A single figure for a rug off the range edge
We do not guess at a price before we have seen the piece. The piece gets opened out and read, then one number goes on it, and that number is still the number on the invoice.

Rug washing Landers Shoot, on the escarpment's own edge
A locality named after a method
Most places on this coast are named for a person, a language word or a feature. Landers Shoot is named for a technique. It is a corruption of Lander's Chute, one of the timber chutes cut down the escarpment from the 1860s, and it covers four point seven square kilometres eleven and a half kilometres west-southwest of Nambour with Montville above it, Palmwoods below it and Eudlo alongside. Three hundred and eight people lived here at the 2021 census, up from two hundred and fifty two in 2016, which is a twenty two percent rise in five years for a locality this small. There is no shopping strip and no centre. It is a genuine border place, sitting where the maroochy district and the hinterland proper meet, and the postcode it shares with Palmwoods and Chevallum is the reason it is filed where it is.
The old way of getting timber off this range was fast and rough. Everything we do with a rug is the opposite of that.
Small blocks between a village and a village
Landers Shoot sits between two very different neighbours. Palmwoods below is a working village with a main street. Montville above is a tourist village that fills with visitors at weekends. What lies between them is rural residential and acreage, quiet, and growing steadily without ever becoming either of those things. The households here own the kind of rugs people buy when they have chosen where to live rather than landed there: wool on timber floors, a few hand knotted pieces, sometimes one older rug carried up from a previous house in another state entirely. Since there has been no school in the locality since 1944, families use Eudlo, Montville or Nambour, and the daily traffic runs out and back rather than in circles. For us it means fewer rugs per property than a suburb, and better ones.
Damp arriving from below and above
This locality gets weather from two directions and that is not a figure of speech. From above, it catches the escarpment cloud that Montville lives in, the kind that settles for days and takes the inside of a house with it. From below, it shares the valley humidity that Palmwoods carries up the slope on a warm afternoon. The two meet on this edge, and a rug sitting on a floor in the middle of it rarely gets a properly dry week. That is the reason the drying stage of what we do matters as much here as the washing stage. Water through the weave clears the soil and the odour, and then a room where we set the conditions is what sends the rug home genuinely dry rather than dry only where you can feel it.

Premier Rug Cleaning Sunshine Coast
We hold no premises on this coast that a customer could bring a rug to. The Sunshine Coast listing marks out the area we work across, our driver comes up to the property, and all the washing is done at Yatala.
Down the range properly this time
Those kilometres are ours and they do not reach your quote. Landers Shoot is collected on the hinterland day with Palmwoods and Eudlo, and the window is confirmed once the run is scheduled.
A timber chute, a school that closed honestly, and quiet growth
A locality named for a method rather than a person or a township.
Landers Shoot is a corruption of Lander's Chute, named for the log chutes timber-getters cut down the escarpment from the 1860s, one of them run by Edmund Lander, who leased the Mooloolah Back Plain in 1861.
A place named after the fastest and roughest way to move something down a hill is a useful contrast to what we do, which is the slowest and most careful way to get a rug clean.
Timber-getters stripped the bark off a felled log to make it slide, sharpened one end, and sent it down a steep chute cut into the escarpment, end first. Logs sometimes smashed into trees and boulders on the way down before bullock teams hauled what survived on to the nearest mill. The chutes took the names of the men who ran them, and the district kept one of those names long after the log runs stopped.
Lander's Shoot State School operated from 17 February 1914 until 31 December 1944, thirty years of local schooling in a district that has stayed small ever since.
Calling it honestly when the numbers stop working is the same thing we do when a rug is past the point of being worth washing, and we would rather say so than take the money.
No school operates in the locality today, and families use Eudlo State School, Montville State School or Nambour State College instead. Thirty years is a fair run for a small range-edge district, and it closed when the enrolments no longer justified keeping it open rather than being propped up for appearances.
The population rose from 252 to 308 people between the 2016 and 2021 census, a 22 percent increase across four point seven square kilometres.
New households arriving on the range edge tend to bring good rugs with them, and those are exactly the pieces our hinterland run was set up to reach.
Hemmed in by Palmwoods, Montville and Eudlo, with no shopping strip and no centre of its own, Landers Shoot has still added households at a genuine pace over five years. It has grown without announcing it, which is more or less how everything here happens.

Landers Shoot questions, answered plainly
Do you come up the range for one rug?
Yes. Landers Shoot sits on the hinterland run and the truck comes past on that scheduled day whether there is one rug or five waiting. A single piece is a normal collection here, and the climb is not something that appears in your quote.
What sets the price on a rug from here?
Not the climb, and not the postcode. Construction first, then size, then the state of the thing when it reaches the floor. Both journeys the driver makes are inside that figure already. It is fixed at inspection and it stays fixed. A rug too worn to justify the work gets that verdict rather than a quote.
The house is damp most of winter. Does that affect the rug?
It affects the base of it, which is the part nobody checks. Cloud sitting on this edge for days keeps the foundation of a pile slightly wet even when the face feels fine, and that is where a musty note and eventually growth start. A wash plus a controlled dry resets it properly.
The dog uses one corner of the lounge rug. Can that be dealt with?
Usually yes. A concentrated deposit in one place has gone into the foundation rather than the pile, and that is why surface sprays never last. Immersion carries it out, enzymes settle what generates the smell, and any colour damage underneath is explained honestly before we go ahead.
Do you also collect at Palmwoods, Eudlo and Chevallum?
Those three are ours on the hinterland day, together with Woombye, Glenview and Ilkley. Montville sits up the range in the neighbouring group and runs separately, so rugs from here travel with the Palmwoods side of the boundary instead. Each rug past the first has $20 off.
Our rug came up here from a much colder state. Does that change anything?
It can. A rug that spent decades in a dry climate and then moved to a subtropical range edge often shows problems within a couple of years, mostly in the backing. We check the foundation before recommending anything, and if water is not safe for it we say so and use a low moisture method instead.
