A figure you can hold us to, given at the door
The driver reads the rug on your step and gives you one number for the whole job, both trips included. That number does not move afterwards, whatever the wash turns out to need. Where a rug is not worth the money, the honest answer comes before the quote does, not instead of it.

Rug washing Tewantin, in the Noosa district's working centre
Named for dead logs, because there was a mill here
Tewantin comes from the Aboriginal term dauwadhum, meaning place of dead logs, a direct reference to the sawmill standing here when Clarendon Stuart surveyed the town in 1871. That is an industrial origin rather than a scenic one, and it fits what followed, because timber, fishing and later gold gave this town its economy from the beginning. Nothing about the name was chosen to attract anybody. The locality now covers 26.2 square kilometres on the Noosa River, 10.4 kilometres west of Sunshine Beach and 13 kilometres east of Cooroy, with Cooroibah, Noosa North Shore, Tinbeerwah, Noosaville and Doonan around it. This is Noosa Shire country and the district it belongs to is Noosa rather than Maroochy, which is worth stating plainly because the two get conflated constantly.
A place named after the logs left over from a sawmill was never going to pretend to be something it is not. We take the same view when we tell you what a rug actually needs.
Where the district's paperwork was done
Tewantin took over as headquarters of the old Noosa Shire Council in 1985, replacing Pomona in that role, and held it until the 2008 regional amalgamation folded the shire into the wider Sunshine Coast Regional Council. Noosa Shire was re-established as a council of its own in 2014. For those two decades the rate notices, the development applications and the meeting minutes for every beach suburb in the district were produced in this town rather than in any of them. Alongside that sit the Tewantin War Memorial, dedicated in early 1922, the Tewantin RSL and the historic Royal Mail pub, all within the same centre. What that history means for us is straightforward. This is a town of long-settled full-time households with rugs that have been in the same rooms for years, not a strip of holiday lets turning stock over between seasons.
River on one side, lake inside, older timber floors underneath
Sitting directly on the Noosa River with Doonella Lake inside the locality, Tewantin carries river humidity on top of the coastal salt that reaches this far inland, and the combination behaves differently from straight beachfront exposure. The older timber housing stock is the part worth understanding. A raised timber floor over damp ground draws moisture up from underneath, so a rug on that floor is being worked on from below rather than from above, which is why the underside is often in worse condition than the face. Owners are usually surprised by that when we turn a rug over. Full immersion lifts trapped river humidity and salt out of the pile together, since both settle into the foundation rather than sitting on the surface, and the rug then dries flat in our controlled room where the air is genuinely dry rather than merely warm.

What a Tewantin rug does for the week
That is the longest leg we run and it costs you nothing at either end. Tewantin goes on the Noosa run alongside Noosaville and Doonan, and the window gets confirmed once the day's sequence is fixed.
A sawmill in the name, a council in the town, and 11,164 residents
The Noosa district's working centre, distinct from the beaches it once administered.
Tewantin derives from the Aboriginal term dauwadhum, meaning place of dead logs, a direct reference to the sawmill that stood here when the town was surveyed by Clarendon Stuart in 1871.
A place named for what was actually lying on the ground sets exactly the tone we work in, which is describing a rug as it is rather than as it would be easier to sell.
Timber, fishing and later gold gave the young town its working economy from the outset, which is a genuinely industrial and river-trade beginning rather than a resort one. That puts Tewantin at the opposite end of the spectrum from the beach suburbs further along the coast, which were laid out and named to attract people rather than to describe what was already happening on the ground.
Tewantin served as headquarters of the old Noosa Shire Council from 1985, taking the role over from Pomona, until the 2008 regional amalgamation folded the shire into the wider Sunshine Coast Regional Council. Noosa Shire was re-established as its own council in 2014.
A town carrying that kind of administrative role for a generation is full of full-time working households, and those are the homes where rugs stay in place long enough to be worth restoring properly.
For those two decades the rates, the development applications and the minutes covering every beach suburb in the district were produced here rather than in any of them. The Tewantin War Memorial, dedicated in early 1922, the Tewantin RSL and the historic Royal Mail pub all stand within the same town centre, giving the place a civic weight that its neighbours along the water never carried.
Tewantin grew from 10,920 residents in 2016 to 11,164 in 2021, one of the largest single-locality populations researched anywhere in the Noosa district.
A town this substantial supports a proper scheduled collection day of its own, which means our driver reaches every street here on the same morning rather than making special trips.
Tewantin State School serves 603 students as the district's primary anchor, with secondary students travelling to Sunshine Beach State High School or Noosa District State High School. Doonella Lake sits within the locality itself. This is a genuine working town of some size rather than a small holiday precinct, and the population density of 426 people per square kilometre across 26.2 square kilometres reflects a town centre with real residential streets behind it.

Tewantin questions, answered plainly
Our house is old timber and raised off the ground. Does that affect the rug?
More than most owners realise. A raised timber floor over damp ground lets moisture come up from underneath, so the rug is being worked on from below as well as walked on from above. Turn one over and the reverse is often in worse shape than the face. Immersion deals with the whole thickness at once, which is why the underside comes back as well as the top.
How is a Tewantin rug priced?
Off the rug in front of us. Construction, size and condition produce the figure, and both driver trips are already counted in it. Nothing gets added once the work is underway. Where a piece has genuinely passed the point of being worth the cost, we tell you rather than quote it.
We are Noosa Shire here, not Maroochy. Do you actually cover this district?
We do, and you are right to make the distinction, because the two get run together constantly. Tewantin, Noosaville, Doonan, Tinbeerwah and the Noosa beaches are all on our Noosa leg. It is the longest run we make from the facility and pickup and delivery are still free at both ends of it.
The cat has urinated on a wool rug and the smell keeps coming back. Why?
Because it is not where you have been treating. Urine passes through the pile in seconds and sets in the backing, and river humidity here rewets that spot often enough to release the odour again and again. Anything applied to the top stops well short of it. The bath takes the deposit out of the base itself, enzymes handle the compounds responsible, and controlled drying breaks the repeating cycle.
Do you collect at Noosaville, Doonan and Tinbeerwah as well?
Yes, all three are on the same Noosa morning, and so are Noosa Heads, Cooroy and Lake Macdonald. Because this run is long, households here often send several pieces at once rather than one at a time. Every rug beyond the first has $20 off.
What is the turnaround?
Seven days is standard. A 48-hour express option exists for tighter situations and it does cost more, so it is worth asking about early rather than late. The Noosa district runs on a fixed collection day, which is why a deadline raised at the start is far easier to work around than one raised afterwards.
