North Ipswich covers 4.2 square kilometres directly across the Bremer River from central Ipswich, 41.5 kilometres south-west of Brisbane, in the City of Ipswich. The Queensland Woollen Manufacturing Company opened its mill beside the Bremer on 16 October 1877, recorded as the first woollen mill in Queensland. For nearly a century the works scoured, spun and wove local wool into cloth and blankets, including blankets and uniform fabric for the armed forces through both world wars, before closing in 1971. The surviving mill buildings at 42 The Terrace joined the Queensland Heritage Register on 19 September 2008, a rare intact record of the state's textile beginnings.
Sport has been played on the North Ipswich Reserve since 1870.
