A plain figure for a station-side house or an acre
Before any number, the rug gets named accurately: what it is made of, how it is built and what has happened to it. The figure follows from that description and does not move afterwards.

Rug washing Palmwoods, in the town the palms named
A name changed to match the ground
Early settlers, the Kuskopfs, called this district Merriman Flats in 1881. Ten years later, when the railway station opened in 1891, it was renamed Palmwoods after the piccabeen palm groves that were actually growing here. That is a small thing and a telling one: the town traded a name carried in from elsewhere for one that described what was standing on the ground, at exactly the moment the railway gave the place a lasting role on the North Coast line. The habit stuck. The pub has stood since 1902. Palmwoods State School has run continuously since 1889, first as a provisional school and then as a state school from 1909. Three churches went up within a few years of each other, in 1925, 1926 and 1928. The population has climbed from 5,492 in 2011 to 6,357 in 2021.
Naming a thing accurately is not a small courtesy. It is the difference between the right work and expensive guesswork.
Original timber stock, and the edges filling in
The housing here reads as two clear layers. Around the old town centre and the station the original timber stock is still standing and still lived in, floorboards and all, with rugs that in plenty of cases arrived with a previous generation and have never been out of the house. Further out the blocks open up into acreage running toward Hunchy, Landers Shoot and the range, and closer in there is newer infill filling the gaps between the two. Each layer produces a genuinely different rug. The old houses give us wool with decades of compacted soil in the base and often a foundation worth checking carefully. The newer builds give us blends and synthetics bought for a room. We would rather establish which of those is on the truck before saying anything about method, and that takes a proper look rather than a glance.
Range weather, arriving from above
Palmwoods sits between Nambour and the Blackall Range foothills, and the weather here comes off the higher ground at Montville and Landers Shoot rather than in off the sea. That produces a different pattern from the coastal suburbs: cloud that rolls down and settles, rain that arrives heavily and drains slowly off the slopes, and long humid stretches through the warmer months. A timber house handles most of that well and its rugs handle it less well, because a rug is the one thing in the room with no ventilation underneath it. Trapped humidity in the base of a piece binds to the ground-in soil already there, and the two together are what dull a rug and eventually make it smell. Immersion clears both from the foundation, and the controlled drying room afterwards is what stops the range putting the damp straight back.

There is no counter of ours in Palmwoods or anywhere else on this coast. The listing marks the area our driver covers, we collect from the house, and every rug is washed at Yatala.
Out of the town and south to the floor
That drive is on us and it never shows up in a quote. Palmwoods is collected on the corridor day with Nambour and Woombye, and we confirm the window once the order of the day is worked out.
A renaming in 1891, a tramway that went, and pineapples that stayed
A railway town that has kept doing the same job for a century.
Early settlers the Kuskopfs called this district Merriman Flats in 1881, and it was renamed Palmwoods for the piccabeen palm groves growing here when the railway station opened in 1891.
A name changed to describe exactly what was standing there, timed to the railway's arrival, is the sort of considered decision we respect, and it is the same instinct we bring to describing a rug.
The rename tied the town's identity directly to what actually grew on the land rather than to a name brought in from elsewhere, and it arrived at the precise moment the railway gave the district its lasting role as a stop on the North Coast line.
The Palmwoods to Buderim Tramway ran from 1915 to 1935, the Palmwoods Pub has stood since 1902, and pineapple growing remains the district's most important primary industry to this day.
A town whose main industry has genuinely never changed understands doing one thing properly over a long stretch, which is the same standard we hold on a wash floor.
Three churches went up within a few years of one another, St Augustine of Canterbury Anglican in 1925, Immaculate Conception Catholic in 1926 and the Uniting Church in 1928, and Palmwoods State School has run continuously since 1889. Transport, faith and farming are all still visible in the one town.
The population climbed from 5,492 in 2011 to 5,676 in 2016 and 6,357 in 2021, steady growth for a town that still keeps its railway station, its pub and its school at the centre.
A settled town growing steadily rather than overnight is full of households who intend to stay, and rugs in those houses get looked after rather than replaced, which is the work we prefer.
With Woombye, Hunchy, Chevallum and Landers Shoot as direct neighbours, Palmwoods anchors its own corner of the district's village and acreage belt. It is substantial enough to carry a genuine town centre rather than functioning as a residential fringe of somewhere larger.

Palmwoods questions, answered plainly
Can you tell us what our rug actually is?
Yes, and that is the first thing we do. Fibre, construction and how the colour was applied all get established once the piece is flat at Yatala, and you get told in plain terms rather than in trade language. Plenty of rugs turn out to be something other than what the owner was told when they bought it.
How is a Palmwoods rug priced?
Off the description we arrive at. Construction, size and the condition it reaches us in produce one figure, with both trips already covered inside it. Inspection settles it and it stays settled. Where a piece is genuinely not worth the outlay, we say so instead of putting it through the tank.
The rug came with the old house near the station. Worth doing?
Very often yes, and this town produces a lot of them. Wool that has gone flat and grey is usually loaded with decades of compacted soil rather than worn out, and those two states look identical until the piece is wet. We can tell you which yours is before committing to anything.
One of the dogs urinated on the hall runner. What can be done?
Quite a lot, provided the source gets dealt with. Urine sits against the backing rather than in the pile, which is why it survives every surface attempt and comes back in humid weather. Submersion brings the deposit up and out, enzyme work settles what is left, and controlled drying stops it returning.
Do you collect at Woombye, Chevallum and Eudlo as well?
All three ride the same corridor day as Palmwoods, along with Ilkley and Landers Shoot. Households here often have one rug in the house and another in a flat or studio out the back, and putting them together means $20 off each rug past the first.
What is the turnaround, and can it be brought forward?
Count on about 7 days. The wash is a small part of that and controlled drying is the rest, which is where the quality actually comes from. Where a date is immovable, a 48-hour express service exists at an additional cost, and it is worth asking for when you first book.
