Rug washing Newport, built around what salt does
Chosen rugs in rooms that face the water
Newport is the Redcliffe Peninsula's canal suburb, four square kilometres of waterways and waterfront homes whose population nearly doubled between the 2016 and 2021 censuses, from 2,964 to 5,964, as the new master-planned stages filled. The housing runs in two generations: original canal-estate homes from the 1980s and 1990s, many since renovated, and the newer builds that drove the boom, all of them open-plan over tile and hybrid floors with the water outside the glass. The rugs match the setting. These are chosen pieces, large formats anchoring big living zones, and they live with a workload no inland rug knows: salt air off the canals, humidity that never entirely leaves, and the indoor-outdoor traffic of pontoons, boats and wet swimmers. A rug in this suburb is doing quiet, constant work. Our job is undoing it, properly, every few years.
Salt works without announcing itself. The wool just stays damp until someone asks why.
A suburb that existed before it was official
Newport is older than its own name. The Newport Waterways project began in the late 1970s and the canals were first filled with water in 1979, decades before the address existed on paper. Residents formed a property owners association in 1985 and a Newport Watch program in 1986, yet the suburb was only officially gazetted on 15 August 2008, after the council submitted the name in 2006. Thirty years of functioning community before the paperwork caught up: very few Queensland suburbs can say the same. The place has kept building since. Spinnaker Park was voted Australia's Favourite Playground in 2021, Newport Marketplace put shopping and dining on the waterfront at Lakeview Promenade, and the marina beside Albatross Canal keeps the boats a short walk from the kitchen. A suburb this deliberate about quality tends to buy rugs the same way, which is exactly the kind we like washing.
What canal air does to wool, month by month
Canal-front rooms sit closer to the water than anywhere else on the peninsula, and the air that crosses the glass carries salt and moisture with it. Salt settles into rug pile and keeps pulling dampness in long after the breeze has gone, so the fibre stays faintly moist, binds grime harder, and dulls sooner than the same wool would a few streets inland. Vacuuming cannot touch any of it, since the load hides down in the pile base and the foundation beneath. The full immersion bath at Yatala flushes salt and bound grime out through the foundation, and complete controlled drying finishes the job the canal air keeps interrupting: the rug comes home genuinely dry, and stays that way longer than its owners expect.

A Newport rug's trip south
The bridge and the motorway are our problem, not yours. Newport shares the scheduled peninsula run with Scarborough and its neighbours, pickup and return ride free on that day, and the window settles once the run locks in.
Three things that explain Newport
A suburb built deliberately, and it shows in all three.
Water filled the canals in 1979; the name became official in 2008.
Canal homes into their fifth decade hold rugs that have worked just as long, mostly unwashed. An honest assessment tells you exactly what the bath will bring back before we begin.
The Newport Waterways project began in the late 1970s and its artificial canals were first filled in 1979, decades before the suburb existed on paper. Residents organised a property owners association in 1985 and a Newport Watch program in 1986, but the name was only gazetted on 15 August 2008, following a 2006 council submission. Almost thirty years as a functioning waterfront community before officially becoming a place: patience on a scale few suburbs can match.
Voted Australia's Favourite Playground in 2021.
The country's favourite playground sends home sandy, salty children every single afternoon, and the living room rug receives them. Our wash rinses the pile clean to the foundation, pickup included.
Newport's headline park holds a national title: Spinnaker Park was voted Australia's Favourite Playground in 2021, and any local parent can explain the vote. A waterside setting, equipment worth the drive, and families arriving from across the peninsula and well beyond on any dry weekend. For a suburb this young to hold the country's favourite playground says plenty about how deliberately Newport was designed around family life.
Waterfront shopping and dining beside the suburb's boat harbour.
A suburb designed so everything comes to the water suits our model exactly: the driver comes to your door on the peninsula run, and the rug returns washed, dried and guaranteed.
Newport Marketplace on Lakeview Promenade is the peninsula's newest retail and dining hub, an IGA, health and wellness providers and waterfront restaurants overlooking Jabiru Canal, built so daily life happens beside the water rather than away from it. The marina sits beside Albatross Canal off Griffith Road, which means errands, dinner and the boat berth all live inside one postcode.

Newport rug questions, answered plainly
What should a Newport home expect rug cleaning to cost?
Price follows the rug: size, fibre and condition, confirmed exactly at inspection. From there the figure is honoured, pickup and delivery included on the peninsula run. If a piece does not justify the work, we say that instead of quoting for it.
The cat urinated on our viscose rug. Is it saveable?
Usually, with honesty about the edge cases. Urine travels clean through viscose pile into the foundation, and only the bath with enzyme treatment resolves it at that depth. Viscose also marks badly under home scrubbing, so leave it alone and book promptly. Any permanent dye change gets named at assessment first.
Why is our rug always slightly damp near the canal?
Salt. It sits in the fibre and keeps attracting moisture out of the air, so the rug stays faintly damp no matter the weather. The only fix is removing the salt itself, which immersion washing does at the foundation. Once it is out, the rug finally dries and stays dry.
Are Scarborough and Kippa-Ring collected on Newport's day?
Yes, the peninsula runs as one round. Neighbours and relatives across those suburbs can coordinate bookings onto the same day, and when several rugs travel together, every piece after the first takes $20 off.
A rug stored over the boat season came out spotted grey. Mould?
Almost certainly, and worth acting on quickly. The visible spots sit over a colony in the foundation, so surface cleaning will not end it. The antimicrobial bath strips out growth, spores and food source together, and complete drying removes the conditions that invited it.
Guests arrive in ten days. Is that enough time?
Comfortably: the standard timetable is about 7 days, pickup to return. If plans tighten further, ask about the 48-hour express when booking. It carries an additional cost and comes back just as dry, because we do not return damp rugs at any speed.
