One figure for the whole journey
Teneriffe buys carefully, and the quote respects that. The driver checks fibre, construction and condition when collecting, confirms a firm price, and flags anything, from viscose content to old moth damage, that should change your decision before the rug leaves the building.

Rug Washing Teneriffe for Converted Buildings
Converted brick, chosen rugs
Teneriffe holds the riverfront corner of the inner-north peninsula, three kilometres from the CBD, rising from the working wharves to the residential hill behind. For most of the twentieth century this was Brisbane's wool and shipping quarter, and instead of clearing the industrial brick the suburb converted it, which is why so much of Teneriffe now lives in warehouse apartments with thick walls, tall windows and polished concrete or hardwood underfoot. The rugs are serious purchases doing real work: large wool pieces, designer flatweaves and the occasional inherited Persian, none of which can be washed or dried anywhere on site.
Ground-floor and south-facing apartments never give a rug direct sun, so damp and fine city grime settle into the pile with no warning at all.
Masonry holds the damp
The riverfront takes the full brunt of summer humidity, and heavy masonry holds that damp long after the weather moves on. Immersion washing at our Yatala facility strips both out, and the drying rooms finish the job an apartment cannot start.
Big rugs are our normal work
Teneriffe sends us the widest rugs on the peninsula run: broad wool pieces cut for open-plan rooms, designer flatweaves, the occasional silk that needs a slower path. Big rugs defeat home methods on drying alone, because dense pile holds water at its base long after the surface feels dry. Our drying rooms finish every wash before the return trip, which is why a rug can come back into a sealed building without bringing trouble with it. The truck covers Teneriffe, New Farm, Newstead and the Valley on one weekly day.

Where your rug is washed
Three stories the riverfront keeps
A wartime submarine base, the hill that named the suburb and a 170-year-old crossing.
In the Second World War these wharves hosted Australia's largest submarine base.
The wharves mattered because boats came back from hard service and left ready for more. That is precisely our trade: a rug arrives tired from years of traffic, gets hand washed and properly dried at Yatala, and goes back to work.
From April 1942, when the tender USS Griffin arrived with eleven S-class boats, the wharves at Teneriffe became the largest submarine base in Australia, with around 800 American personnel and roughly seventy US submarines using the riverfront for maintenance and repair between patrols. In the last months of 1942 as many submarines were operating out of Brisbane as out of Pearl Harbor. The Submariners' Walk heritage trail now tells the story where it happened.
The hill that named the suburb, bought and christened by James Gibbon in 1854.
Gibbon bought carefully and the name has lasted 170 years. A good rug rewards the same instinct, provided it is washed properly along the way. That second part is our job.
In 1854 the speculator James Gibbon, known as Street Corner Jimmy for his habit of buying corner blocks, purchased land between Newstead and New Farm and named it Teneriffe after the Canary Islands peak. He built Teneriffe House on the hilltop in 1865 for 1,715 pounds, and by 1930 the orchard portion of his estate had passed to the council, surviving today as Teneriffe Park, the quiet green heart of the hill streets.
The CityCat stop keeping a river crossing that began with rowing boats around 1850.
Teneriffe solves its logistics by water; we solve ours by van. Roll the rug, book the pickup, and the driver takes it from the door on the weekly peninsula run.
A ferry has linked this bank to Bulimba since about 1850, starting as a rowed crossing for workers and farmers. The current terminal opened in January 2012 beside the old wharf, with berths for two CityCats and a cross-river service still running to Bulimba, which makes it one of the longest-serving crossing points on the river.

Teneriffe asks, in order
Who arranges the lift booking, us or you?
Either works. Tell us the building's requirements when you book and the driver plans around them, or arrange the slot yourself and we simply arrive inside it. Rugs travel rolled, so the lift trip is quick.
Does a rug on polished concrete need washing more often?
Often yes, because hard floors funnel all the foot traffic onto the one soft surface. The honest interval depends on use: we assess the rug when we see it and tell you when it genuinely next needs us, not a date invented for repeat business.
The rug cost five figures. What happens to it at your end?
It is logged and photographed at intake, then handled by the same people who have washed rugs at Yatala for 29 years: dusted, dye-tested, immersion washed by hand, rinsed, dried in controlled rooms and inspected before return. The free re-wash guarantee runs from delivery.
You already collect from New Farm. Are we on that truck?
Yes. Teneriffe, New Farm, Newstead and the Valley share the peninsula day. Book by form, your window is confirmed when the run is scheduled, and multiple rugs on one booking each earn the $20 discount after the first.
Will the rug come back damp in the middle?
No. Thick pile holds water longest at the base, which is why every rug finishes in drying rooms with managed airflow and gets its core checked before release. Damp rugs breed must in sealed apartments, so nothing leaves Yatala until it is dry through.
The dog is small but the rug smells of urine anyway. Can a warehouse apartment rug recover?
It can. Sealed buildings recirculate the smell, which makes a small problem read like a big one, and the fix is removing the source. The rug is immersed at Yatala, the urine residue dissolves and rinses out of the base, and the drying rooms finish it so nothing reactivates back home.
