A firm quote for the beach-house rugs

Renovating a post-war beach house teaches you to distrust open-ended quotes, so ours close before work begins. Describe the rug on the form, get the figure, approve it, done. The rug rides our van over the bridge to Yatala, gets a full immersion hand wash, and comes home on a later peninsula pass, dry through every layer and smelling of nothing.

Post-war beach streets, renovated one by one

Rug Washing Clontarf, Where the Peninsula Starts

Post-war beach homes, hard-working rugs

Clontarf filled out after the war, beach houses and fibro cottages through the 1950s, brick family homes through the sixties and seventies, and a steady wave of renovations since as buyers rediscovered the bayside. The rugs are family rugs: wool pieces in the renovated beach homes, hard-working synthetics where kids and dogs rule, and the occasional inherited piece that came across from a grandparent's house. All of them lead a harder life than the same rug would inland, because sandy feet and salt air never take a day off. Premier Rug Cleaning washes them accordingly, by hand, at our own facility.

Salt is the part nobody sees.

What the bay does below the pile

It rides the sea breeze into the house year round, settles into rug pile, and keeps the base of the rug damp long after the breeze has dropped, which is exactly the environment where odour starts and fibre tires early. Sand does its part underfoot. A full immersion wash at Yatala dissolves the salt and carries it away in the rinse water, floats the sand out of the foundation, and complete drying sends the rug home with the whole cycle reset.

Everything still comes ashore here

For 75 years the Hornibrook Bridge landed everything the peninsula needed at Clontarf, from its opening in 1935 until the traffic moved next door, and the two portals still standing at the water's edge remember it. Our peninsula run keeps the habit: the truck comes over the bay, works Clontarf first, then sweeps the rest of the peninsula before heading south with the day's rugs. The form does the booking, the rug waits rolled at the door, and the crossing stays our job in both directions.

Rug Cleaning Clontarf

The full bayside service: dry sand dusted out first, a hand wash by full immersion at our Yatala facility, controlled drying and a groom. Collected rolled at your door on the peninsula day and returned about 7 days later.

Clontarf rugs carry a double load, sand grinding at the base and salt holding damp in the pile, and neither leaves with a vacuum or a surface clean. Dusting then immersion clears both, and the difference underfoot when the rug comes home is immediate.

  • Collected rolled at the door
  • Assessed and priced before washing
  • About 7 days, dried through

Rug Washing Clontarf

Our signature full immersion wash, and the only method that truly deals with bayside living. The rug is submerged at Yatala, the salt dissolves into the wash water, the sand sinks out of the foundation, and drying runs to the backing.

Salt is the quiet enemy on the peninsula: it keeps the base of a rug damp long after the breeze drops, and no amount of surface cleaning touches it. Immersion is the reset button. Twenty-nine years of hand washing, and it has never been bettered for beach-suburb rugs.

  • Salt dissolved and rinsed away
  • Sand floated out of the base
  • Dried through before the trip back
Most popular

Stain Removal

Wine on the deck rug, cordial in the kids' room, the mark the wet dog contributed. Fibre identified first, then the stain, and treatment matched to both with an honest forecast.

Guesswork ruins more rugs than stains do, because the wrong chemical sets a mark permanently. We test before treating and tell you before starting which marks will lift and which will merely fade. Beach-house owners appreciate a straight answer; they get one.

  • Wine, cordial, food and dog marks
  • Dye-safe, fibre-matched treatment
  • Straight forecasts before work

Pet Stain and Odour

The dog swims, the dog rolls, the dog sleeps on the rug. Accidents and animal smells are flushed from the foundation by immersion and treated at the source with enzymes.

Wet-dog and accident odours store themselves in the base of a rug where sprays never reach, and bay humidity reads them back out on schedule. The wash removes the residue at full depth, enzymes end the chemistry, and complete drying closes the loop for good.

  • Flushed from the foundation
  • Enzyme-treated at the source
  • Bay humidity finds nothing

Odour Removal

Salt-damp mustiness, wet towels on the floor all summer, the closed-up smell of the holiday months. Dissolved in the wash, rinsed away, and gone when the rug comes home.

A bayside rug smells because its base has been damp for months, salt pulling moisture in faster than the room can dry it. Deodorisers negotiate with the smell; the wash evicts it. Everything causing the odour leaves in the rinse water, and drying through stops the sequel.

  • Salt-damp and lifestyle odours
  • Evicted, not negotiated with
  • Dry to the backing at return

Rug Spot Cleaning

One fresh spill on an otherwise clean rug, treated in place: dye tested, carefully lifted, groomed back invisible. Ideal when the piece was washed not long ago and one accident is the only complaint.

Most spot damage is self-inflicted in the first five minutes, a hard scrub or the wrong spray doing what the spill alone never would. Blot and book instead. If the mark deserves the full wash we say so plainly, with the price fixed before you decide.

  • Single spills, local treatment
  • Dye tested before touching
  • Honest call on the right scope

Rug Steam Cleaning

Hot water extraction for the hard-working synthetics: the family room rug, the kids' floor piece, the runner inside the back door. Quick, effective, honestly scoped, and collected on the same peninsula day as everything else.

Steam suits machine-made rugs and mistreats handmade ones, so the assessment decides before any booking. The beach-house wool goes to immersion, the workhorses take steam, and we explain each call, because knowing why is part of what you pay for.

  • For synthetics and machine-mades
  • Fast refresh for family rugs
  • Handmade pieces steered to immersion

Rug Dry Cleaning

Low-moisture cleaning for the rugs that cannot meet water: unstable dyes, delicate silks, fragile older foundations. Cleaned by compound, section by section, with no immersion at any stage of the process.

Occasionally the dye test rules immersion out, and this careful alternative exists for exactly those rugs. Same facility, same hands, method chosen by evidence rather than convenience, and the reasoning shared with you before anything starts. The collection, the timeline and the guarantee all stay the same.

  • For dye-risk and delicate rugs
  • Controlled, sectioned work
  • Evidence picks the method

Water Damage Restoration

King tides through the garage, storm water under the door, the aquarium mishap. Salt water is harder on rugs than fresh, so speed matters double here. Book the day it happens.

A salt-wet rug holds moisture indefinitely and moulds fast in bay humidity, which makes the first days decisive. At Yatala the rug is rinsed of salt, dried in controlled conditions and treated in the right order, with a plain per-rug verdict before any spend.

  • Salt water rinsed out first
  • Dried and treated in order
  • Verdicts before commitments

Mould Rug Cleaning

The bloom on the garage-stored rug, the musty patch where the beach towels pile up. Bay humidity feeds mould year round, and we remove the colony and its cause together.

Mould in a bayside rug is a moisture story with a salt subplot, and wiping the surface changes neither. The antimicrobial immersion wash removes growth, spores and the salt keeping the base damp, and drying through to the backing ends the story properly.

  • Colony removed at depth
  • Salt subplot resolved too
  • Dried through, finished

Rug Moth Treatment

Moths find the stored wool: the winter rug rolled away for summer, the inherited piece awaiting a decision in the spare room. Every life stage treated, every trace washed out at the facility.

A rolled rug in a warm garage is a moth nursery, and the damage stays invisible until unrolling day. Treatment ends eggs, larvae and adults, the wash removes all trace, and the storage advice that comes home prevents a repeat booking for the same sad reason.

  • All stages treated
  • Traces washed away
  • Storage advice included

Stain Protection

An invisible after-wash barrier that keeps the next spill on the surface long enough to towel off. In a household of kids, dogs and sandy feet, it earns its keep fast.

Beach-house rugs live eventful lives, so buying time against the next accident is plain good sense. Applied to freshly washed pile the protection is undetectable in use, and it turns most future incidents into a quick blot instead of a booking.

  • Applied fresh after washing
  • Undetectable in use
  • Next incident towels off

Where a Clontarf rug gets washed

Collected in Clontarf, washed at YatalaThe rolled rug crosses the bay in our van and is hand washed in full immersion at Unit 9/38 Computer Rd, Yatala QLD 4207.
About an hour down the M1Over the Houghton Highway, onto the Gateway and south. The rug makes the crossing twice; you make it never.

Clontarf opens the scheduled peninsula day, pickup and delivery travel with that run, and your window is confirmed once the day's schedule is locked.

A bridge, a breeze and ninety years of golf

Three things Clontarf keeps

The crossing that landed here for 75 years, the park where the peninsula flies its kites, and the golf club that borrowed its name.

The Hornibrook Bridge story

The 1935 toll bridge landed at Clontarf, and its portals still stand at the water's edge.

For 75 years everything reaching the peninsula came ashore at Clontarf, and our pickup run still does. The driver crosses the bay, collects your rolled rug from the doorstep, and returns it washed from Yatala.

Pelican Park

The open foreshore parkland where the peninsula flies its kites.

A suburb that lives outdoors carries the outdoors home on its feet, and sand and salt work away at rug pile from the inside. A proper immersion wash at Yatala takes them out, all the way to the backing.

Redcliffe Golf Club

The peninsula's course since 1936, and it sits in Clontarf.

A club closing in on its century knows the worth of doing one thing well for a long time. Our 29 years of washing rugs by hand at the one facility is a run at the same record.

Clean again after pets in Clontarf
We booked because the dog urine spot on the hallway runner was too strong for home cleaning. The spot does not draw attention now, and the room feels normal again. There is still a faint mark in daylight, but I was told that might happen.

Good to know

Asked along the esplanade

How much sand can one family rug really be holding?

More than most owners believe until they see the wash water. Sand migrates below vacuum reach and packs against the foundation, kilograms of it in a busy beach-house rug, where it files away at the fibre with every step. Floating the rug in immersion is what finally gets it out.

We are two streets back from Bells Beach. Is salt still reaching the rugs inside?

Yes, because salt travels on the breeze, not on feet, and two streets is nothing to an onshore wind. It settles into the pile and holds the base of the rug damp, which over time means smell and tired fibre. The good news: it dissolves completely in a proper wash and leaves with the rinse.

The dog swims most mornings. What is that doing to the lounge rug?

Depositing a daily blend of salt water, sand and wet-dog smell that no amount of vacuuming addresses. The rug will keep absorbing it happily for a year or so, then start announcing it. An annual full wash keeps a swimming-dog household's rugs neutral, and the pet treatment handles anything extra.

Does your run cover the rest of the peninsula as well?

It does. The peninsula day takes in Woody Point, Margate, Kippa-Ring, Rothwell and the surrounding streets along with Clontarf, so relatives anywhere on the peninsula can book onto the same schedule. Every address with more than one rug gets $20 off each rug after its first.

The old dog has started having accidents on the family room rug. Can urine be removed completely?

Completely, when it is treated at the source. Urine drains through to the backing and dries there, and bay humidity keeps re-activating it no matter what is sprayed on the surface. We flush the rug through by full immersion, break down the residue with enzymes, and dry every layer before delivery. An ageing dog deserves patience, and the rug can now afford to extend it.

A king tide put water through the garage where the spare rugs live. Now what?

Move them somewhere dry, roll them loosely rather than folding, and book straight away, because warm salty damp starts mould quickly. At the facility the rugs are assessed, dried and treated in the right order, and you get a plain verdict on each one before any money is committed.
