Rush Creek is rural Dayboro-valley country, 14 square kilometres and just 152 residents counted in 2021, which makes it one of the quietest localities we service anywhere. Dayboro Road crosses it east to west, the North Pine River draws its southern boundary above the lake country, and Forbes Creek names the small neighbourhood in the south-east corner. The homes are farmhouses, acreage builds and horse properties on big blocks, most reached by a gravel drive, and their interiors follow the valley pattern: open living rooms, hard floors, a wood heater working all winter, and large wool rugs doing genuine rural service. Boots, dogs, paddock dust and fireplace ash, season after season. A locality this small could reasonably expect no specialist services at all. Instead it gets the full version of ours, because the valley run already passes the gate.

The valley that moved a cottage to save it
Rush Creek's oldest building survives by living one town up the road. Hay Cottage was built around 1870 by Ernest Goertz, and for a century it was one of the valley's working farmhouses. When the North Pine Dam went in during the early 1970s the farm's land was resumed, and the cottage faced demolition until the district decided otherwise: in 1989 it was relocated to Dayboro, where it stands today as a keepsake of the farming valley it came from. The same long patience runs through the Forbes Creek story, where a one-teacher school opened on 20 August 1880 and taught the creek's farm families for eighty years until 1960, grandparents through grandchildren passing the same small door. A valley that moves a whole cottage rather than lose it understands our core argument perfectly: care for a well-made thing properly and it outlasts everything around it. That is the entire case for washing a good wool rug instead of replacing it.

Mould Rug Cleaning

Forbes Creek Provisional School opened on 20 August 1880 to teach the children of the creek's farm selections, became Forbes Creek State School in 1909, and held on until 1960, a run of eighty years. The school is long gone but Forbes Creek still names Rush Creek's south-eastern neighbourhood, and the district's families measured their generations by it: grandparents, parents and children through the same small school door.
