One rolled rug, zero fuss
A King Street apartment usually holds one serious rug, chosen carefully for a hard-floored room. When it needs washing, the logistics should not be your problem. Our driver coordinates with you or the building manager, carries the piece rolled through the lobby, and brings it back the same way once Yatala has finished with it.

I had tried spot cleaning the area rug and made one mark stand out even more. Premier evened it out and the rug looks much easier to live with.

Rug Washing Bowen Hills, Old and New
Towers, conversions and a few survivors
Bowen Hills is barely three kilometres from the CBD and carries an outsized public life: the state's showgrounds, the 1891 exhibition hall, and the rail junctions half the northside passes through daily. Its homes are mostly new, apartment towers around King Street and warehouse conversions toward Newstead, with a thin scatter of Victorian survivors up on Jordan Terrace. Apartment rugs are chosen pieces, one good wool or designer weave anchoring a hard-floored living room, and they travel easily: a single rolled rug in a lift is among the simplest pickups on our books.
The catch with tower living is what the air does indoors.
What sealed buildings do to wool
Sealed buildings cycle between chilled dry air and humid intake, the rug never sees direct sun, and wool pile quietly banks moisture and odour for months. The reset is full immersion at Yatala: dyes tested, the rug hand washed and rinsed, then dried in a controlled room until the foundation itself is dry. No balcony or airing cupboard can finish the job that way, which is why the inner north sends its rugs south to us.
The Ekka standard, applied to washing
This suburb has hosted the Ekka since 1876, when the first show pulled seventeen thousand people from a town of barely twenty thousand. Queensland's biggest celebration of doing things properly happens here every August, from prize cattle to woodchop, and rug washing is our entry in the same tradition: hand work, done the slow correct way, for 29 years. The showrooms and offices around the precinct use us on the same logic, one wash floor for the fit-out's pieces and the boardroom runner alike.

What Bowen Hills keeps on show
The Ekka's home ground, the old museum and the iron-lace villa, all within a short walk.
Home of the Ekka since 1876, when 17,000 people turned up from a town of 20,000.
The Ekka is Queensland's annual celebration of work done properly, from prize cattle to woodchop. Hand washing rugs at Yatala is our entry in that tradition, judged by owners for 29 years.
The National Agricultural and Industrial Association formed in 1875 and staged its first exhibition at Bowen Park in August 1876, drawing around 17,000 visitors when Brisbane held barely 20,600 residents. King George V granted the Royal prefix in 1921, troops occupied the grounds through the Second World War, and the August Ekka still stops the city. The surrounding 22 hectares are mid-regeneration, with the King Street precinct built through their western edge.
The 1891 red-brick exhibition hall on Gregory Terrace, the museum's home for 87 years.
A city that kept its 1891 museum hall understands the case for preservation over replacement. We make the same case for every good rug that crosses our wash floor.
Built in 1891 from 1.3 million red bricks to George Henry Male Addison's Federation Romanesque design, the Exhibition Building replaced a timber hall lost to fire in 1888. The Queensland Museum moved in from William Street in 1900 and stayed until 1987, and generations of Queenslanders remember its whale skeleton and dinosaurs. It still stands over Bowen Bridge Road, one of Brisbane's finest Victorian survivors.
The 1886 iron-lace villa on Jordan Terrace, a house museum since 1967.
Miegunyah preserves the exact domestic world our oldest rugs come from. Estate pieces from around the inner north get the museum-grade version of care: honest assessment first, then a careful hand wash.
Miegunyah was built in 1886 for William Herbert Perry and his bride Leila, in the most opulent decade of Brisbane's timber tradition: iron-lace balustrades, filigree columns and friezes. The Queensland Women's Historical Association bought it in 1967, restored it, and has run it as a museum of domestic life ever since. During the war it served as an officers' club and a safe house for Z Special Unit.

Inner-city suburbs on the same runs
The truck's inner-north days take in these neighbours of Bowen Hills.
Bowen Hills, asked and answered
How does pickup work in an apartment building?
Simply. You or the building manager tells us the access rules, the driver meets whoever holds the keys, and the rug travels rolled through the lobby. Redelivery follows the same steps in reverse.
Can you look after the rugs in our office or showroom?
Yes. Commercial floor pieces around the showgrounds and King Street are a regular part of the run, washed on a schedule or as needed, with the IICRC certification many facility files ask for.
What does a Bowen Hills rug cost to clean?
Every rug is priced on its size, fibre and condition at inspection, and the figure does not move afterwards. Pickup and redelivery are free, and a $20 discount applies to each rug beyond the first.
Which other suburbs does this run cover?
Fortitude Valley, Newstead, Herston and New Farm ride the same inner-city legs, with the wider inner north covered across the week. A building with several rugs from different apartments can send them together.
How fast does the rug come back, and what stands behind the work?
Seven days standard, or the 48-hour express when paying extra makes sense. The re-wash guarantee backs everything: tell us inside 48 hours of redelivery if something is not right and the wash is done again free.
An apartment dog had accidents on the rug. Fixable?
Fixable, and common. In a sealed apartment the smell concentrates because urine residue in the rug's base keeps reactivating with the air conditioning cycle, and no spray reaches that deep. The immersion wash removes the source entirely. Where dye damage has already occurred, the inspection says so before you commit.
