One figure for an Ipswich family home
A proper wash costs far less than the rug it saves, and if yours is past saving you will be told before you spend anything. The quote comes after the inspection, and it is the figure you are invoiced.

Rug washing for the living rooms of Leichhardt
One rug, and everything the house does happens on it
Leichhardt sits 3.4 kilometres southwest of the Ipswich centre and 47 from Brisbane, 2.9 square kilometres with the Bremer bounding it on two sides, Old Toowoomba Road drawing the southern line and 54 hectares of golf course filling the south-western corner. The 2021 census counted 4,471 residents. The housing is post-war timber and fibro on generous blocks from the suburb's 1950s growth years, with newer brick filled in between, and inside those houses the pattern is remarkably consistent: one rug in the living room, and it does everything. Homework, television, the dog, visitors, the Christmas tree in December. It anchors the room and it takes the traffic of the entire household, and in most cases the only attention it has ever had is the vacuum going over the top of it once a week.
Plenty of the rugs we collect from these streets have never actually been washed. Not once, in twenty years of service.
Grit in the dry months, damp off the flats
The load arrives from two directions and neither of them is visible. Ipswich runs hotter than the coast through summer, and when the ground dries out the air carries fine grit that comes indoors on shoes and paws and settles down into the pile a little further every week. Then the rain arrives, the river flats hold their humidity for days afterwards, and a closed house lets that damp work into wool that already has the grit in it. The two together are what turn a colour flat and leave a smell nobody can trace to anything in particular. Because both have travelled well below the surface, suction never gets near them. Immersion does, and the rug is then held in the drying room until the foundation is dry.
What the first proper wash actually looks like
People are often braced for disappointment on a rug this old, so it is worth setting out what usually happens. The rinse water tells the story first, and it is not a pleasant sight. Then the colour comes back, and it comes back further than most owners expect, because what they had been reading as faded was a layer of packed soil sitting over the top of dye that was never damaged. The pile lifts once the weight is out of it. What will not change is genuine wear: where feet have walked the same path for twenty years the fibre is shorter there, and no wash puts that back. We say which one you are looking at before any money changes hands, because the honest version is the only one worth giving. Most of the time it is the soil.

A week in the life of a Leichhardt rug
Leichhardt sits on the scheduled Ipswich loop. Collection and return are covered on that day, and your window comes back once the loop is filled in.
An explorer's name, a golf club of 1897 and two schools in a decade
A suburb that was built for families from the start.
Ludwig Leichhardt is reputed to have camped in this district.
Leichhardt did his work on foot, methodically, mile after mile. Rug washing rewards the same temperament: no shortcuts, every stage done properly, from the first honest assessment to the last of the drying.
Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Leichhardt, the Prussian-born explorer and naturalist, is reputed to have camped in this district on his travels through the Moreton Bay country. The park by the river carried his name from 1930 and the suburb followed in the mid-1950s, taking the explorer's name as its own while the new streets went in. Sources differ on the exact year, so the mid-1950s is as far as the record honestly goes. The name marks one of the great overland journeys in Australian exploration.
The Ipswich Golf Club was formed at a public meeting in 1897.
Greenkeepers and rug washers work from the same truth: turf and wool both reward patient, regular attention rather than the occasional heroic effort. Our version is a full hand wash at Yatala.
The Ipswich Golf Club was formed at a public meeting on 7 September 1897, which makes it one of Queensland's older golf clubs, and in 1946 it bought the vacant land beside the Bremer where its course still runs. The 54 hectares of fairway in the south-western corner give this suburb a green edge that a lot of Ipswich would happily take, and generations of local golfers have walked it.
Leichhardt State School opened on 1 August 1956.
A suburb that built two schools in its first decade was built for families, and family homes are where a rug earns its keep. When yours needs more than the vacuum, one call puts it on the Ipswich day.
Leichhardt State School opened on 1 August 1956, in the same era the suburb took its name, and it has taught the district's children ever since, with around 346 pupils enrolled in recent years. Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary followed on 23 January 1967, beside the southern boundary of the golf course, giving the suburb two schools inside a decade of its naming.

Leichhardt questions, answered without the pitch
What does rug cleaning in Leichhardt cost?
It comes down to the rug: how big it is, what it is made of, how it was built and what condition it turns up in. Those cannot be judged over the phone, so nothing is quoted that way. The rug is read on our floor, one figure goes back to you, and you decide from there. Collection and return are included on the scheduled day.
Our rug has only ever been vacuumed. Is it too late for a wash?
Almost certainly not, and rugs in exactly that position are the ones that improve most. Vacuuming lifts what is sitting on the surface and leaves everything that has worked its way down toward the backing, which is where most of the weight and all of the dullness lives. A first proper wash on a twenty-year-old rug is usually the biggest change we show anybody.
How long is the rug away for?
Around a week door to door. If a rug needs more time in the drying room, that gets flagged when it is inspected rather than afterwards. We would rather hold something an extra day than hand back a piece with moisture still in the backing. When a week is too long, a 48 hour express service can be arranged at additional cost.
The dog urinated on the living room rug. Will that ever fully go?
In most cases it goes completely. Urine passes through the pile and dries into the backing, so a supermarket spray treats the layer above it and the smell returns the first sticky week. A full wash reaches the right layer, enzymes clear what is left in the yarn, and the drying room takes the moisture out so nothing returns with the warm weather.
Do you collect from One Mile, Churchill and West Ipswich as well?
Yes. One Mile, Churchill, West Ipswich, Coalfalls and Sadliers Crossing are all on the Ipswich loop, along with Brassall and Raceview. The loop runs as a single day, so a booking two streets away usually shares your visit. Every rug after the first has $20 off it.
Do we need to be home when the driver comes?
Somebody needs to hand the rug over, because it is rolled at the door rather than left out on a verge where weather and traffic can get at it. If the household works during the day, say so when you book and the collection can be set for a time somebody is there. The same applies to the delivery a week later.
