There is no township here, no shopping strip and no through traffic to speak of. Housing is genuine range and valley acreage, a small number of rural-residential and farming blocks with extensive state forest reserve wrapped around them, and the character is the timber floor and wood heater pattern the whole Blackall Range runs on. A creek, a hall from 1913, and a population stated straight
A small valley community described exactly as small as it is.
Obi Obi Creek runs through the locality from east to west and forms part of its southern boundary, and Wayne's Lookout, on Obi Obi Road, opens onto a wide view across the Obi Obi Valley itself.
A valley shaped this directly by one creek, with a viewpoint built to take it in, is the sort of real geography worth knowing before planning a pickup route up the range.
Further along its course the same creek is impounded to create a lake, but that reservoir and its story belong to the localities that sit against it and are told on their own pages. The stretch that runs undammed through Obi Obi is this valley's own to describe, and the lookout exists specifically to show it off.
Obi Obi Public Hall opened in October 1913 on land donated for the purpose, with the community itself providing the building materials, and a stage was added at the rear in the early 1930s.
A building the community put up itself and has kept standing for over a century is the sort of long local memory we take seriously before touching a rug from a house nearby.
More than a century later it is still the district's community space. Obi Obi State School, by contrast, operated from 1901 to 1959, a run of nearly sixty years before the district's population thinned, and it did not come back. The hall did, and it kept going.

Do you really come this far up the valley?
Yes, on the scheduled inland loop day. The distance is ours to deal with and it does not change what you are quoted. Tell us at booking about the gate, the driveway condition or anyone the driver should look out for, and it gets noted against the pickup.
How is the price for an Obi Obi rug decided?
From the rug, and nothing at all about the address. How it is made, how big it is and what state it turns up in are what set the figure, and the whole trip is already covered by it. Inspection settles the number and it does not shift. If a piece is not worth doing, you are told rather than invoiced.
The rug is old and has been in the same room for thirty years. Any point?
