One figure, and no talking around it
We look at the rug and decide whether washing it is worth what it costs. If it is, you get one number. If it is not, you get told so directly, and nobody has spent anything finding out.

Rug washing Hunchy, on the foothills leg of the range day
Named for the shape of the ground
Hunchy was called Hunchback first. That is the whole story of the name. Somebody looked at the way the foothills sit below the Blackall Range, described it exactly, and the description softened over time into the name the locality carries now. There is no legend attached to it, no founder and no borrowed English town. It is Kabi Kabi and Jinibara country, worked since settlement for dairy and then for mixed crops, and pineapples, lychees, bananas, citrus and avocados have all been grown across its twelve square kilometres. What is not here matters as much as what is. There is no township centre, no shopping strip and no main street, and 592 people were counted at the 2021 census, up from 549 in 2016 and 524 in 2011. Small, and honest about it.
Describing a thing accurately is not a lesser skill than dressing it up. It is the harder one, and it is what we do with a rug.
Farm blocks, and the rugs on them
The houses here sit on orchard and dairy blocks spread out along the roads rather than gathered into a village. That has a direct effect on the rugs inside them. There is one door everybody actually uses and it opens onto working ground, so soil arrives in volume and it arrives fine. Orchard dirt is not builder's sand. It carries organic matter and it settles right down into the base of a pile where nothing at the surface will reach it. The rugs themselves tend to be decent wool, often bought once and expected to last, which is exactly the right expectation. A wool rug that has been kept reasonably dry and has never been properly washed is usually structurally sound and cosmetically finished. Those two conditions look identical from a metre away and they lead to completely different advice, which is why we look before we quote.
Below the cloud, but not out of it
Hunchy sits in the range's lower reaches, so it gets less of the mist that hangs on Flaxton and Montville above it and more of the seasonal damp that settles across the foothills. That is a smaller difference than people expect. A rug on a shaded floor here still holds moisture in its base for weeks while the surface feels dry, and that base is where mustiness starts and where growth takes hold under furniture nobody moves. The washing removes the soil and releases the odour. Whether the problem stays gone depends entirely on how the rug is dried afterwards, and there is no reliable way to dry a rug through in foothill air during a wet stretch. The controlled room at the facility is what makes the difference, and on this side of the range that is the most useful thing we can offer anybody.
Our Sunshine Coast office, and where the washing happens
Our Sunshine Coast office
Premier Rug Cleaning Sunshine Coast
There is nowhere to bring a rug in on this coast. The Sunshine Coast listing marks the ground we work, a driver comes out to the block, and the bath is filled at Yatala.
Down the hill, and south
The driving is our cost and it stays that way. Hunchy is collected on the range leg with Flaxton and Montville, and we confirm the window once the day is scheduled.
A blunt name, a school building at a hundred years, and 592 people
A small farming district described as it actually is.
Hunchy sits in the foothills of the Blackall Range and was first called Hunchback, a plain description of the shape of the land that softened over time into the name used today.
A name that describes the ground rather than flattering it is close to how we describe a rug: what it is, what it needs, and what it is not getting back.
The district has always run on dairy farming and mixed crops. Pineapples, lychees, bananas, citrus and avocados have all been grown across the locality's twelve square kilometres, which is Kabi Kabi and Jinibara traditional country sitting in the range's lower reaches.
Hunchy State School operated from 1924 to 1969, and the original building still stands today as the community centre, with its centenary marked on 18 August 2024.
A building that has served the same community for a hundred years under two different purposes is exactly the sort of thing worth keeping properly, and so is a good rug.
No school currently operates inside the locality. Families here send children to Montville or Palmwoods State Schools for primary years and on to Maleny, Burnside or Nambour State College for secondary, which is an ordinary arrangement for a district this size and not a sign of anything going wrong.
Hunchy's population grew from 524 to 549 to 592 across the 2011, 2016 and 2021 census counts, small but genuine growth in one of the quieter parts of the range's foothills.
A district this small gets the same full wash and the same straight answer on our foothills leg as anywhere larger further up the range.
The accurate description is a farming district without a township centre. Orchard and dairy blocks are spread along the roads rather than clustered around a main street, which puts Hunchy closer in scale to its smallest hinterland neighbours than to Montville or Maleny above it.

Hunchy questions, answered plainly
There are only a few hundred of us out here. Do you actually come?
Yes. The range leg passes through Hunchy on its scheduled day whether there is one rug waiting or several. A single piece off a farm block is an ordinary collection and the drive does not appear anywhere on the quote.
Our postcode is shared with Palmwoods. Does that confuse anything?
Not for us. Hunchy shares 4555 with Palmwoods and Landers Shoot, which is normal for a district without its own centre. We work by property and by run day rather than by postcode, so the address goes on the docket exactly as you give it.
How do you work out the cost?
From the rug. Size, construction, fibre and condition, and nothing else. Where you live does not change the number and the drive is already covered. The figure is set at the inspection and it stays there.
The dog has urinated in the same place repeatedly. Is the rug done for?
Usually not, but leave it much longer and that changes. Urine settles in the foundation, which is why a spray helps for an afternoon and no more. Immersion carries it out, enzymes deal with what causes the smell, and if the colour underneath has been affected we show you at the assessment rather than after the wash.
Do you also collect from Palmwoods, Montville and Flaxton?
All three, on the same range day, and Mapleton and Landers Shoot as well. Properties out here are spread out, so if you and a neighbour send rugs together it works better for everybody, and every rug after the first has $20 off applied.
How long does a wash take?
Roughly a week, door to door. Where something has to be back faster, a 48 hour express service can be arranged and it carries an additional cost. Neither option shortens the drying, because a rug sent home with damp still in its base has not actually been finished.
