A firm figure for acreage rugs and animal households
No guessing over the phone. The rug is looked at properly, one figure is set from what is there, and that figure is what the invoice says, whether the piece came off a Steiner-school family's living room or a working paddock house.

Rug washing Doonan, Noosa acreage on our northern leg
Noosa country, whatever the paperwork says
Doonan is a 31.5 square kilometre locality sitting 9.7 kilometres directly south of Tewantin, 26.9 kilometres northeast of Nambour and 51.1 kilometres north of Caloundra. Its neighbour list tells you where it really belongs: Tinbeerwah, Tewantin and Noosaville to the north, Noosaville's beaches a short drive on, then Eumundi inland and Peregian Beach and Peregian Springs to the southeast. We treat Noosa as its own district on the run for exactly that reason, whatever a group heading says. The population was 3,459 at the 2016 census and 3,727 at the 2021 census, spread thinly at about 118 people per square kilometre, which is what acreage looks like in numbers. Nothing about that spread is inconvenient for us, because the whole leg is driven anyway and one more gate on the way through costs nothing extra to open.
Every second job here has a dog attached to it. We would rather say that plainly than write about lifestyle and leave you guessing whether we can fix the smell.
Two hills, a railway that never came, and a school that did
Lone Tree Hill at 210 metres and Mitchell Hill at 140 metres give this locality its rolling shape, and they are the reason Doonan reads so differently from the flat coastal ground at Tewantin just north. A railway was proposed through the district from Eumundi to Tewantin and abandoned when the First World War took the money and the labour. What arrived instead came much later and by road. Noosa Pengari Steiner School opened here in 1996 and had 298 students by 2018, on ground agropastoral families had worked from the nineteenth century until the 1990s. Two much shorter-lived government schools, one running 1919 to 1954 and one 1924 to 1931, had come and gone long before. Between the school families and the older farming households, the rug stock here splits fairly evenly between recent buys and pieces that have been on the same floor since well before either school opened.
Salt from one side, paddock from the other
Doonan sits far enough inland to avoid the direct beachfront treatment and close enough to get the salt anyway, carried in on the same easterlies that reach Noosaville and Peregian. On its own blocks it adds paddock dust, dog traffic and the damp that collects in low ground between two hills. Salt is the quiet problem of the pair because it holds moisture against a fibre and keeps wool slightly heavy long after the last wet week. One bath releases salt, sand and packed soil at the same time. The piece then dries flat under controlled conditions on our Yatala floor, which is something no verandah rail in this air can do.

The listing is service-area, which means we travel to the property and keep no public counter on the Coast. The washing all happens at Yatala.
Where the rug goes after the driveway
This is the longest leg we drive and the distance is ours, not yours. Doonan is collected with Tewantin and Noosaville on the Noosa day, and the window firms up once that day is set.
An animal shelter, two hills and a school on old farming ground
Three sourced facts that belong to this district and nowhere near it.
The RSPCA's Noosa animal shelter sits at the corner of Hollett Road and West Eumundi Road, inside Doonan, serving the whole Noosa district.
Animals are the reason a great many Doonan rugs reach us at all, and the odour work we do on them gets the same no-shortcuts treatment the shelter gives the animals themselves.
For a district built on acreage and animals, having the region's shelter based here rather than in a coastal centre says something plain about the character of the place. It is a working facility with intake, care and rehoming going on daily, not a landmark people drive out to look at, and Doonan's own paddocks and rural-residential blocks are the sort of ground a shelter needs around it.
Lone Tree Hill at 210 metres and Mitchell Hill at 140 metres shape the locality, and a proposed Eumundi to Tewantin railway through it was abandoned when the First World War intervened.
A district shaped by its own hills rather than by a line that never got built is a specific place, and we would rather write the specific version than a generic one.
The two rises are why Doonan rolls while Tewantin just north of it lies flat, and they set where the blocks and the driveways go. The railway that was meant to cut through never got past planning once the war took the funding and the workforce. What eventually came instead, decades later, was road-fed acreage and estate growth, which is the pattern the locality still runs on.
Noosa Pengari Steiner School opened here in 1996 and had 298 students by 2018, on land agropastoralists worked from the nineteenth century until the 1990s.
Families who choose a school this deliberately tend to choose a rug cleaner the same way, on how the work is done rather than on who answers first.
The farming era ran right up to living memory, and the school that followed drew families to Doonan for an entirely different reason. Two earlier government schools had already been and gone: Doonan Provisional School from 1919 to 1954, and Doonan Lower State School from 1924 to 1931. The current school is the one that stuck, and it is a large part of why the population keeps ticking up.

Doonan questions, answered plainly
Is Doonan really on your run, given how far north it is?
It is. Doonan sits on the Noosa leg with Tewantin and Noosaville, which we drive on a set day, so pickup and delivery are included and the distance is ours to wear. The van comes onto the property. Your window is confirmed once the run day for that leg is locked in.
The name of the place seems to have two different explanations. Which is right?
Nobody can say for certain, and we would rather tell you that than pick one. One account traces it to an Aboriginal word for leaf, another to an Irish settler's phrase about a place of trees and hills. Both are recorded, neither is confirmed, so we leave it exactly there.
Our dogs are on the rug constantly. Is it even worth washing?
Usually yes, and often more worth it than the owner expects. Coat oil, grit and claw wear are all treatable, and what most people are really asking about is smell, which is a residue problem rather than a permanent one. What we will not do is take a piece whose backing has already gone. That gets said at the assessment.
There is urine in the rug from an older dog. Will washing actually fix it?
Yes, when the wash goes right through. Urine dries into the foundation under the pile, so anything applied to the surface is treating the wrong layer, which is why the smell keeps returning on humid days. Full immersion flushes that layer, an enzyme stage handles what was feeding it, and any dye damage underneath is described honestly at assessment.
Do you also collect from Tewantin, Noosaville and Peregian Springs?
Yes, and from Tinbeerwah, Eumundi and both Noosa Heads and Noosa Junction on the same leg. Neighbours often send rugs together on the one day out here, which makes sense given the driveways, and each rug after the first is $20 off.
How long is the rug away, and can it be faster?
Seven days is standard. A 48 hour express option exists at additional cost when a date genuinely cannot move. In both cases the piece is dried right through under controlled conditions before it comes back, because returning a damp rug into salt-carrying air would undo the work.
