Boondall filled in waves. Timber homes went up near the stations in the railway years, weatherboards followed after the war, and the brick low-sets of the 1970s and 1980s completed most of the street grid, with townhouses arriving later along the line. The suburb spent its first decades under other names, Cabbage Tree Creek for the waterway that still crosses it, then College Hill for the boarding school on the rise, before the map settled on Boondall in 1923. The rugs here match the houses: hard-working wool and synthetic pieces in lounge and rumpus rooms, and the occasional good Persian in the older homes near the college. Brisbane City Council built the Entertainment Centre as part of its bicentenary sports complex, and the first event went ahead in February 1986. It has been the state's major indoor venue ever since, seating around 11,000 for sport and more for concerts, and nearly every big international act to tour Brisbane across four decades has played here. The Christian Brothers opened St Joseph's Nudgee College in 1891 to take the boarders Gregory Terrace could no longer house, which made it the first purpose-built boarding college in Queensland. The name says Nudgee, but the college and its playing fields sit inside Boondall, a boundary detail locals stopped arguing about generations ago. The school once dominated the district so completely that the area was simply called College Hill, and rural Queensland has been sending its children here for over 130 years.

The names moved on and the creek damp stayed put. Low suburbs need rugs washed and dried properly, and that exact work has kept our Yatala facility busy for 29 years.
The district first went by Cabbage Tree Creek, after the waterway bridged here in the 1860s. The railway arrived in 1882, the college in 1891, and the streets near the station picked up the name College Hill. In 1923 the name settled as Boondall, from an Aboriginal word believed to mean crooked creek, though some hold it refers to the bulb of the cunjevoi lily, a traditional food of the Turrbal people whose country this is. Three names in sixty years for one bend of the same water.

Why does my rug smell musty when nothing has been spilt on it?
Because low bayside air feeds moisture into the pile all year, and trapped damp grows a smell of its own. A full immersion wash removes what the damp has fed, and complete drying at Yatala keeps the smell from coming back.
How does pickup fit around school and sport hours?

Is the good Persian safe in the same booking as the family rugs?
Yes, because each rug is assessed and washed on its own terms. A hand-knotted Persian gets dye testing and gentler handling than a machine-made synthetic, and the $20 discount still applies to every rug after the first.
What if the smell survives the wash?
Mention it within 48 hours of the rug reaching home and we wash it again, no charge. A musty smell that outlives a wash usually means a rug was never dried through, which is why drying to the core is part of our standard process rather than an extra.
