passing anyway, and pickup and delivery stay free. One rug or five, the run is the run.
We are on tank water. Does that change anything for the wash?
Not for us, because nothing is washed at your place. The rug travels to Yatala, is immersion washed and rinsed on our controlled wash floor, and comes back dry. Your tanks stay untouched.
What does Premier Rug Cleaning do differently from a carpet cleaner with a van?
A van cleans carpet where it lies. We remove the rug and wash the whole of it, both faces, by full immersion at our facility, then dry it to the core before it comes home. For loose rugs, especially wool and hand-knotted pieces, that difference decides how long the rug lives.
Two dogs and one good wool rug share the living room. How bad is urine for it?
Left alone, bad: it sits in the foundation feeding odour and slowly working on the dye. Dealt with properly, very recoverable: the full immersion wash at Yatala dissolves the residue out of the rug's base, smell included. Wet-dog damp and river mud leave in the same bath, and the honest assessment covers all of it before anything is booked.
