An honest quote for range-edge acreage rugs
The rug decides the number, not the address. Size, fibre and condition are read at inspection, the figure is set there, and it is the same figure on the invoice with both of the driver's climbs already inside it.

Rug cleaning Dulong, on Nambour's own range edge
Where the coastal plain stops being flat
Dulong occupies 11.2 square kilometres on the eastern face of the range, nine kilometres west of Nambour. Its neighbours read like a list of the escarpment itself: Mapleton and Flaxton above, Kureelpa and Hunchy alongside, and Perwillowen, Towen Mountain and West Woombye on the fall toward town. The population was 564 at the 2016 census and 688 at the 2021 census, a 22 percent rise, which is real growth for a small range locality that spent decades staying still. At roughly 61 people per square kilometre it remains acreage country. What that position buys residents is a view, and what it costs them is a slower dry on everything, which is where we come in. The growth has mostly arrived as houses on existing blocks rather than new streets, so the roads are the same roads and the driveways are the same driveways, only busier.
Nine kilometres from Nambour and a different climate. Any rug plan that ignores that is going to disappoint somebody up here.
A name for mud, and a school that opened twice
The name is believed to come from an Aboriginal word for mud or wet clay, which is an unusually honest thing for a locality to be called and an accurate one for the ground on this face of the range. The school followed in July 1895, became a state school in 1909, closed in 1929, reopened in 1930 and closed for good in 1967. Two separate stretches, each of more than three decades, with the doors shut in between, is the record of a genuinely small community rather than a growing town. Dulong Lookout is the other fixed point locals name, and the crime novelist Estelle Thompson lived here, which for a locality this size counts as a landmark of its own. Neither the lookout nor the writer is on the way to anywhere, which is a fair summary of the place: people are here because they chose the position, not because a road brought them through it.
Cloud that stays after the town below has cleared
The difference between Dulong and Nambour is only nine kilometres on the map and considerably more than that in the air. Cloud banks up against the escarpment and sits, mornings run cooler, and everything on the ground dries more slowly as a result. Timber floors here take on damp the same way they do further up at Montville and Mapleton. For a rug that means moisture held at the base of the pile for long stretches, which flattens wool and gives odour and growth the conditions they need. One immersion bath strips soil and held damp from the pile at once. After that, drying happens flat and under our control at Yatala, instead of hopefully, on a verandah, in the air that caused the trouble.

A service-area listing means the van comes up the range to you, and there is no public counter anywhere on the Coast. All washing is done at Yatala.
What happens after the van heads back down
The climb and the distance are both ours. Dulong is collected on the range-edge day with Kureelpa and Burnside, and the collection window is confirmed as soon as that day is scheduled.
A shared lookout, a name meaning mud, and a locality growing again
Three sourced facts from this stretch of the escarpment.
Dulong Lookout sits directly on the boundary between Kureelpa and Burnside, looking east over Burnside, Nambour and out to the Coral Sea.
A view three localities share is a fair picture of how this stretch works, and our own run treats the escarpment as one connected climb rather than a set of separate stops.
Its position on the shared boundary of three localities, Dulong itself plus Kureelpa and Burnside, makes it a genuine local landmark rather than any one suburb's attraction. It is the view locals send visitors to, and standing there is the clearest measure of how far up the escarpment this ground actually sits, with the old sugar town laid out below and the sea beyond it.
The name is believed to be an Aboriginal word for mud or wet clay, and the local school opened in 1895, closed in 1929, reopened in 1930 and closed for good in 1967.
Getting a small fact like a name's meaning right rather than smoothing it into something prettier is the same standard of honest assessment we apply to a rug.
A name describing the ground itself is an honest one for a locality that has always depended on that ground, and the school's broken record says the rest. Two stretches of more than thirty years each, separated by a closure, is the pattern of a community that kept going without ever reaching the size that would have made the school secure.
The population rose from 564 to 688 people between the 2016 and 2021 census, a 22 percent increase, and the crime novelist Estelle Thompson lived in the locality.
A locality this small gets the same full immersion wash and the same honest assessment as anywhere larger on the run. The street being short changes nothing about the work.
After a long run as one of the quieter corners of the range, Dulong has picked up real growth in the last five years without losing its acreage character. It is still small enough that a single lookout and a single writer are among the things it is best known for, and that is not a criticism, it is an accurate description of a place with 688 residents.

Dulong questions, answered plainly
Do you come all the way up the range for one rug?
Yes. Dulong is on the range-edge day we already drive with Kureelpa and Burnside, so the climb is part of the run rather than an extra. Pickup and delivery stay included, the van comes to the door, and your window is set once that day is scheduled.
Everything up here dries slowly. Will the rug come back damp?
No, and that is deliberate. Rugs are dried right through in a controlled room at Yatala before they are loaded, not part-dried and finished at your place. Returning a rug damp into range air would put you straight back where you started, which is why the drying stage is not shortened for anybody.
There is wood ash and soot worked into the rug in front of the fire. Is that removable?
Usually a good deal of it. Ash is fine and it settles deep, which is why vacuuming barely touches it, but a full immersion bath releases it from the base of the pile and the rinse carries it out. Any scorch damage is a different matter and gets described honestly at the assessment rather than washed at hopefully.
The dog urinated on the wool rug and the smell returns every damp week. Why?
Because damp is reviving residue that is still there. Urine dries into the foundation beneath the pile, out of reach of anything applied on top, and cool wet air here brings it back to life. Washing the rug right through removes that layer, an enzyme stage deals with the source, and controlled drying stops the cycle restarting.
Do you also collect from Kureelpa, Mapleton and Burnside?
Yes, and from Flaxton, Hunchy and Highworth on the same climb. Sending several rugs together on the one day makes obvious sense up here given the drive, and each rug after the first is $20 off.
How long will it be away, and is there a faster option?
Seven days is the normal turnaround. When a date genuinely will not move there is a 48 hour express option at additional cost. In both cases the drying is done properly first, because that is the step that decides whether the rug behaves once it is back on a range floor.
