A school that has run since 1866 understands the long game, and so do we. Twenty-nine years of hand washing at Yatala says the careful way lasts because it works.
The farming families of the Bald Hills, Pine River and Sandgate districts petitioned for a school and got one: Bald Hills State School began admitting students on 30 April 1866, with the new school house officially opened that September. That makes it the fourth-oldest state primary school in Queensland, older than most of Brisbane itself, and it has served the suburb continuously for more than 150 years while everything around it changed from farmland to family streets.

In 1993 Brisbane City Council bought land that had been marked out for housing and turned it into the Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Reserve instead, a broad sweep of mangroves, salt marsh and river flats framed by the South Pine River, the Gympie Arterial and the Gateway Motorway. The Deepwater Bend entrance off Wyampa Road is the local fishing and picnic spot, with pontoons on the Pine River and walking tracks through country that looks much as it did before the suburb arrived.

Does being the last suburb north change the price?

Our rug smells damp by the end of summer. Is that fixable?
