Some old rugs tell us clearly that a bath would do harm, and we listen to the test results rather than the schedule. It is the rarer road on our floor, taken on evidence, and finished to the very standard the bath itself would deliver. One or two heirlooms come off these verandahs every year, and they get the gentle route without argument.
