Taigum Square opened in 1982, only seven years after Taigum became an official suburb name, and its 2001 expansion confirmed the corner of Church and Beams Roads as the local centre. The local school opened on 29 January 1957 as Zillmere North State School, decades before Taigum existed on any map. When the suburb's identity settled, the school followed, becoming Taigum State School in 1993. The renaming is the suburb's growth story in miniature: farmland flats that borrowed a neighbour's name until they had earned their own.

Brisbane's Greek community founded the St Paraskevi parish here on 23 April 1986, laid the cornerstone on 29 November 1987, and celebrated the finished church's opening on 10 December 1995.
