When the Pick 'n Pay Hypermarket opened on Albany Creek Road on 7 November 1984, a crowd of 25,000 spent a million dollars on day one in Australia's first true hypermarket: 25,500 square metres, 78 checkouts and parking for 1,800 cars, built as a joint venture with the South African retailer. Rebuilt around several times since, it added a food court in 1995 and Coles, Aldi and Kmart across 2012 and 2013, and it remains the suburb's retail heart.

A timber classroom from 1890 is still standing because people maintained it on purpose, decade after decade. Wool rugs reward exactly the same habit: washed properly every year or two, they simply keep going.
Local farming families raised the money for the Little Cabbage Tree school, opened in 1890, and its timber and tin A Block still stands as the oldest school building in Brisbane's outer northern suburbs. In September 1897 the school committee followed the post office in adopting the name Aspley, recalling John Morris's 1860s Aspley Orangery and Vineyard, itself named for Aspley Hall in Nottinghamshire. The school has carried the name ever since.
The northside's Australian rules club, growing juniors into seniors since 1964.

Founded in 1964 as a junior club for Aspley and its surrounding districts, the Hornets built a pathway into senior football and then dominated it, winning six consecutive premierships between 1985 and 1990 before stepping up to the NEAFL in 2011 and the VFL from 2021. Home is Graham Road Oval, which technically sits just over the Carseldine line, a boundary detail no Hornets family has ever cared about, with the licensed club alongside.
